I bought a G74S at the end of September, fully spec'd up version with 16GB of ram and 1.5TB HDD, would have been nice to have got the SSD but the £'s / GB is not cost effective enough for me yet.

The best part of the whole machine for me is the price... 1,700GBP, way cheaper than anything else

@1337soundeZ quietest computer I have ever own, and the cooling system is excellent. I normally sit on my bed with it on my lap when I play games, surf the internet. Laptop is pretty heavy I think its 10 pounds or so plus its really hard to find a good laptop bag that the G74 will fit in. Make sure that you have a book or something between laptop and your lap if you want to have kids someday. G74's bottom does not get that hot though just the back where the vents are.

@ShootingPenguin i had around 34 fps and G74 WILL run battlefield 3 smoothly in 1920-1080 on medium settings i dont know abaut max settings but i think if you play on high you will be able to get 34 fps on G74 and on medium around 40 fps :)

I think my ASUS G73SW-XT1 looks better :-) ..Awesome shape and material finish (rubbery matt black).

ASUS's next gaming notebook model should have a 384-bit GPU, GDDR5. The 1.5 gig. GTX 460M is only 192-bit with GDDR5 and the GTX 485M is only 256-bit.

Though I'm quite impressed with the 1.5 gig. GTX 460M (192-bit) on my G73SW-XT1. I'm so used to the 382-bit GPU like the 8800 GTS/GTX like on my desktop.

..But for sure, ..I will never own a desktop PC ever again, gaming notebook rules!

I like the keyboard layout a little better but I think I like the g73sw look a little better. Hard choice. I was going to wait for this to hit the selfs but I think Iwill just order my g73sw 3de. The 17 inch one is ready to ship on the 3rd of June, in 2 days :P and apparently (i dont know, i might be mistaken) the new one doesn't need glasses to show 3D images (the glasses can damage your eyes)

The red line sucks. If they insist on the lining, it should at least be brushed aluminum or something that matches the color of the logo and buttons. The red is out of place and looks tacky, or dated.

Overall, it just seems like it lost it's soul. The G73 looks far better than this. I hope this is just a test model and not the final design.

I need a laptop & my selection was the G73SX 3DE (yes, the G73 is really great and less expensive that Alienware models), but not happy that it does not utilize Optimus technology.

So finally, the G74SX 3D looks to be the laptop I'm waiting since months :) Nice design and nice improvments I'm waiting for.

Hope it's graphics card is better (NVIDIA 560M instead of 460M, but 1G instead of 1.5G video ram), Optimus and longer battery life (like M17XR3?).
