Lol when I played this game and got to this part or when it happened to me rather, it was early in the morning (irl) I'd just woken up and decided this is what I wanted to play, and as soon as that happened for the first time I jumped playing this game and just turned it off to get it off the screen. Great game that was.

There were ALOT of moments like this in the game, I'd say the mansion was alot scarier than the historical parts even though there were no real danger... those phone calls...

I thought the historical levels were wayyyy scarier - especially the one that takes place in the cathedral during the war...I literally had to brace myself and psych myself up before I did that level, every time I played the game....but the mansion scared me the first time too because there's that unknown factor; it was too dark and too quiet the whole time, it left you on the edge of your seat expecting an attack at any time...the actual phone calls never scared me though.

@SnotRockets55 honestly its been too long, I just know I was scared throughout the game but I clearly remember what happend in the mansion. Now that you mentioned the cathedral I remember part of it and I think im going to see if I can get ahold of the game once again. (This was my favorite GC game other than a few other select ones) I did say theres alot of scary moments but I tended to never ever have my sanity meter low so I was a wuss =)

It's scary because you shouldn't be expecting it when it happens. It's a cheap scare, admittedly, but masterfully done and well-placed in relation to the rest of the game at that point. If you hadn't spoiled it for yourself ahead of time, the effect would've been much greater.

This video just doesn't do it justice because you know it's coming. When I was playing, it was just my usual gaming OCD taking over, having to check everything, and it caught me completely off guard.

@SemperSmash What really makes it so scary is before interacting with the tub, there is clearly nothing in it. No blood, no corpse, no nothing! Argh, a cheap scare indeed, but effective nonetheless.

@PoisonRainVornado it's not the scariest. all this is, is a cheap "make you jump" moment. most of the scare is in the sudden noise. for me, I was far more creeped out in the parts where you are just walking around alone in the mansion. ironic I know. but that's the creepiest part of the game for me

@nightassassin480 You know, the problem is that for whatever reason this game outputs its video extremely dark, and when you capture it it ends up even darker. The only option is to crank the contrast, and then everything looks grey and washed out. So I left it as is.

This game does tension so well. Its at the part of the game where your sanity is low after reading a couple of chapters. You get statues that follow you as you move (freaky, but not too startling), sudden pounding at the front door (A little startling, but you learn to deal) and then when you think you're safe, NAKED CHICK IN A BATHTUB OF BLOOD.

So, yeah. "Unsettling" is right on the money.
