just wondering - don't wedding proposals need to contain the phrase "I love you" somewhere? Because I think he forgot that part. I am no expert on the subject since I have yet to propose to anyone (I'm only 22 so I still have time). But that was my impression.

there's no dictionary definition. it's how you want it to be. a lot of people don't have to say i love you for the other person to know it.

No, wedding proposals don't "need" to have anything. You could have your girlfriend get eaten by a giant alligator and hide the ring in it's intestines. It's the originality or the mood of it that makes it good.
