I am sorry if my comments have hurt anyone. I apologise. I love shankar mahadevan he is one my fav musicians. I dislike this performance of his. I have expressed what I felt. He is capable of producing better music than this.#
''the dude is well trained in indian classical''!! The dude? Do you even know who Mclaughlin is?! He is single handedly responsible for bringing this genre into existence!! And of course this IS jazz fusion. Please step out of your little bubble, gone are the days when jazz just meant american bop jazz. A whole new world of ethno jazz has come into play all throughout Europe and in the subcontinent.
All these musicians are giants in their own field. Shankar Mahadevan is well versed in both the North Indian as well as South Indian music..has a phenomenal range of voice and a great deal of knowledge about music.
It is a great treat to listen to them all together. Zakir, of, course, is the most versatile musician.
Let's focus on the music and not on negative non-sense.
This IS NOT jazz fusion or fusion jazz at all. This is a Carnatic Classical composition by the composer Thyagaraja. It is an interpretation by U. Shrinivas (the mandolin player) for Shakti. I have seen a few Shakti concerts. They do not play jazz at all. Its fusion but mostly of Indian styles. John McLaughlin does use a chordal approach but continues to improvise in the Carnatic style throughout his music with Shakti.Mahavishnu had an element of jazz. The dude is well-trained in Indian classical
thr have been concerts whr shabkar had not been upto the mark.reading ur comments i thght this was also like tht...but after watching the video i know now tht dont have any taste in music
rubbish.bad impression of indian carnatic music. shankar should stop this confusion in the name of fusion. He is not even able to sing in sruti. Swara alapana of shankar is crap.
@rkrkrk8 with out knowing the blend of music of India don talkrubbish on other buddy if u know that much music den if u have guts pls sing the breathless song of Shankar Mahadevan i will take a bet
@rkrkrk8 Shankar Mahadevan doesn't need to sing śruti for this style of music, and his swaras are wicked fast & pitch perfect. The timbre of his voice also incredibly gorgeous. I love all the musicians in this (and previous) line up of Shakti. Deep respect for them all.

@rkrkrk8 to bad. He's now a renowned musician and you're just a couch potato watching his videos on Youtube. Reality hits hard doesn't it?
