wow dude, this is epic! I am totally self taught, playing for about 12 years now, and I've been jamming polyrhythms for a while, I have a dynamic brain...?, but I had NO idea wtf they even were, or how to count them. For me to actually sit down and play this independently, would be insanely hard, but you make it flow. Amazing, dude!
You sir are one of the true Masters of the RUBIK'S ESK like MODERN OSTERNATO.Not only do you possess the ability to play with time and space but you also understand context in application
All I say is ...WOW..... polyrythmes are sooo hard and it take a LOT of work to dissociate all the body parts (woops don't know if it's right in english) so cheers keep up the good job man!
Sorry Denny. Nice stuff, but sounds more like an exercise rather than drum composition. You, Marco Minemann, Grant Collins are basically all doing the same stuff with a twist here or there. You never add harmony, or melody...and your little pieces sound more like exercises. You sound like Minnemann, and Grant Collins...but you don't come close to Bozzio. Bozzio is like a concert pianist.
Yes, this part really sounds like an exercise. You right. I juust trying to show what it will be like to mix a 3 different time signatures in the time. Yup, i'm only a another Bozzio follower. But i always try to have different sound from him. Thx again for your writing. :)
Very nice....but Terry Bozzio was doing this 15 years ago, and has inspired drummers like Marco Minnemann, Grant Collins, Thomas Lang, and just about any other drummer out there doing some type of ostinato work. All this goes back to one drummers idea, genius and creativity. His name is Terry Bozzio!! Buy Terry Bozzio's "Live in Concert". Terry Bozzio is the one who started all of this.
Let me rephrase what I said. Yes, Terry wasn't doing 3 layers per say of ostinato playing 15 years ago. He still came up with the idea of "ostinato" drumming...more in the compositional format. Denny, if you're on an ego trip then hat's off, but this stuff sounds like an "exercise rather than drum composition." That's why Bozzio is so much better. He takes into account harmony and melody. 3 layers to Bozzio would be a walk in the park.
Polymetrics are polyrhythms, "polyrhythm" means any two or more independant rhythms being played at once. Ie Meshuggah 4/4 with hands and 23/16 with feet but the eighth notes in either are the same length, thats a polymetric polyrhythm. When you on the other hand, the eighth notes of one change, ie 7 eights on feet equal space in time to four notes on hand then thats a... er different kind of polyrhythm.
