This occurred over 50 years ago. You can be mad at the politicans that are all dead by now (mostly). Americans can go to Vietnam now and be safe and go as tourists. What happened, happened. Napalm won't hurt a tunnel, and innocent people expecting an extermination often dug a family trench to hide in because they knew mass murder was on the way. A LAWFUL aim point must be on a military target. People's homes & fields are forbidden, unless occupied by a RESISTING military target.

The Pilot may not be able to see everything but his field of visions isnt limited to just forward facing, and the chance that there is a FAC on the ground is pretty good, it could be very possible that this is a CAS missions called in by a unit who took fire from those buildings.
