  • sabre est la meilleure arme

  • what music from the Matrix Revolutions?btw epic playing with foil

  • @TheChaosEmperorr fluke -absurd

  • I have a question:

does anybody know if in the Olympics fencers are separated by not only foil/epee/sabre but also by whether they use French-type or pistol grips?

  • @thefearlessT No, grips are personal preference.

  • 0:34 41 touches for france? how high did those bouts go??

  • @Dontholdback747 It's a team bout. Team bouts consist of nine five touch bouts; all three of team A's fencers fencing a bout against all three of team B's. In individual competition however, bouts only go to five, ten, or fifteen(depending upon the division, and stage of the competition). Hope that helps.

  • I use to fence just like you, but than i took an arrow to the knee!

  • Quarterback club 99?? This song is engrained in my brain from when I was 10

  • ...okay, give the song like a second to start, not a couple

  • OMG YOU GUYS! Play this with the sound off while listening to "Te Amo" by Rihanna...give that song a couple seconds to start and it syncs up pretty well with their footwork/movements

  • I'm probably wrong, but watching it, it seems a bit lame. Just lunging at each other. I hope it's more fun to do it yourself, maybe I should try it out.

  • I fence!!!!!! I have 3 foils!!!! This is my 2nd year

  • @SuperPinky678

That is exactly the same as me i fence i have 3 foils and well the is my second and a half year

im twelve though but have you got into any major competiontions cas i got into the British Youth Championship and i kinda want to know how good i am for my age :-)

    Thanks

  • I gotta question... why is fencing gender segregated??? It's not like men have a HUUUGE advantage in this!

  • @Gooseman2k2 What? Men have longer reach, faster reaction times and are more powerful. Women would be completely destroyed by men in this sport :D

  • @Mujave If reach was so important... you would see armies of giant Fencers... alas the average fencer is not that much taller than the average man!

Reaction time is a legitimate area of dispute... where even at the highest levels of elite athletes... Women are still 20-30ms slower...

Power? I literally see NO use for power or strength in this sport! Perhaps explosive speed and agility... but I cant imagine how a powerful man has an advantage!

  • @Gooseman2k2 Chum, I think the word you're looking for is finesse. Fencing finesse.

  • Someone needs to rotoscope this into lightsaber action.

  • Fencing is awesome. I play foil, and really like it. My coach fenced in the 2004 Athens Olympics! If you ever see someone jumping up real high in a picture, that's my coach!

  • @fencing4life1 OMG That picture is so awesome! I see it at many fencing clubs. Your coach is awesome!

  • so, how would one of these actually kill someone in real life? all bendy and such?

  • @EXTRON180

These are practice ones with dull tips, if you want to look at what a fencer uses in combat look up a "rapier", it will rape your face off.

  • @Breakneckhydra1 lol I did, and I have to say they're pretty wicked :D

  • @EXTRON180 It bends to so that it doesn't hurt when you get stabbed (trust me if the swords are stiff you will get massive bruises even with fencing armour) and also the swords don't break that easily. In fact, real swords were a bit bendy for the reason it helps prevent the sword break. Even the Ancient Greeks knew this with their gladius. Any good sword made in the past were a bit bendy for this reason.

  • @Solombas Correction: Ancient Romans not Ancient Greeks.

  • @Solombas Oh yes, I see :). Thank you! I actually only just recently learned about it in school too :D. That's why a thick, rotted log practically breaks easier than a bendy cedar stick.

  • @EXTRON180 Yes it's true even katana and claymores are very flexible when hit hard, without the flexibility the sword would snap in two

  • @TenebrusI07 really, even claymores? They're so huge though! I guess that's where the skill in crafting them comes huh :D?

  • @EXTRON180 Yeah it's in finding a balance in the hardness of the metal so it's sharp and stil being flexible to take a hit. You would be suprised at the sort of beating a foil can take. So yeah sword craftsmanship isn't just a skil, it's an art.

  • im listening to hardstyle while watching this.... its epic as fuck

  • @gc02345 i'm listening to dubstep :{P

  • now THIS is fencing.

  • i love fencing ;D lol i still remember that day i did a random back flip... too bad i dont do it anymore :(

  • If i was fencing, i would get a shield first...

  • lol, real swords would be awesome, but i guess simulated sword fighting like fencing will do for now.....

  • HAHA wow.. I came over here thinking I'd see some real life three musketeers type of fighting but wow is it different. Btw I honestly don't mean to disrespect fencing in anyway, just surprised at my own ignorance that's all.

  • I got back into fencing!

I fenced for about a month 4 years ago.

I really enjoyed it but I wasn't committed enough.

I really love how both fencers do their footwork!

    ART!!!

  • 0:25 Execution xD

  • i love fencing because i learned that most of JKD came from fencing, and its true!! Fencing is not a foolish sport and not to be deceived

  • How does the point system work

  • i'm thinking about buying a gloden spanish foil. 10 thumbs up if you think i should get it.

  • @titobondito well, if you plan on using it in a competition (at least in USA) spanish grips are banned. I prefer french grips, although do what thou wilt haha

  • yep dito!

  • Although I haven't began to start fencing yet, I am amazed at the art of it. I hope I can be as great as those two!

  • i just got past the british youth championships for U12 foil and now i now going to the england youth championships for U13

  • Wow and Italian and a Frenchman, excellent. How does scoring work in fencing?

  • whats the strong on their backs?

  • @lagraf05 My favorite was the animals weapon (sabre im guessing?)

  • I miss fencing foil. :(

  • Fencing is so intense!

  • Awesome!!!

  • @nievestwi foil ftw!

  • really cool, wish there were more of these

  • Vive La France

  • I wish i hadn't stopped fencing. :(

  • @bigvuch Same train hahaha, did it for 6 years and wanted to do track instead. Wish I would have stuck with it :(

  • @bigvuch Holy shit, you too ? xD

I now look at my old team mates who I used to own, they are now junior champions all over Europe.

  • @bigvuch i wish to start fencing again. :)

  • @bigvuch time to start fencing :D

  • far out i cant find a fencing studio in nelson >:O

  • Impressive, now lets see you do it without the suits....

  • @TheSirQueefington hmmmm riiiight.

  • @thebluemantis

Do know what this guy is going on about? I fail to see any signifigance in what he said.

  • These guys where very fast, but kind of brutal, sometimes they just flopped their weapons around and then attacked.

  • just because you add dramatic music and edit out all the off targets, does not make fencing super. what's super is that humans have the ability to manipulate and plan to trick their opponent.

  • I'm having my first class on monday! :D

  • I'm checking out some fencing place this monday. I hope it's legit, not one of those soccer mom bullshit karate schools you see around.

  • @jarheadkauai

Well, how did it turn out?

  • @Erectoralporicy

I love it, I like everything about.

  • @jarheadkauai

right on, i've been thinking about checking out a club myself. If you don't mind me asking - how much should I expect membership/lessons to be setting me back?

  • @Erectoralporicy

my club is 50 bucks per month, and that's like 4 classes a week at an hour 1/2 each. I dunno what most places charge though

  • @jarheadkauai

Wow, awesome - I was half expecting it to be crazy expensive. That's a bargain though, hopefully rates like that are typical. Thanks for the info man.

  • having my first class next wednesday *o*

  • 0:20-0:26 Wouldn't the match have been halted through loss of equilibrium on the part of the French competitor? I know the three points of contact rule but surely he fell and that's an automatic halt.

  • @CyberSoldierGerm Is that a normal rule? I know nothing of fencing and just got interested so Im just curious. I assumed the fight went on regardless until a point was made, but then again there are lots of rules I am learning that I knew nothing about.

  • @attoghaveympops From what I understand the Frenchman had what is known as loss of equilibrium by being unable to move swiftly enough from the position he's in though he did have right of way as his arm was straight when he made point.

Where do you fence? I started in October in Canterbury UK.

  • I was in a Foil tournament just today.

  • This was pretty brutal to my matches :'}

  • I love foil fencing more than anything. I'm at the top of my class even though I'm in a beginner class. I'm able to go against intermediates in my college :)

  • Guyart = Sanzo's nightmare.

  • they move fast

  • As a classical italian fencer its crazy to see how thin and whippy the foils theyre using are.

  • why are these foils so thin? I'm new to the sport but the foils we use are much stiffer than these appear to be.

  • @CrimsonEmpire these foils (as most you use) have a limit to how much they bend before they're classified as illegal for competition. As you get better you'll be able to flick them and make the foils bend as much as they do in this vid as you get better foil control.

  • @CrimsonEmpire It's all about the skill and strenght.. These aren't any special foils or something.

  • hope to me gunna see some at the london 2010 games

  • @holyknight234 fencing is definitely a good sport to loose weight , because it's quite intensive( depends on how hard you participate)you should train every week twice or more, But once you're in competition , it gets harder. you also train your reflexes very well. I'm fencing for 7 years now, and I still love it. Greetz from belgium

  • French and Italian are definitively the best fencers!

  • Lastly is saber, the slashing weapon. While a lame is worn in saber too the target area is the torso up excluding the groin, but including the shoulders, arms, wrists, and neck. The footwork is often overshadowed by the quick nature of saber where a quick advance and retreat is preferable to a controlled one which is not to saw there actions are wild or random only necessary due to the nature and pace. It traces back back to mounted fencing, where the lower body is not target because it is seated.

  • But I digress, foil is a descendant of a more stately gentlemanly (aka lordly) fencing. It is dictated by the rules of right of way (which ill try not to get in to but basically you must counter your opponents attack before making your own in order to gain the touch) and concentration to classical footwork is more prevalent. The touch like in epee can only be awarded by contact from the tip of the weapon to the target, only in foil a lame is worn allowing only touches to the torso and groin.

  • Also you will notice that the bell is larger for "holding" your opponents weapon as your own slides down in what is called a "bind" and also to protect the wrist and hand. The weapon be it a French pistol begum grip is rather heavy comparative to the other weapons and should balance around three inches or so out from the bell (biased on preference) Footwork is not rigid like in foil but elongated and bouncing in a wider stance since one is not concerned with the the constraints of right of way

  • there seems to be some ambiguity on the whole what weapon is the most realistic debate. Let me shed some light-we will start with epee since i have been fencing epee on an international level for around four years now, epee is derived from a free form of fencing and while the whole body is target area precision is needed to get a touch on the hand or wrist in real time while keeping distance since it is the closest target area.

  • For those complaining about fencing being easy and about slow reflexes e.t.c, stfu,

    1) Try Fencing, and you'll die of exhaustion because you've neglected to ever work out your legs by dunno, walking!

    2) IF Fencing was ever about swinging a sword around to slice somebodies throat off, why aren't you in the olympics?!

  • I do fencing :D

  • of course the guy from france rolls his ankle way too much

  • @woohoo4576 When you're attacking with the power that these guys are, your back foot will roll. Once you learn to control your body and use the power from your back leg properly its not such a big issue from an injury point of view. However for a Beginner it can cause injury because it implies poor technique. Its the difference between you dragging your back foot (bad) and your back foot being dragged by the power you're putting out (not bad)

  • @Voiv then i assume you are a fencer and that you've participated in multiple tournaments yourself, i've fenced someone that insisted it was all right to roll your ankle and he did a very deep lunge and as he recovered he lost his footing and as he fell broke his ankle, and i agree with what your saying on the dragging of the foot though

  • Comment removed

  • @woohoo4576 That's very unfortunate and must have hurt like hell! Although personally, that sounds more like over-lunging and over-balancing to me.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that rolling your back foot is"right", I would say its a side-effect of having a very powerful lunge though. Mine isn't that long or deep, but it is pretty powerful and my back foot rolls from that.

  • Drury University is starting a fencing club

  • Comment removed

  • real jedis!!!!!

  • I'm thinking about taking fencing club when I'm going to university this coming year, one because I'm really into martial arts and fencing seems interesting, and two because I need to lose weight, are these two good reasons to join fencing club?

  • i trian fencing.

    this is very nice sport

    poland

  • @Azuxet I have to agree with you and I love Poland!!!! <3 -I'm from greece-

  • Is fewncing fun? I thought fencing looked rlly fun until I saw this video of ppl @ fencing class and the way they fenced look rlly boring so I am not so sure now....

  • @daphnela98 watching without knowing the real concept can be boring. #LOL

dont worry, go join one club. its really fun. ;)

  • Fencing forever!!!!!

  • best viewed LOUD!!

  • I think he was referring to the fact that they both were hesitating to go for the strike. I dont see the hilarity but what ever.

  • Fencing is awesome! I do JKD Street Fighting(Bruce Lee's art) and we use 2 different footwork types....BOXING and FENCING. (^_^) I watch fencing vids for their footwork. Its just so fkin crazy (^_^) Its great for knife fighting also. JKD and FENCING...awesome!

  • @InfamousMindedd Haha, i also do JKD XD i've been black belt for 7 years now and i've just started fencing (been doing it for about 2 months now). If you have any experience with kali stick fighting, a lot of the motions are transposable into fencing. Also wing chun punching methods are very useful for quick thrusts ^^ You should find a club and give it a go :D

  • @Rahrhino when did JKD have a belt ranking system??

i think you're studying one of those fake, carbon copy JKD dude. Bruce Lee never intended his art to have a belt ranking system. And i know 'cause i don't practice "JKD", i practice the concepts and theory and make it my own. What Bruce Lee really intended.

  • @Nhia89 Fake carbon copies? Aside from the fact that i studied under the Bob Breen academy of JKD (one of Dan Inosato's close students as I could only assume you wouldn't know). A lot of JKD now has a belt ranking system of some kind so as to give it's students goals to achieve. Reading Tao JKD doesn't make you an expert. And yes, all blackbelts in my class knew full well tao JKD and i can only assume (not knowing your martial arts background) that we have a better understanding of it than you.

  • @Rahrhino when you say a lot of JKD has a belt ranking system now, right there thats definitely "fake and carbon copies". Do you guys where karate gi's too? Or do "JDK Grappling" and "JKD Kickboxing"?

Next some retard is gonna come up with "Cardio JKD". And yea i didn't say i was a expert at JKD 'cause i read the book. I study the concept and theory, everything else is me. And oh yea pretty sure your JKD black belts know more than i do because they are black belts. Totally understand.

  • @Nhia89 Haha cardio JKD XD That would be worse than 'Thai Bo' or 'Boxercize' lol! Hehe, we don't wear gi and the 'belts' are actually just coloured t-shirts like you'd wear on the street. As you know Tao JKD is all about progression with no fixed rules or 'style'. I cannot agree that a club system under Dan Insosanto could ever be described as a fake or carbon copy... after all, he was a key part in developing it! You seem to have a great interest in JKD, try joining a club! You may enjoy it ^^

  • @InfamousMindedd

It's not shocking - Bruce's older brother (just died a couple of years ago) was a national level fencer

  • @InfamousMindedd bruce lee was an actor enjoy your fake art

  • @Notagayusername10 Bruce Lee was a martial artist, he studied under Yip Man himself. Not all martial arts actors are fake, its best to learn about the person you're talking about.

  • fencing is well hard but when u get used to it(like me) you'll be awsome

  • who are they?

  • @FeDeX14393 The Italian Foil Team is on the right, the fencer shown the most is Salvatore Sanzo, 2001 and 2005 World Champion. The one shown in the clip where one falls down is Simone Vanni 2002 World Champion. The fencers on the right are the French Foil Team, the long right handed fencer is Brice Guyart the Athens Gold Medalist and the left handed one is Nicholas Beaudan.

  • so classy and elegant

  • I have 3 years learning fencing and is the best sport-

  • @Legendaryzantroy skateboarding is

  • 0:26 is hilarious... but I guess it didn't count

  • whats the background music??

    It sounds cool :)

it makes them fence epicly lol

  • i wonder how these guys would fair against a samuria samurai: unshess his sword... and puts it back in the case........ the fecner splits in two in a diagonal cut from the lower left abdomin, do the right shoulder

  • @CrazeKillen Well I doubt that they'd still use the fencing sword they are using now. It's hard to say. These fights would likely be done with a sabre. I think they are the rigid version of these. Looks like fencing can go on for a few seconds.

Samuria on the otherhand, the fights always end in less than a second from what I could tell. Not nearly as nimble i'd suspect when they are fully geared out.

  • @CrazeKillen I hope you realise theres a HUGE difference between fencing and samurai blade fighting, or whatever it's called. On even grounds, though, I'm pretty sure the person fighting with a rapier (the actual sword they would use) would fair pretty well.

  • @CrazeKillen There are some videos posted showing this kind of competition: a western-style sabre against a kendo (Japnese style) sword-fighter. In the ones I've viewed, the sabre does well, but I think it would really come down to how good each competitor is at his or her form of martial art. And in "real" sword-fighting, who knows? The sabre might score more, but maybe the samurai could keep fighting with a few sabre cuts, and one clean strike with a broadsword would end it.

  • These guys are incredible fencers.

  • awesome... what is the name of this song it is not on the matrix revolutions soundtrack

  • do they have swords like Zorro used in the 1950's Disney production?

  • anyone know of a real fancy posh club in london?

  • Omg awesome^^

  • i cant decide whether of the 3 weapons i should choose to focus on since they all have their good points sabre is alot of fun but foil is soo good too!! :( Damnit

  • I like foil the best.

  • My favourite was épée but I was best at foil and I never really got into sabre

  • @nievestwi

I'd have to say to go for the épée - with double touchés allowed and no 'right of way' rules it's as close to real sword fighting as you'll really get - makes the whole thing a little more intense I'd say.

  • @BloodyBritsGaming

It's a close to real sword fighting as you'll get within the modern fencing discipline. There are places you can do 'proper' sword fighting as well with weapons like rapiers and longswords.

  • @BloodyBritsGaming

I like foil a bit... just because its more 'difficult'... in a manner of rules and such.

Also, you gotta have a good director... a blind man could direct epee XD

  • @nievestwi FOIL!

  • @nievestwi

Train in all of them, in this order:

    Foil, Sabre, maybe epee

  • Think I am the 5th person asking about the sound track to this video and hopefully the last one, lol!! No, it is not the Matrix Revolutions, at least not according to iTunes. And if it's not Matrix, then what is it? Anyone?

  • sounds hella 80's...im 99.9% sure its the song Fluke by Absurd

  • Spot on! It's indeed Fluke by Absurd, also themed in Sin City. Thanks ever so much!! x

  • your welcome!

  • This would be better if they wore no mask

  • im having my first class on saturday ! :D

  • @hedleysstranger Are the classes expensive?

  • That's gay. In my son's school, Fencing is taught as a CCA. It's free.

  • You're a 13 year old boy, you just said that in another video.

So you have a son... and you're 13 year old? lmao..

  • Wtf? I don't have a son.

  • @hedleysstranger how was it?

  • @hedleysstranger how did it go mate?

  • i just had a sports try out earlier today on fencing i think i sucked i need to improve my movement

  • Looks like I've gotta lotta learn lol but all in good time

  • DAMNNNNNNNNN

  • How do they look hilarious? They look like serious sportsmen to me. And I know nothing about the sport. But its kind of obvious that they are at a very high level. Do you mean you think two men should take the guards of their weapons and actually kill each other to be serious? If you do, then you are a crazy idiot.

  • I hate people who try to be smart asses. That was a sexual joke.

  • @lollipopfop Let him volunteer first lol! Probably some kid.

  • @lollipopfop I think it looks a bit funny... not hilarious, but funny a little. To be serious though, it is the sport of it that looks funny. I'm sure the "real thing" would happen in a very different way. The sport is about getting the point first, it'd be different in real life when, regardless of the hit you just did, you still have to worry about his sword after. You wouldn't be so frantic

I don't doubt the skill, they'd cut me in a million pieces before i figured out how to hold the sword.
