When the sun shines the light has to go through the particles in the air. Blue/violet having the highest charged protons are easily scattered. So if it takes a wave length 8.5 minutes to go from the Sun to the Earth why would it take 20 minutes from Mars to Earth when they are closer... depending on planets location in their orbits. You do realize that there's no way that they could be communicating in real-time with the lander/craft, etc. If I recall correctly, at Mars' closest to Earth, round-trip signals at the speed of light would take 16-20 minutes. Or is that whole speed of light thing a lie too?

@Vasilouxxx Who the hell told you this? If the Sun burns out, we have roughly 8.5 minutes until the final light ray reaches Earth. So if it takes a wave length 8.5 minutes to go from the Sun to the Earth why would it take 20 minutes from Mars to Earth when they are closer... depending on planets location in their orbits. But I would imagine they would gone for the shortest/closest approach distance.
