@TK42138 - Yep. In fact I have three copies. One sealed. I missed out buying one when it first came out and was determined to have one no matter what.
3 mins 41 secs what a Crescendo, best part of the track, which gently leads into the haunting...Big Wheels, put your head phones on and close your eyes, and visualise the big wheels, slowly turning.......ahh heaven
all ELO is fantastic, just a shame we hear rubbish of today , i grew up with beatles , ELO , and elton john. what we hear now ruins kids minds.........
I wish lived in the 80's, it had such good music! Not all this crap you see now a days. Im 15, and music for "my generation" sucks... i love this music!!!!
Imagine sitting down and having this stuff going through your mind and then putting it all together what a fantastic talent to have, shame we have so much crap in the charts today when you have someone so clever as Jeff Lynne.
None of today's so-called musicians could ever even think of being this inventive. And certainly never be able to put together get concept albums like ÓUT ON THE BLUE'.How I pity kids today ;O(
Jeff lynne is the most underappreciated and probably the most influential musician of the last 30 tears! He has no peers. He stands head and shoulders above all others! Just my opinion! E L O is awesome!!!!!!!!
@MultiHemmy I agree with you. Most of this is because of his natural reclusiveness. The music is just awesome. The arrangements even better and then that voice of his! There will never be another!!
@MultiHemmy I totally concur , the depth, inspiration and songwriting skill alone is incredible let alone the voice, guitar and arrangements of these Classical Pop Masterpeices! he can sew a melody into the fabric of the chord ! Its a feakish talent possessed by only a handful that have been as prolific - Lennon- MCartney , and there was 2 of them! Jeff Sebastian Back Lynne
I grew up to this. Bought the album in '77. AWSOME! I do think it's a shame that noone's brave enough to try something different like ELO and Pink Floyd were doing in the 70's
i'm trying to get an EP (top four songs) produced and ELO are a massive inspiration! check out my my space if you want (not trying to advertise anything would just like to hear an opinion :) they're not 100% done yet :)
remember buying this album in 77 and It was like the coolest thing I ever owned, came with a elo t-shirt, a poster with dorothy's ruby shoes and a cool paper model of elo's spaceship... side three was and is still one of my favorite album sides...
yeah i know jeff is a musical genius there will never be a record producer like jeff lynne ever again i mean producing for THE BEATLES?!!! He's that awesome! Not to mention hes a great musician, too! And who doesn't dig that 'fro LOL?! oh and btw out of the blue has to be one of the greatest and most underrated albums of all time
Interesting story behind this song. Lynne locked himself up in Switzerland to write the songs for this album. Inclement weather created a writing block, but after a week or so, there was a break in the clouds and the weather cleared. On that day, he wrote Mr. Blue Sky. Bad weather ensued, he went back into seclusion, wrote this song and the rest of A New World Record. Cool huh?
ELO continues to be unparalleled by any present-day group, and Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. They literally "don't write 'em like this anymore", and it's a shame.
This is so hard but If I had to pick just one ELO Eighties track and one ELO Seventies track they would be Twilight and this, Standin in the Rain, respectively. My favourite track (simply perfection) off my favourite album, Out of the Blue (probably followed by Believe Me Now / Steppin Out).
Well said my friend. Theres only one better way to hear this song, and thats ''live'' I saw them do it ''live'' at Wembley back in the 70s. It choked me up it was so good!
Has to be one of the best recordings of all time.. to have been made in the 70's.. You can put it up against the best of today... nothing touches the ELO recordings!!!
yeah yeah and oh yeah this has some real head cutters here in some places! rips off everything! bloody marvelous stuff! especially that diminishing chorus !!!!!
This is what music should sound like !
