  • what did you say the name of the arm is that the monitor is hanging off of? It seems like your saying "la-magic arm". cant really hear you clearly. thanks

  • 800x600. my screen on GH2 has a higher resolution. maybe i will invest in this when im old and need glasses.

  • I'm pleased with my 668 although it easily works loose on my cam. I've had to tape it to my cams hotshoe to stop it from wiggling and sliding out of the hotshoe slot. That said, I much prefer it to my cameras stock viewer.

  • I ordered the Lilliput 668 for my t2i only cons are the terrible swivel shoe mount they included, it doesn't hold and falls over. And sometimes HDMI cable problems

  • Great review, thanks a lot :-)

  • 2:23 You heard him, SUBSCRIBE!!!!!

  • I wouldn't recommend this monitor to anyone with a DSLR that already has a screen. I got it for my 60D just the other day and returned it after a few hours of tests. The resolution is pretty low but what really gets it is the image sharpness, terrible. Almost impossible to get a good focus with this monitor. And the scaling. The image doesn't fill the whole screen when in standby and then when recording it stretches and shrinks it even further, making it almost unusable.

  • does the camera have hdmi? or how it is connected

  • I think that resolution is incorrectly stated here and in other places online.

Lilliput says the resolution is 800 X 480.

New Lilliput 7" 665GL has resolution of 1024 X 600 but no good video reviews yet.

  • mentions resolution how many times lol

  • Great video! For some reason, the camera switches to the camera monitor when I press record. Do you know why that might be? Thanks!

  • Love the content! Keep up the good work.

Have you seen the Pro aim MB-600 mattebox kit on eBay? I just got one and it looks the bomb, despite the fact I have no intention of using it for purpose - it impresses the hell of of my clients! Good luck. Ian

  • What was the name of the cable connected from the camera to the monitor???

  • What cable was the name of the cable connected from the camera to the monitor???

  • 800 by 600 ? The Iphone 4 has a bigger resolution than that monitor lol.

  • @bigdima3 Now if only you could use the iphone 4 as a monitor we'd be set.

  • @onelonedork You mock but that's an awesome idea! does the monitor have a histogram feature?

  • @josephrawlins There is actually a programmer working on an android app that gives you full control and monitoring of your camera through your phones display. It's out in beta right now, and doesn't work in video mode yet, but live view works fine. You can find it under DSLR controller in the android app store.

The I phone doesn't support USB host control, so you probably wont see support for it any time soon. I wrote about it 3 months ago over at the DSLRFILMNOOB site.

  • @onelonedork I think theres an app for that :D

  • @bigdima3 - There are bigger, better, open source, free of contract and cheaper phones than iPhone 4. Apple is too expensive.

  • @xyster7 That's a good point, but my argument is: quality things don't come cheap.

  • @bigdima3 well thats without the hdmi

  • I bought the same monitor and a couple batteries per your suggestion for my 7D. You the man! One questions though... I haven't used it for a few months and now when I plug in via HDMI it is showing 16:9 but not filling the screen. I have the big white bars like I do on my 7D screen. I know I ran into this before and fixed it but can't remember how. Any ideas???? Thanks!

  • @advres I think the setting you are looking for is in the miscellaneous section of the monitor menu.

  • I have no idea what battery on ebay seller chcctvcam to buy. Can you please help? I would like to have the same setup that you have in this video, THANK YOU!

  • @comixdeadalways The battery is the 6800mAh lithium Ion battery.

  • If i dont got that battery, the only way i could use it is if i have it pluged to an outlet in a house?

  • Now can i connect this to a crane?

  • @urdone4 yes.

  • Once you connect this, will the display in the 7D screen go off?

  • @avertedguy yes.

  • Hi there, thanks for your great video, I am triing to find the best deal on ebay but what is the best Lilliput Monitor to buy now ?

    There are lots of options > 869GL (contrast = 1:300) , 669GL (contrast = 1:500), 669GH (?) etc...

What is the best actual choice ? Thanks !

  • This Lilliput 869GL-80NP/C/T 8" TouchScreen ?

    TouchScreen good ?????

    ThankS

  • @zurafilm21 Not the touch screen. Just the normal screen. The touch screen would probably work as well, but I believe it costs more. I've never tried the touch screen version so, if that is what you want to use, let me know how it turns out.

  • @onelonedork Thank YOU

  • I felt the obligation to make the following fact public. I own the 7 inch version of the Lilliput monitor. I was shooting a music video on set today and I was on a fully extended tripod on top of a table shooting downward. the hot shoe mount gave out and my Lilliput monitor fell about 9 ft straight to the floor. just as I was about to drop in tears, my friend picked it up, plugged it back in and it was like nothing happened...thank you Lilliput

  • @sk8ersick666 Mine has stood up to a number of drops and bumps as well. For the the price, it's a great monitor!

  • Maybe one day, in a perfect world, lilliput monitors will have peaking and still be affordable.

  • Is there cheaper alternative for the lilliput?

im shooting on D90 ...with super low budget if 100 or less would be amazing

  • @ForeverFire check out the Haier 7 inch monitor, I have a video on it. Price $44.

  • which model monitor are you using

  • @DAVIRGO81 Lilliput 8" 869gl hdmi monitor.

  • are there any smaller monitors, slimmer led-lit, ~2.5-3" maybe, that i can use with a cam with a hotshoe, like sony CLM-V55 only smaller?

  • @GarbageState Yes I have a video on it. The monitor is only $28. Link to the info is in the info bar.

  • @onelonedork i don't see the link or any info about smaller lcd

  • Hi there! i really dig your reviews and tips! congrats!

one question about the lilliput monitor"

recently i bought a 8" lilliput and maybe you could recommend a sun hood for it

what i found is some hard pvc ones. do you know any kind of sun hood that is foldable or maybe not that hard? cause i need to fold it and put inside my hdslr backpack.

    tks a lot

    cheers

  • @fredmuller75 I use Velcro and soft 1/4 inch foam board from the hobby store. Seems to work just fine.

  • I bought 3 8 inch Newey monitors I have a Canon 7D and 2 HVX's.I got them for under $160 each direct from the company.Just have to get the Little to big HDMI cable for the 7D.The monitor looks great and I can easily pull focus with the HVX's.

Thanks for your review and other uploads. It's the reason I bypassed named brands

and got the monitors and saved. So thanks as I wasn't aware of cheaper brands.

  • @reticulan5 Glad it worked out for you.

  • Awesome review man. Subscribed!

But just a tip, maybe use your hands a bit more when you are explaining.

  • @andriante Started doing that as you might have noticed. Thanks for the sub!

  • Does this monitor have a headphone jack? I'd really need this.

  • @BenHughesStudios This one does not.

  • We have been using a lilliput monitor for awhile now, and although its a good monitor to help see what you are shooting, the quality is nothing to get excited about.

It is hard to pull focus on this monitor, must use the built in zoom functions on the 7d.

You must also double check your exposure on the 7d lcd, as the lilliput monitor always seems to be way to bright and has a low contrast ratio, even after adjusting the settings.

  • @F5SHOW I haven't had any problems pulling focus with this monitor. I wouldn't trust the monitor or the camera screen for exposure. Always check meter readings.

  • what did you use to hold the monitor ?

  • @nathannguyen59 I've got a video on it. Check it out.

  • What is a link for the lilliput monitor?

  • I meant 8 AA which will be 12 v.

  • hey man, thanks for your review/// do you recommend to use that battery pack or 2AA? i see on e-bay the li-on ones that has no memory effect.. which one do you recommend? thanks a lot by the way!

  • @SALVATOR11 I use the battery pack, and tend to get between 6 and 9 hours per charge. I have no idea how long AA batteries would last but 5 sets of 8 AA batteries would set you back the price of the rechargeable pack.

  • @onelonedork nice reviews man, keep it up. by the way Is that battery pack can power up a AC/DC power monitor?, because I've seen a much cheaper monitor (Haier HLT71) do you think that battery pack you use will work on this particular monitor? thanks man,

  • @keo0147 yes you could use this battery with that Haier HLT71 it takes 12 volts. The resolution the HLT71 looks like its less then standard deff. So i don't know how well it will work for focusing. Although the canon 7d is the only camera in canon's line that actually puts out HD when recording. So if your using a t2i or 60d it should work fine.

  • @onelonedork thanks man, I'll share you my experience with it, and yeah I'm using and loving t2i. lol

but one more thing though. :D what is the name of that battery? I'm having a hard time finding it on ebay or amazon .

    Happy New Year !

  • @keo0147 DC 12V 6800mAh Super Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery look on ebay.

  • Can you record or take pictures with the 7D directly to the computer? I am getting it as a Christmas present, and I don't have the funds just yet to buy a CF card (as my D3000 uses an SD) but i am certainly anxious to use the 7D. Is that possible?

  • @Baltzy24 Yes you can take pictures directly to a computer, I just tested it out. Use the EOS Utility software on the disk that comes with your camera, then select Camera settings/remote shooting. Each time you use the button on the top right hand side it'll take a picture and load it into Canon Digital Photo pro. Enjoy your new camera!

  • @onelonedork Thanks man!

  • Is it possible to have two monitors hooked up to the one camera?? If so, you should do a video on that as there are none??

  • @BlondieLondon74 all you need is an hdmi spliter, they are $15 to $50 and you can find them online.

  • Omg I feel so dumb I was wondering y the green light never came on lol. Thanks so much

  • @chadae0121 No problem. The batteries take about 8 to 14 hours to charge. Leave them plugged in over night. I've actually never looked to see if the light changes, I normally just plug them in around lunch time and unplug them when i pack up to go on a shoot the next morning.

  • I have this monitor and 2 batteries from the company you listed. I used the batteries once now when I charge them I get the red lights but will not power my monitor

  • @chadae0121 you have to turn the battery switch on when charging, or it wont charge the battery.

  • Very useful to me as was your head-to-head including the sigma 24mm 1.8. I've now bought both :-) You have a great presentation style - keep up the great work!

  • @mixski Thanks, I try to get a new video up at least twice a month, If you have anything you'd like to see, drop me a line I'm always looking for ideas.

  • can you record audio in that canon 7d?

  • @MeTaLcOrE1616 you can but it doesn't have manual audio control.

  • @onelonedork what do you mean manual audio control?

  • @MeTaLcOrE1616 The canon 7d has auto gain control, that moves the volume up and down by its self. Which means when there is not a lot going on in a shot the 7d cranks the volume and creates a horrible noise floor.

  • You tested the HDMI version. Do you think that the USB version would work on the 7D.

  • @alexsijes no.

  • One other question...how long does the 6800mAh battery last when you are using the 8" Lilliput monitor.

  • @virtualnorthamerica All day. I just used it for 6 hours with out turning it off and still haven't need to charge it.

  • What battery are you using for this? I went up to the site you had listed, but I could not find the 6.4 amp hour battery that you mentioned. I did find the DC 12V 6800mAh Super Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery -- is this the right one? Is this 8" as bright as the newer version of the 7 inch monitor they make?

  • @virtualnorthamerica I miss spoke it is a 6.8ah battery 6800mAh is the same thing. I don't know how bright the 7 inch monitor is, though i've never had a problem with my 8 inch.

  • hi thanks does that work with

    video cameras?

    for filming

it looks like a cool monitor

    thanks.

  • @2migell I use it with my HF S100 all the time and it works great.

  • Can't find that battery pack anywhere! Anyone?

  • Hmmm..I wonder why the monitor can play back 16:9 on cropped sensors and only 4:3 on the full frame 5d...

  • @LegendFilmWorks I'm not sure why canon did it but basically the 5d and T2i got to 4:3 when recording video. The 7d and 60d do not I think its a firm ware configuration change that could correct this but I may be wrong.

  • @onelonedork Hmmm.. Well there is a firmware update for the T2i but i'm sure it doesn't cover this problem. I will shoot Trammell Hudson an email and see if he is working on anything with the Magic Lantern firm ware for the T2i.

  • Anyone looking for a battery like mentioned in this video, check this link:

  • is it possible to connect your dslr to a car/headrest monitor to use as a field monitor? mainly for videos. I'm sure you'd need the right cables but is it possible? do you know? lol thanks.

  • @ChristinaMercury This can be done, but a standard def monitor will be a bit harder to use for fine focus.

  • is there anyway u can show how u set up tha moniter?

  • It must be great to live in the US ,to be able to walk into any store and pick up what you want unlike the UK when all you get is a blank look and the ULTIMATE QUESTION " have you looked on the internet"? to me this is neither helpful nor an answer to my question............ no matter what i ask for re Electronics.

  • Very helpful - Thank you ;)

  • Good-----thank's for your help. very well.

  • Thanks man for the review... its a great option to monitoring... I follow your channel =)

  • how much does this setup weigh? Thanks man, I was looking into a Small HD but this is much closer to my price range.

  • dude you rock. Thanks for the review. You have the exact setup I want to get.

Does this monitor by any chance have a flip function? Say if using it with a lens adapter setup you can flip the upside down image coming out, right side up?

And please state the exact model number that you used in the video in your initial description. Also, did you buy online directly from Lilliput? Or from a third party. Please tell us what third party you bought from.

  • @mrmuggs1970 the model in the video is a Lilliput 869GL. I picked it up on ebay used (because i couldn't find any good reviews on it, i didn't want to pay full price). It does have a flip left to right and top to bottom option.

  • Can this monitor work with the Canon 550D/T2i

  • @FencinGrl23 Yes, the only down side is that well recording the T2i switches to a 4:3 aspect ratio which gives you pretty much the same recording view 5d users have to put up with.

  • thank you for the review, i just need to ask one question.....how long does that extra battery you bought last?

  • @darthsamurai As Stated in the video 4 to 5 hours.

  • @onelonedork thanks, I missed that part. The seller who is selling that battery has 2 12V batteries for sale, the 4800mAH and the 6800 mAH. Which did you get?

  • @darthsamurai Also listed in the video.

  • @onelonedork sorry I'm not familiar with the terminologies, I just heard you mention "6.4 amp" but you didn't mention 4800mah or 6800mah in your video (I don't even know what that means)

  • @raginroninreview go with the 6800 mah which also means 6.8 amp hours.

  • @onelonedork ok thanks

  • sorry this may sound noobish, but i'd be able to playback photos that i took and review it on the lilliput screen, right?

  • @xpopxeyex Yep Photo's play back as well.

  • @onelonedork o ok. thanks bud!

  • did you ever use the hotshoe mount for it? and if so, how did it feel holding the camera?

  • @JakeCameraAction I've tried mounting it on a ball head cold shoe adapter and it makes the camera feel awkward and top heave, but its not as big of a problem when you have it on a tripod stand. I'll be posting a video next week on a few of the camera cages I've come up with to solve this problem.

  • Can you post a link to the battery you bought on ebay? I just order a lilliput monitor and would love to purchase some of these batteries. Thanks for the awesome review.

  • Was the battery the 6800mah version? If possible can you post a link to the specific battery you got - I'm looking to get about 5-6 of these batteries for a feature I'm working on with 2 Canon T2i's this summer. Thanks in advance great video!

  • what arms are you using to connect to the canon?

  • @UGOTWAX Thats a manfrotto magic arm holding up the screen.

  • Good job, Man.

  • Very cool tip.
