More than half the respondents called them "completely trustworthy and fair". They did not demand bribes. The government justice system was heavily criticised for bribery and favouritism and was trusted by only 7% of men and women. Only 2 people opposed reconciliation with the Taliban.

Conquests were something more frequent in the past centuries, when the world was not so densely populated and the borders were still disputable. It's not just the Arabs/Muslims that were imperialist. Someone could tell you that Catholicism and Protenstantism were also spread through invasion & conquest, but something even worse as well: genocides. Just look at the American continent.

But you can't generalize by calling every Muslim nation a nation of fascists, or every Muslim inhuman. I"m Afghan, It's simple why the country has been in peril. The great country was milked for everything it could be worth by the Russians in the 80's.
Poverty and lack of a government lead the country to break into militias for different territories; and like most poor countries military force was present.
The taliban eventually formed to break any division, but because of the poor nature of the country life wasn't generally good, also a lot of corruption was present over greed.

Here's a thought..... the GDP per capita in afghanistan is $800. The estimated cost of the war by end 2010 will be over one trillion dollars. If that budget was equally divided between every afghan citizen they would each receive about $80000 or 100 years income. Spending like this would certainly cast America as a benevolent nation worthy of admiration and would go a long way to promoting stability, poverty alleviation and economic growth! just a thought, plant those seeds!!!
