And there's gotta be more out there. Did you really think there weren't any? Shintoism teaches that living is one state of being; being dead is another, a state of non-being. No afterlife at all. You're not even supposed to focus on your death: Just live harmoniously.
(Sorry, I kinda cheated with my list. I'm a college student studying foreign cultures. ^^ )
@stufffromcatherine I'd try though I'd probably fail to find such an epitome of what I've always wanted to say. Your comment - in a weird way, indeed - was all I needed to hear to understand why the hell I love Charlie Fink so much. Thanks, Catherine (:
i know this is a more childish take on the song, but to me... it's a lullaby, or a child's story, where the meaning is the story itself, or one that's shallow, so a kid understands it... if that makes any sense
I have a different point of view about this song. I reckon it speaks of life, as opposed to death... when i listen to it, it makes me think about how i can influence five thousand people around the world, and so on.
Beautiful song indeed, whichever the interpretation is.
I'd say they're very good live. There's some videos on my profile, (not to plug myself), if you wanna have a listen to their KOKO performance last November.
I saw them play at Coachella last spring. unfortunately Charlie was sick and couldn't do a complete set, but they were still amazing. I can't wait to see them in October when they come to LA
So I don't get this. I love this song, a nice view. But, at the same time. They made the song "Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down", that has these lyrics. "And if you don't believe in God, then how can you believe in love? When we're all just matter, that someday will scatter." And this song's aetheistic, ya know?

That's a little glib don't you think? Religon can disprove Science, Science however can not disprove Religion. Your basically insulting all people with any religious beliefs at all. Genius.
How can religion disprove science?? The only evidence there is to any religion are subjective texts written by human beings themselves: the Bible, the Qur'an, the Torah, etc. The only "proof" there is for anyone that believes in religion is the text itself, from which the religion is derived. But problem there is that citing something in itself isn't evidence at all, it's the equivalent of writing a story and referring to the story itself as evidence that it's factual.
I don't see this song as atheistic, actually. For one, you can believe in a deity without believing in an afterlife. And I think this song talks about how everything is connected and that's especially evident after death. Whether you believe in a physical afterlife or not, the part of you that is left behind is in the earth creating new life.
@SachalKhan Are you saying I don't expect older more uncommon instruments to come from folk music? I was comparing Noah and the Whale to the Hush Sound, not talking about genres.
yeah laura marling was part of noah and the whale and was actually a member of the band, charlie produced her album. but she had to leave the band to pursue her solo career! good job she did to.
i'm pretty sure she was in the band. in her puregroove interview she said something about them, then followed it by saying "which is kinda biased cuz im in the band!"
I think she took "Emmy the Great"'s place or something. I believe she's just doing her solo thing now, but I think they still do stuff together, I mean, they're in her ghost video or whatever aren't they?
I had no idea this was such a small song by them, I thought it was a single, I love it.

If you can believe in a diety without an afterlife cn you name one religion on earth with a diety and no form of afterlife?
FrozenCanuck135 8 months ago
@FrozenCanuck135
A couple that I can name off the top of my head:
Deism
Shintoism
Taoism
Some Judaism
Some Agnosticism
Some Satanism
And there's gotta be more out there. Did you really think there weren't any? Shintoism teaches that living is one state of being; being dead is another, a state of non-being. No afterlife at all. You're not even supposed to focus on your death: Just live harmoniously.

Maybe it's ironic- although, saying that it isn't like them to be contradictory. They write from the heart.
