I own the hg20, the reason I got it over the hv20/30 is because I wouldn't have to constantly buy tapes. They are pretty much the same camera.

You still have a lot to learn about movie making my friend. Special effects like these take a long time to learn but yes, Vegas allows you to do about 100x more than wmm.
