OMG! He has such a gorgeous smile! This was the first time I'd ever watched the Nutcracker, and I was very impressed...altho Clara seems like a bit of a cold fish and Drosselmeyer seems like a pedophile.
I don't like this version. I think she looks down too much. And I don't feel that much emotion from her either. It could just be me. But I really don't like this version. Amazing technique and all but I don't feel much heart.
Don't think there's an official dvd out. Possibly an old vhs on ebay. I would love a copy also. My dad recorded it on vhs for me YEARS ago (at least 14) and though it still works, vcr's are a dying breed and the last time I watched it (maybe 4 years ago) there was hardly any sound left. This performance single handedly made me take ballet- at the age of 18 when I could pay for my own classes!
There may be better ballerinas in the world, but IMO there's just none so beautiful as Patricia Barker. That the PNB let her get away was an inexcusable mistake on their part. She put them on the map with this performance, which is breathtakingly beautiful!
i love this production out of all of them hands down! i saw it when i was 12 and i asked my mom if i could take ballet. sadly she didnt sign me up and to this day i watch in awe.
omg i love pn's nutcracker. i've gone to it every year for the last 10 years! it's become the family christmas tradition and it never gets old. nothing gets you more in the christmas spirit than this!
I love this too--though I think the ending is really freaky. I like the idea of having this dance done by a grown-up Clara and The Nutcracker instead of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her cavalier.
Yeah this is definitely my fav adaptation of the nutcracker. I've been watching it for years ever since I can remember. And since, I've been wanting so badly just to go and see the ballet in person.
The PNB does the best production of the Nutcracker—hands down. The sets and costumes are by Maurice Sendak! This is an old video but it's worth it to travel to Seattle to see this every year. I do!
This is one of my favorite pieces of music. Simple, basic, running up and down the scales yet it evokes such emotion, such beauty. And these two dancers bring that to life. This is probably my favorite adaptation of The Nutcracker.
Does anyone know if this version is available on dvd?
