I think this was pretty good. The tempo was a little slow. I didn't really hear any dynamic change or any accents. But. For a middle school this is. Okay.
@pepepoo9 I said it was good. It is good. I played this in middle school just like them. So it's not like I was saying that they could have done these things that they couldn't do like dynamics. I'm sure elementary schoolers could do dynamics..
The sucky thing about playing the trombone is if you mess up everyone knows its you and if one person plays an F in 6th position and another in 1st they think one person messed up when you can do it in both positions.
@Peachiihime OMG!!! I WAS JUST ABOUT TO REPLY TO U WHEN I WAS LIKE WTF!!!!!!! hahaha i thought the username looked familiar. but its funny that we both happened to choose the same video, especially its not 1 of those really popular 1's with millions of views.
Hmm... I should get my band to play this. We have kickass numbers. 6 Percussion 12+ Clarinets 4+ Flutes(with 1 switching to piccolo) 8-9 Alto Saxophones 2 Tenor Saxo's 1 Bariton Saxo 3 Bariton/Euphonium 2 Tuba. 1 Electric Guitar (ye, i know LOL) 10 trumpets and 5 Trombones, of which 2 kick ass me and this other kid. Ima play this song LL
Totally awesome! My band (6-8) Jjust started this about a few days ago. Im in both the bands and the beginning band is terrible at it but we only have one trombone in that class. In advanced band we have two trombones(1advanced,1beginning) an they kick butt! We're combining the two bands for when we go to Disneyland! (yeeaa:D) flutes and clarinets rule!! And piccolos and alto saxes an trombone and percussion!!!!!
It seems like alot of bands are taking heavy hits in the trombone department. My band has only two trombones and the other one is quiting so it will be just me next year. So ill be the only trombone in Concert and Jazz band next year.
This band is making my band feel small...... I only have 18 people in my band. 4 trumpets, 4 flutes, 4 clarinets, 2 tenor saxes, 1 trombone (and we're doing this song), 1 baritone (me), one tuba and *sniff* one percussion! Everyone else quite because they didn't like my conductor
Super job, kids! Our alumni band plays this, and I wish we sounded half as good. Also, the sight of a "band shell" sent me back more years than I care to admit- I haven't seen a shell since junior high school- my God, 27 years ago!
Lol, we played this for honor band. I was on Bari sax.. but there was no Bari sax music. so I had to transpose Tube music from Bass Cleff to Trebble... NOT easy for me.
The night before the concert they found the Bari sax music.. and it was a ton easier. lol
@limosince2007 i completely agree... the percussion on this part sucks as it is but you must really be talentless to do that... i played cymbals, the snare at least does somethin
our 7th grade band is playing this, and it's HARD! I only play the trumpet, of corse, i suck, but i'm tryin. we have 3 trombones and 1 baritone in the low brass. they're getting better. XD
@SteveRoberts100 keep in mind they're only in middle school. I'll admit it aint the best. If you ask me, rest of the band needed to play softer and trombones louder! But they played great.
i played it in 2 years ago in 8th grade we only had 4 trombones so we had a tuba and baritone player come from their sections and learn it on trombone
I remember playing this song in the 7th grade. It was my first year on trombone (I played Tuba previously). It was the only song the whole year that I struggled with :p
fuck these guys i have this piece and you have to tongue everything these guys are glissando accept for the actual glisses which are in the second section of this song and also in the second section of this song is the eighth/ sixteenth notes (i cant remember) after the triplets they have to play those staccatowhich they were obviously not doing. we played this at our little school in Annville Pennsylvania, and we did it WAY better! no offense! we have an EXTRAVAGANT trombonist whom graduates this year! she rocked it out!
i played this in jr high played trombone and was on the football team after playing this song throughout the year my right arm was so strong i could give an opposing running back a clothesline from hell and take his helmet off but they would not let me play in my band uniform
why have people rated my comment down? O_o i just feel bad for them standing instead of sitting. even though its proper, for me its likely to sit down.

You have absolutely no room to talk dude. That isnt even close to boring! repeating the same note over and over again during pomp and circumstance (grad song for those who don't know) is a boring part in and of itself; playing it 6 freaking times without stopping is agony.

Also, the reason that these were written were for a couple reasons. First, Henry Fillmore played the trombone as one of his instruments. Also, these characteristics, of which there are 15, were designed to lampoon the "antics" of African American minstrel shows of tin-pan alley at the turn of the 20th century. A rather racist fact, but true nonetheless. In other words, these compositions can be seen as some of the first jazz, along with ragtime, etc.
Actually, to be historically correct, when these 15 Fillmore "characteristics" were written, the trombone was well established as a brass band, military band, and orchestral instrument, as it has been around since at least the Renaissance. So at this time, pretty much every ensemble had a trombone section.
There only is one trombone part, at least as Henry Fillmore wrote it. He wrote rags that featured a solo trombone. As the instrument was newly invented at the time, the idea of a trombone section hadn't really occurred yet. Most bands had a single of each instrument anyway. Other bands have arranged some of his popular rags with trombone harmony, though.
