@EnglishChannel1 - The album / EP in question is not an official release, just a vinyl bootleg that was floating around way back when (I remember almost buying a copy in the mid-80's). Other than this track, it includes several other early demos like "The Fool" and "Life On a Distant Planet" (Or "Magic Carpet" or whatever the actual title is).
This sounds like it's from a cassette recording being played in a player that's a little too fast because Bono's voice sounds a little too high. But this is definitely Bono. I like the hints at the New Year's Day piano part. Plus just a really moving poem.
I might try and obtain this EP, if it exists like you say. I have every U2 album ever released. I remember the 'Wide Awake in America' EP in 1984, I remember Zooropa in 1983 was going to be an EP but grew into an album, I think they should have left it as an EP as originally intended. An early U2 release was 'U23', which I think is a collectors piece now. Listening to this again I guess this probably is Bono, he was very young at the time therefore sounds a bit kid-like and differnt from today.
this is bono, for sure, who else could it be, it is not conspiracy set up by the world new order ;)
very nice to hear this anyway.... i have interview from 1983 with Bono on a casette tape and his voice sounds the same as here , a young eager voice.... :)
@TheRevRockstar no it was 1984 and Pride was a top ten single. He was on radio, what guest just talks on radio w/out being introduced or introducing themselves?
Seriously? Hah. '79 or '84, either way ... Bono sounds like he's about 12 years old! I still love this though and just dug out my vinyl for holiday playing.
Thanks SO much for posting this, letting me share it with friends this Xmas. I've had the vinyl since 1980 but never get around to digitizing it. (New Year's resolution!) Happy holidays!
I think he breathed-in a lot of helium before reading this
he still sounds amazing though

@karmabono Oh it's definitely his voice, just MUCH younger. He had to introduce himself because it was well before the world knew who he, or U2 were.

@JZaccario There's a 1979 version, too. Kabjdo Records (also has Out of Control & Twilight)
tahloolahlee 2 years ago
@tahloolahlee - there is no 1979 version. That Kabjdo bootleg vinyl came out in 1984. They put 1979 on it to make it look more rare.
