I read somewhere that forearms are largely determined by genetics and that there is really not much you can do if you were born with thin wrists. What do you people think?

When I first saw the article on Gunnar, I could not believe those forearms. They were larger than most professional bodybuilder's arms! His hands, wrists and forearms are incredible. Almost reminds one of "The Hulk".
I remember a very early 80's Muscle & Fitness profile on Gunnar which included several of these photos. The most memorable part may have been that they reported that he drank booze and smoked on a regular basis versus the I got like this by using weider products line.
if you have noticed, almost all the pix's of Gunnar are from the right side, his left arm was supposedly 2-3 inches smaller than his right (notice his arms in the pic holding mags, and another when doing wrist curls)

I never said anything specifically about Cyplenkov, he might be an exception, however he could never ever compare to Arnold, and i reckon he doesn't care either way.

Anything over 14 and approaching 15" is huge...depending on the shape.

This is really odd LOL because when i put the tape close to the elbow and i hold my arm at 90 degree angle, it actually measure 40cm and I am first to admit that my forearms don't look as big as the champs e.g. Rosbo, but this means that i infact do have forearms the size of Oliva then? I also don't have Rosbos striations & cuts - which surely must add a degree of illusion.

All the measurements that have been published in various magazines for decades are crap.The largest muscular forearm measurements were taken by Arthur Jones at his HQ,they were 15/9/16 inches.The forearms belonged to Ray mentzer,Sergio was recorded as having the same measurement,but Ray's wrists were slightly smaller.The other guy who had a measurement of a tad under 15/1/2 inches was Casey Viator,in contest condition,and taken with a tape measure made from newspaper,''cold'' on the first flex.

A cut 15" forearms converging into a 7" wrist looks huge.

I've been to a live competition. I did not say he has 15 inch forearms- I was just making a point. Arnold did not have 22 inch arms as he only weighed 240 lbs at a height of 6'2". Cutler weighs in at around 270 lbs and he does have 22 inch arms and he is only 5' 9". Height does have something to do with it as I have a friend who is 6'1" with 17 inch arms and I also have 17 inch arms at a height of 5'9"- who do u think looks biggest?
I do have an idea of what I'm talking about as I have delved deep into body building.Now I understand how much hyperbole surrounds weider.Find 20" on your tape measure and form a loop. wrap around your forearms and see how much hangs loose- envision how much muscle would be needed to fill it. Same here, my wrists measure 7.7 inch and my right forearm (slightly bigger than left) measure 40cm. And my forearm does not look as big as Rosbo's, thing is his cuts & striations creates an illusion + standing alone + photographed from close distance.
This is my guess - his arms measure approx 19 inch cut, and his forearms no less than 15 cut. This guy was pretty tall (1.83cm), i always thought he was much shorter, around 5'7" like Mentzer and Viator. Goes to show how rugged he really was!

If we can agree that Gunnar's forearms were the same size as his neck then we can make the following observations.
1.In a photo of Gunnar and Lou Ferrigno, Gunnar's neck and Lou's neck appeared to be the same size.
2. Lou's neck is alleged to be 20 inches.
3. Given that we assumed Gunnar's forearms are about the same size as his neck his forearms are 19-20 inches.
Go on google images and type in gunnar rosbo and you should find the picture right away.

I remember Rosbo when I was just a teenager starting out in bodybuilding. I also remember that he developed a pinched nerve and left the sport.
But what happened to him since? Is anyone from Norway? Did he start a gym or train other people? Does he attend regional bodybuilding shows? I'd really like to know.

20 inches??? i said dennis cyplenkov has 25 inches,i myself during my mainstream bodybuilding days had 20 inch arms with 35% BMI,OF COURSE LITTLE MASS TOO.i dont remember the website name but in YOUTUBE,cyplenkov stands next to another arm wrestler who is 6 foot 3 and makes him look skinny.just type cyplenkov armwrestling.

All the measurements that have been published in various magazines for decades are crap.The largest muscular forearm measurements were taken by Arthur Jones at his HQ,they were 15/9/16 inches.The forearms belonged to Ray mentzer,Sergio was recorded as having the same measurement,but Ray's wrists were slightly smaller.The other guy who had a measurement of a tad under 15/1/2 inches was Casey Viator,in contest condition,and taken with a tape measure made from newspaper,''cold'' on the first flex.

21" forearms? no chance. He has very big forearms sure. 52 cm would mean he has forearms almost the circumference of his head. His upper arms probably don't measure 20". You must take all these exagerrated girths with a pinch of salt. The muscle mags peddle some right bull. Reading flex and musclemag has confused and held people back for years. A cut 15" forearms converging into a 7" wrist looks huge.

I never said he had 15 inch forearms, I was just making a point about the power of illusion. If you actually believe this man has over 20 inch forearms you're living on another planet. Maybe if he is seven foot tall. You need to take such exagerrations with a pinch of salt. Arnold did not have 22 inch upper arms either- exagerations again.

I've been to a live competition. I did not say he has 15 inch forearms- I was just making a point. Arnold did not have 22 inch arms as he only weighed 240 lbs at a height of 6'2". Cutler weighs in at around 270 lbs and he does have 22 inch arms and he is only 5' 9". Height does have something to do with it as I have a friend who is 6'1" with 17 inch arms and I also have 17 inch arms at a height of 5'9"- who do u think looks biggest?

I do have an idea of what I'm talking about as I have delved deep into body building.Now I understand how much hyperbole surrounds weider.Find 20" on your tape measure and form a loop. wrap around your forearms and see how much hangs loose- envision how much muscle would be needed to fill it. U say u have 15" forearms- sorry, no u don't. I've been on your bodyblog and your arms looks similar to mine. u don't measure forearms swan-necked, u hold them out straight and flexed, wrist turned in.

Same here, my wrists measure 7.7 inch and my right forearm (slightly bigger than left) measure 40cm. And my forearm does not look as big as Rosbo's, thing is his cuts & striations creates an illusion + standing alone + photographed from close distance.
This is my guess - his arms measure approx 19 inch cut, and his forearms no less than 15 cut. This guy was pretty tall (1.83cm), i always thought he was much shorter, around 5'7" like Mentzer and Viator. Goes to show how rugged he really was!

not 12 buddy it was 14 but later grew it to 16,he's a massive guy without competing or crying for attention delivered his message that patience and perseverence pays in bodybuilding.

Surely you jest. so he somehow managed to make his wrist grow 2 inches? Not that 12 or 14 inches isn't an unbelievably big wrist anyway. Andre the giants were 'only' 11" and he's over 7 foot. He probably had about 8 inch wrists. He is only 5'10" tall if he has 16" wrists his hands would be the size of dinner plates. if his bones or muscles were as big as his claims he would look like a deformed blob of muscle and not even humanoid.

nope i did'nt jest i'm serious,for those involved in bodybuilding or any weighted sports size is'nt a matter.because of their exercise regimen and of course juices.just look carefully at vic photos buddy he's damn huge.and i dont know of andre the giants stats,but vic is for sure the real deal.and check out when sonny liston had a 16 inch fists and mike has a 13 inch fists after all these people are professional bodybuilders.they have dedicated their life/lifestyle for the sport buddy.

you dont understand here...fanboy. Its not about what I think (and hopefully not what YOU think). read B&K /BODY mazagines. all they say "gunnar rosbo" is the true legend. The giant with the greatest arm of all time. absolutely "top 10 huge guns" . just paus @40. the picture is NOT compressed. Gunnar is simply some sizes taller and bigger man. Still thou with oversized arms.

those who been around in bodybuilding etc for many years may not know his name...but when they see pictures and talk bout it. all remember : the biggest forearms of alltime. Priest may have more "good looking" arms , but Gunnars are so much bigger,massive and stronger. its just Old school and you sure dont belong/knowledge bout that. Sorry for you.

He is very short. that gives him a good ratio. wrist- to- arm and vv. still priest only meassured about 18,5 Inch. Gunnar = 21 Inch ;)
