  • Hey michellemyshel ~ Get yourself the safest bottles out there! Get a BIG Kleen Kantene made from stainless steel to avoid the plastic completely. Take good care!

  • what about bottled water, im pregnant, freakin about bpa, and need water all the time. I work all day and dont have access to water filters at work, and one huge bottle of water just doesnt cut it. anyway, im having a hard time finding plastic bottles that are bpa free.... help?

  • Thge only can food I was eating was retired beans Rosarita. It was so easy to nuke 1/2 the can and add to rice for a fast meal... But now I wil not eat the beans. I will sub with black eye peas frozen in bags and try to live with that.

  • I'd like to talk about her cans...............

  • all good and fun

wonder what are the replacing bpa with? an even more toxix chemical?

remember the days fo sugar is bad

    now we have corn syrup

and aspartame witch is about 100 worst and neurotoxic

    :)

  • Alex, your skin is lovely...you radiate good health and are an inspiration to me to eat better, do yoga more and be more concientous (sp?) about what I buy!

I am on a very tight budget but have been trying to buy less canned foods in general. I am fortunate enough to live near a few stores that offer a lot of foods in bulk, so I stock up on dry beans, rice, etc. I save all of my jars from other foods and use them to "can" freshly cooked beans. I also started using cloth bags for bulk stuff.

  • Just curious...what does BPA free mean to you?

Absolutely no BPA at any detectable limit?

    < 0.01%?

    < 0.000001%

Even the Eden brand of BPA free products are showing detectable levels in their products...it's in water pipe linings and water tank linings, it's in can linings of the sauces they buy, it's in fish and the water they swim in...

When you talk about looking at parts per billion of chemical in our everyday life, I don't see how any company will be able to "factually" claim BPA free.

  • @ConcernedChemist2 yeah all they mean is no bpa in the lining of the can not the product

    its all semantics u see:)

  • @MrAbsoluteknowledge

Again the point is at what level?

Contaminant level BPA is everywhere - you just have to extract longer in your testing and check deeper.

parts per trillion are now the focus which you will find it just about anywhere.

So what does "free" mean from a number value?

If I find 150 ppT in a coating and i didn't use BPA as a raw material - is it BPA free?

  • @Zippypo I understand that budget can be a factor when trying to eat a heathy diet. I find it ironic how cheap foods are terrible for you. The fact of the matter is that it's a pay now or pay later scenario. We're stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to this! That's why I love Trader Joe's. How come they can make healthy, organic products affordable and no one else can?

  • @jennydrozd29 I hear that TJ's buys directly from small vendors rather than going through larger middle-men, which keeps their prices lower.

  • Thank you for taking the time to raise awareness on this topic!

  • @jennydrozd29 You bet! There is so much good information to share! Hope this helps you make confident choices.

  • Hey Zippypo - you can avoid BPA by buying dried beans in plastic bags and cooking beans from scratch. They're also cheaper that way!

  • @AlexandraNutrition plastic bags also contain BPA. DOH!

  • @jmcilroy51 Yes, plastic bags also contain BPA and are made from petroleum - however, they're not going to soak the BPA into your beans like the canned beans will. It would be great if we could all shop in bulk using cloth bags, wouldn't it? Just not a viable option right now for most people.

  • @AlexandraNutrition why not renewable, recyclable paper products. Not as expensive at cloth bags. Or glass bottles? There are simple alternatives to BPA.

  • @jmcilroy51 Totally! I use cloth bags, some of which I made, some I bought, as well as using glass, reusing plastic bags (umpteen times!) - it's a mixture of stuff. My grocery store is a members co-op and they don't even have bags at the check-out: you have to bring your own, use cardboard boxes that the co-op has leftover from new foods, or buy a re-usable bag. Most people bring their own bags all the time. I've been doing it since childhood, so it's a habit - for others it's new!

  • Unfortunately for those of us that are on a poor mans budget we can't afford products like Eden. I do shop at Trader Joe's for the simple fact that if you ever have a question on one of there products they will answer it. Nothing hiding.

With beans I try to stay with the dry ones. What are your thoughts on those coming in plastic? I usuallyy buy Goya brand. Thanks

  • @Zippypo Hey there! You can get Eden coupons by writing to them online and asking - a great way to save money on high quality eats! Just go to their website and click contact us and ask them to send some coupons!

  • @AlexandraNutrition Thanks I do enjoy many of there products and when shopping yesterday I noticed not a big difference from other processed foods in a can.Funny I don't buy allot of processed foods so it all looks expensive to me. I do very well on a vegan diet been doing it for 5 years. I eat tons of produce in the summer that is the way I keep my grocery bill down.
