She really does this song better than anyone I've ever heard - simply wonderful!

And for anyone who has performed live, word mix-ups happen (as at the end of the first verse). The sign of a great performer is that, unless you knew this song intimately, you would never have noticed!

@theblackbutterfly07 Part of being a performer means that one in criticized for a performance -it comes with the job.

I have the highest regards for Dame Kiri (I had the pleasure of chatting with her on a flight back to London, she is a genuine, friendly person). In this Lied she mixes things up -I'm sure (like any performer) she dislikes this mistake as she wants to give the best performance -any time.

1:15 - Dame Te Kanawa sings "Kehret wieder, stile Brust" instead of singing "Durch der Menschen stille Brust". Awesome.

I do love Dame Kiri's singing -alas in this clip she makes two major text mistakes: in stead of "Durch der Menschen Stille Brust" , she sings "Kehre wieder Stille Brust" (that doesn't make any sense at all). And at the end "Holde Nacht" in stead of "Heil'ge Nacht".

I'm sorry but that does ruin the poem...
