Now I'm all for artistic expression, but there are some songs that can't be re-interpreted to be about a flashy self-indulgent performance. Adam was just trying to show off his high pitch falsetto. If you think about it, it was kind of disrespectful. Most people who understand this would agree.

But he's sung this a number of times: obviously on Idol, but also at the Zodiac show twice. The first was primarily out of frustration, that gays just aren't widely accepted and the latter was because the gay and lesbian community was in it's own civil rights movement. So both of your points have standing.

Well, all I can say is that when he sang this live on the show, I thought that it was over and he would be the clear winner. Nobody even close to this performance. It was stunning. That's when I learned that American Idol is not a singing competition, but a popularity contest and once again, I will say it. He has more talent than any past, previous, or current "singer" on American Idol and you won't see another like him in the near or distant future. Adam, you did it right. FIVE STARS EASILY.
This, I think, was my favorite performance of his. Better than Mad World, Tracks of my Tears, and all those others, because he really connected with this song. He probably knows all too well what it is to be discriminated for something that isn't his or anyone else's fault. This was spectacular. Adam was a superstar from the day he was born and he will keep shinning forever.

I think Adam reinforces the message somewhat, and though his vocal range is different from Sam's, it's still a great song that was sung by a lot of great singers, Adam being one of them. ^_^

Hm, he sounds decent when it's on studio recording. They used all their fancy equipment to help turn his screeches into something mostly tolerable. It's still a tad over done/over used if you ask me though. I still think Allison deserved 2nd more than Adam, but overall I'm pleased with the way things turned out. Adam does have talent... just not so much in singing or at least he doesn't exactly live up to all the hype he gets. ... in my opinion.

I don't remember them saying it was screaming. Screaming, when used in the context of singing, is never a positive. What Adam does isn't screaming. It's belting at high pitches. It takes tremendous skill to do what he does.

Hm, he sounds decent when it's on studio recording. They used all their fancy equipment to help turn his screeches into something mostly tolerable. It's still a tad over done/over used if you ask me though. I still think Allison deserved 2nd more than Adam, but overall I'm pleased with the way things turned out. Adam does have talent... just not so much in singing or at least he doesn't exactly live up to all the hype he gets. ... in my opinion.

I don't remember them saying it was screaming. Screaming, when used in the context of singing, is never a positive. What Adam does isn't screaming. It's belting at high pitches. It takes tremendous skill to do what he does.
