Everyone person should be encouraged to hear this and so that they may contemplate on how precious....and how fleeting life is, and how much sacrifice has gone before us so that we may all live in peace.
I have seen Ken Burns "The Civil War" in it's entirety.
It is this part, out of 10 hours worth of film, that I remember the best. Sullivan Ballou's beautifully written letter set to Jay Unger's hauntingly beautiful ballad "Ashokan Farewell"....well, let's just say it left an undisturbed impression on me after many years.
I visited Sullivan's grave today in Providence. It was humbling to be in the presence of such an amazing man. HE truly does live on, and represents everything that is right with our country
@etylerwright1 A fair few can write as well today. Proper grammar, vocabulary, and beautiful prose are not necessarily things of the past. Granted, letter writing is a dying art as more and more people move toward strictly online and cellphone usage as means of communication, but there are still those out there who can craft beautiful letters that evoke emotion which could never be replicated in a digital format.
Thank you so much for uploading this video on a video window with the "cc" feature. Now, people who don't speak/understand English can see the narration in their own language. :))
In the process of life, and with the accumulation of its days and years and memories and experiences, and the love given and received, and mistakes made and forgiven, and the miracles witnessed, and the beauty and mystery everywhere, one is readied for whatever comes next- and it all becomes a kind of glory.
Yet what a waste is war, immortal Sullivan Ballou.
...you may have your Billy Shakespeares, and all that followed him in the field of true romanticism. But to me...this is the most romantic, sadist prose ever written...of love..
GOSH ! This was the most difficult video EVER to sit through :(
I could feel my heart getting heavy by the time he gently addressed her "Sarah" @ 1:09 ! assuring her so sweetly, "My Love For You Is DENTLESS" ! which am sure was a true reflection of HER heart's voice for HIM as well ! ! But, my tears could do nothing to stop that lump of INTENSE anguish deep in MY Soul, once he started stating the depth of His love for her @, & from 1:58 ! NO matter how many times I replayed it ! SOULMATES ! ? :(

I could feel my heart getting heavy by the time he gently addressed her "Sarah" @ 1:9 ! assuring her so sweetly, "My love for you is DENTLESS" which am sure was a true reflection of HER heart's voice for HIM as well ! ! ...But, my tears could do nothing to stop that lump of INTENSE anguish deep in MY Soul, once he started stating the depth of His love for her @, & from 1:58 ! "My love for you is DENTLESS"? With a letter as beautifully written as this, I believe he said his love is DEATHLESS.
