Yesterday I loST a member of my family, my dog. My little shih-tzu got out of the fence when the wind blew it open. He went "exploring" as he always did when he got out. It was dark and he got hit by a car. The driver never stopped. Everyone searched frantically for him. I called in his tags to find out he was laying on the side of the road dead :( My poor harley died by a driver that never stopped! You will always be in my heart little guy and mommy loves you so much. RIP 1-13-12 :(
My grandpa died that day too. I understand. I am so sorry for your loss. Many people say that losing a "pet" isn't the same as losing a true family member. Animals are our family too, and it hurts just as much as losing a brother, mom, grandma, etc. I hope things get easier for you. You and your Harley are in my prayers.
@11Cloverchick Thanks for your kind words. I too hope things get easier for you as well. Losing a pet IS like losing a family member. My fur baby I had for 12 years. When you spend that much time with something you love them like you would love a parent or relative. Harley will greatly be missed as he made an impression on so many. I worked in a personal care home and there was a guy who never talked and has seizures. Out of 40 some residents Harley chose this man to sit beside and lay next to.

I'm always amazed that a song about doing heroin is so prominent at funerals and the like. It's an absolutely gorgeous song, but its about getting high on heroin and seeking a little comfort in depravity. And, yes, that really is what the song is about. Sarah even said so at her VH1 Storytellers and the lyrics back that up. Angel is one of the many slang terms for heroin.

When my 3 month old Doberman puppy was recovering from a broken leg and surgery, I played this song over and over to help calm her down. She had so much energy and not being able to move for 8 weeks, while we sat in a little indoor pen, was crazy for her. This song seemed to calm her. @fitzgerraldx Um actually I think the angel is an angel; She actually wrote this for a person who died of a drug overdose so it is kind of about death, but the angel is (I think) symbolizing the relief of all the pain, that he is being carried to a better place now, not the drugs comforting the addict. Yesterday I loST a member of my family, my dog. My little shih-tzu got out of the fence when the wind blew it open. He went "exploring" as he always did when he got out. It was dark and he got hit by a car. The driver never stopped. Everyone searched frantically for him. I called in his tags to find out he was laying on the side of the road dead :( My poor harley died by a driver that never stopped! You will always be in my heart little guy and mommy loves you so much. RIP 1-13-12 :(

My grandpa died that day too. I understand. I am so sorry for your loss. Many people say that losing a "pet" isn't the same as losing a true family member. Animals are our family too, and it hurts just as much as losing a brother, mom, grandma, etc. I hope things get easier for you. You and your Harley are in my prayers.

@11Cloverchick Thanks for your kind words. I too hope things get easier for you as well. Losing a pet IS like losing a family member. My fur baby I had for 12 years. When you spend that much time with something you love them like you would love a parent or relative. Harley will greatly be missed as he made an impression on so many. I worked in a personal care home and there was a guy who never talked and has seizures. Out of 40 some residents Harley chose this man to sit beside and lay next to.

@JennClayton09 I lost my dog a couple weeks ago as well. I'm so sorry that he was hit by that driver. My dog was found lying in our backyard right under my window. His name was Mackie, and he was a black lab mix chow. For being apart of my life for fourteen years, I can't remember a time when he wasn't sitting at my back door scratching and guilting me into giving him some extra ham, even though I probably would have done the same thing sooner or later. May both dogs rest in peace. 12-29-11

I'm always amazed that a song about doing heroin is so prominent at funerals and the like. It's an absolutely gorgeous song, but its about getting high on heroin and seeking a little comfort in depravity. And, yes, that really is what the song is about. Sarah even said so at her VH1 Storytellers and the lyrics back that up. Angel is one of the many slang terms for heroin.

Wow, I came to this song because of the dog commercial just to hear the whole song. After hearing the song and reading everyones comments, with tears in my eyes, I realize pain and death really hurt. And if you see someone going through lost of family, depression, or any pain--- give them a hug and show them love. We don't know what life we may save. Love is the key for us all.

My mother died when I was 16 months old. They played this song at her fural. To got to the church, she was taken in a horse drawn carriage by two fresians. Everytime I hear this song I think of her. When my 3 month old Doberman puppy was recovering from a broken leg and surgery, I played this song over and over to help calm her down. She had so much energy and not being able to move for 8 weeks, while we sat in a little indoor pen, was crazy for her. This song seemed to calm her. i don't take this song as a death, or an anthem to abused pets or the homeless. it's about an addict's struggle. the angel isn't an angel at all...it's the drugs, and the comfort they bring the addict.

@fitzgerraldx Um actually I think the angel is an angel; She actually wrote this for a person who died of a drug overdose so it is kind of about death, but the angel is (I think) symbolizing the relief of all the pain, that he is being carried to a better place now, not the drugs comforting the addict. Oh, well, that's what I think, at least

This song reminds me about how I felt the day my uncle died, and I was in the kind of shock that leaves you in a weightless daze. But anyways, the drug reference makes a lot of sense.
