  • Badass.

  • For once Rich has stuck to the brief. Does actually sound like Aphex doing NIN. So dark and awesome. Thanks.

  • cool story bro.

  • Ive heard a lot of people talk about what the track makes them think of. They're all good but for me its like a viking longboat coming out of the mists. Damp..menacing..Silent. Love it :) RDJ for ever!

  • wow, amazing

  • @TheCIAsucks nine inch nails gave him a song to remix for their album but he thought it was shit so just gave him this... completely his song

  • Alien Technology. Reverse Engineering. Ancient gravity weapons.

That is what this sounds like.

  • @TropicalConfederate haha brilliant

  • @TropicalConfederate

Yes. And HR Giger paintings, too. :)

  • maybe the singer of the nails blows the horn

  • It was my favorite track on Further Down the Spiral. My introduction to Aphex Twin.

  • @Narajah same here

  • ƝŀИ †ƜĺȠ

    Ah, so happy.

  • i think i heard this Top Gear once

  • This track is a cover of Coil by Richard D. James for Nine Inch Nails. That's ALL it is.

  • @MBratifisch1 No, it's a track by Richard D. James, named after a Coil track presumably because Trent is a big Coil fan.

The only have the same name, any resemblance is superficial.

  • @TimeForBold - Well, I don't know, but honestly, I think the resemblamce is more than superficial. Have you listened to the Coil's track with the same name? The synth part on Aphex Twin's is almost the same on that Coil's track.

  • @MBratifisch1 Yeah I love the Coil track, but both song's melodic qualities are relatively minimalistic, could they not just be different chords assembled in a coincidentally similar way? They are similar sounding though and you have made wonder.

I'm also cautious though because Aphex Twin has claimed to have submitted original tracks for remix jobs and having them submitted, so who knows really...

  • The story I heard behind this song is that the original is Coil, R.D. James remixed it, and turned it into this (this is obvious, it's just sampled, slowed down, and drums added). Then Trent asked him to remix/produce a NIN song, so he gave him this. The whole thing was Richard making a joke, imo.

  • I like the 7 minute version better

  • I heard this on a NIN album and played it over and over again and thought it was Trent the whole time. 3 year later and 3 years of listening to Aphex twin did I discover I was listening to him sooner then I thought I did.

  • i dont disagree that he cant write his own music he just cant get it on a selling album hense putting it on a nin album

  • @fredrichards66 That's the most ridiculous comment I've ever read.

    You silly, silly person.

  • I love this... "song" (if we can call it that), since i was a child. Just for disscussing: I know it's by AT, but it appears in an Ep of NIN... Why it's that so? Did Reznor had anything to do whith the track itself? It makes no difference, I know, but, who is the author?? (Sorry my english, not native tongue)

  • @ArkanhellMagno This is a Reznor track remixed by Richard

  • @xmfdibujito this has nothing to do with reznor this is an original aphex song

  • @hotchocolate801 Youre right, I have the CD, and always thought it was a remix like the others

  • @xmfdibujito glad to help haha

  • @hotchocolate801

It has something to do with Reznor, he put it on his record. He just didn't write it....RDJ did.

  • @mistamuthafuka i meant that reznor didnt write it

  • @LivingGiant......watch Uylises 31 episode 25 "The Lotus Eaters" that could well be the machine you describe ha ha..... :D .....check the story it will not disappoint when you consider it's a kids cartoon from 1980 it's rather deep. (french & japanese what a combo!)

  • Sounds like my grandmothers nebulizer at night while shes sleeping

  • dude should be makin music for games

  • TRENT AND AFX WORKED TOGETHER HERE.WORKED WELL ID SAY

  • Afraid of monters ! :D

  • this isn't NIN? Oh man. That little fact makes this a much better track.

  • He did create 4 originals with this album

  • Comment removed

  • It's actually a pretty well known fact that Richard just sent some music he had lying around to Trent Reznor and didn't even listen to the tapes that were sent to him. He hated Nine Inch Nails but wanted the cash. If you think this is a remix of NIN, then tell me what song he's remixing? Look at the CD case: all the other songs have a remix name that links them to their original song. This does not. Plus, it sounds NOTHING like anything from Downward Spiral.

    I like NIN but this isn't Trent's.

  • @sonicdeath10 ede

  • @kylehyde87 Sooorry!!! My fault!

    5. «At the Heart of It All, Created by Aphex Twin» created for a NIN´s remix album (further dawn the spiral)(edit)

  • lol everytime i watch a video i swear theres always someone arguing. good times.

  • why is it when i hear this i think to myself this should have been used in james camerons terminator !

  • @LiNaK37 Go fuck your father, waste of fucking sperm.

  • @tigeroo25 Well gee, maybe you wouldn't be getting so riled up if you weren't leaving comments containing complete lies on videos now would you? Go get educated please. I don't have the time to talk to people with nothing but gravel in their heads. Bye bye, sweetie pie :D

  • @LiNaK37 Wahh wahh wahh you sound like a fucking bitch. No one gives a fuck about your opinion - trust me. I don't give a flying fuck who remixed it. It is still NIN. Cunt. ;)

  • @tigeroo25 Opinion? It's called a fact. Fact being this is an Aphex Twin tune. Not a NIN tune. Me - 1 You - 0

  • @tigeroo25 you re wrong this is actually aphex twin

  • @tigeroo25 and i give a fuck about what LiNaK37 said. you piss off

  • Sounds cool. :)

  • this is just genius. I love it

  • Man that is EPIC

  • deep within the subconious, the mind is what we use for judgments, nuerological cells and brain matter tht make up who we are and what we think.impulses tht compels motor movement throughout the body.when taken over by a supernatural force our judgment can be hijacked for paranormal purposes.some say the soul is in the brain, others say it is our room to contemplate eerie ideas for pleasure...............

  • Can anyone tell me of any Industrial music like this? More metallic and less electronic? All I can find is computer-generated electric sutff I dont want to find.

  • @Tekar111 Most likely you're finding Post Industrial bands (the industrial dance music), I'd suggest Coil (my favorite band), Skinny Puppies and Throbbing Gristle (the first Industrial band).

  • @Isosyth Agree with all of your recommendations.

  • @Tekar11 nine inch nails : )

  • It's a cover of a song originally performed by Coil. Arguing over whether it's a NIN or an AT song proves you know nothing of the history of industrial or electronic music.

  • @mechanizedman4368 no one gives a fuck

  • Who heard this from Afraid of Monster: Director's cut?

  • @ElliFong

    I did.

  • @ElliFong me :3

  • @ElliFong Same here.....Creepy, isn't it?

  • @ElliFong Me. Graet music !

  • @ElliFong i heard it on AoM DC your not alone brotha

  • they used this song on top gear when the bob sled and the evo raced down the hill in finland or norway,or somewhere cold like that

  • shut up retards!!!

  • Inception.

  • on the album 26 mixes for cash - created for a Nine Inch Nails remix album by aphex twin

  • This reminds me of Quake so fucking Whucking MUCH !

  • @Spartan117A1 well trent reznor of NIN make quake soundtrack

  • @Andrash88 Exactly :D

  • Absolutely terrifying song. Terrifying.

  • This definitely made me afraid of monsters o_o

  • ....sorry kids...this is 100% Aphex Twin - I remember reading an article about this - Richard James owed Trent a remix for his "Further Down The Spiral" Remix and the courier was literally at the door to pick it up - Richard James handed the courier something he was working on - so no - it's not a remix of anything - sorry to burst your bubble - NIN couldn't create anything this good anyways...

  • @sillabyss666 ventolin!!

  • Yes, Trent Reznor asked to do this track for NIN remix album, and it is done by AT, yet it is a remake of Coil track (the band that had the greatest influence on Trent Reznor and also did remixes for NIN and also was supposed to release an album on Nothing, but said NO to Trent after recording a demo and deeming it will be too commercial to them (COIL never ever released anything that seemed too comercial to them)).

  • This IS a remake of the Coil (UK; a great influence on Trentn Reznor/NIN) track "At The Heart Of It All" from their debute album "Scatology" 1984. Just listen to one after another in chronogical order and you will see it by yourself.

  • This IS Aphex Twin. I've listened to enough of his music to believe it.

  • Love this!

  • I didn't know this was originally Aphex twin. Cool to Imagine how this album came about, in the midst of the selfdestruct tour. This album is really for big NIN fans, and y'all know what i mean when i say this album is just so deeper than TDS, course TDS is way more boss than probably any other NIN album, after 9 years I can never which i like more of the discography. LONg LIVE Industrial.

  • Hey retards, this is a track off of Mixes for Cash. It's a "mix". Hence, it's not his original. If anyone questions the ability of James to write his own music, then they are seriously fucked in the head.

  • @TheCIAsucks I,v nothing to do with retards ,anyhow you are right about Mixes for Cash excuse me fore this .I was more familiar with Coil about this song.I enjoy the Burroughs readings on your channel.THX

  • @TheCIAsucks

Except four of the songs on that album (including this one) were not re-mixes. James claims never even to have heard the album that this was supposedly re-mixing. (And indeed it sounds nothing like anything off of the Downward Spiral).

  • @TheCIAsucks "At the Heart of It All" is an Aphex Twin track that appears on Further Down the Spiral. Along with "The Beauty of Being Numb", it is not a remixed track from The Downward Spiral like the other tracks on Further, but was created directly for the album by Aphex Twin.

    nope it's original

  • @TheCIAsucks It's an original piece by RDJ.

  • @TheCIAsucks

Might be off of the remix for cash record, but according to multiple sources he wrote the song and Trent put it on the record. So...not a remix, I guess?

  • @TheCIAsucks

    truth

  • Half-life 2, Aliens, Science, Secret.

  • This is NOT Aphex Twin.

    It's NIN.

  • @tigeroo25

Actually it's NIN covering a song by Coil and then remixed by Aphex Twin.

  • Quite possibly my favorite Aphex Twin track ever.

  • hey this is not aphex twin!!!

  • @JohnnyCagePro Yes, it is.

  • for me, it sounds like a track from half life

  • @schwagier It was used in the mod Afraid of Monsters DC

  • Actaully - it sounds more like the sountrack from one of the Shiya Tsukamoto TETSUO films. Anyone know if this has anything at all to do with Coil's track 'At the Heart Of It All'? off of the Scatology album?

  • @thewilberforces It is believed that this was somewhat inspired by that track

  • War of the Worlds sampled methinks...

  • what's great for me is this came out b4 lord of the rings(movie that is), on dark nights i would sit at the gate to mordor and listen to this.ever since the world found it fashionable though..it not as dark and quiet as it used to be.

  • When I first heard this off "Further Down The Spiral" back when I was 15 years old (in late 1995) I was just SPELLBOUND - and no, not in the Paula Abdul way (<--only my gen will get that double-entendre, btw). This track immediately became my stoner song, as well as "The Downward Spiral (The Bottom)" off the same album (FDTS). If it wasn't for this song on NIN's Halo 10 vols. 1 & 2, I would have NEVER stumbled across Aphex Twin!! ..Okay, no, cuz I WOULDA stumbled upon em' while raving in 96'!!

  • This reminds of being robbed in Holland, and when the songs turns peaceful that is like when some people came to help me

  • this tune is damn amzing thank you for posting it

  • love this, got it on repeat for the 5th time round...

  • I does sound like a mixture of the two. Some of Aphex's clinking sounds from Ventolin are present, but the overall structure sounds somewhat more conventional like an NIN piece. Cool stuff. Too bad they don't collaborate more.

  • Roach boom, cheeeeeee-enit. Roach boom. tseeee-enit.

  • I so love it, it was the first track I've ever heared of NIN and Aphex Twin

  • Sounds like something that would be in the oddworld series.

  • decent!

  • @L0rM I will admit, this did make me think of an apocalyptic scene and the NIN Remix Year Zero remix made me think of a monstrous mechanical creature with twisting gears and cogs as a body. It's amazing what images ambient sounds like this can do to one's imagination, ain't it? :D

  • @UnitedDiscord It sure is!

  • @UnitedDiscord I dont hear anything but thoughts.

  • This song makes me think of a big, hissing, throbbing human heart composed of bits of scrap metal and human tissue.

  • @L0rM yeh, just had a wack

  • hearing damage

  • I need to agree with both pogofied and icylic. I'm sure AFX was aware of Coil, and the track title, but this is obviously an original work, definitely not a cover or reimagining of the Coil track. Both are tremendous, why settle for one?

  • This song reminds me of the end of a long, bad, nightmarish acid trip then seeing a dark room with a wooden floor with several staticy TVs on it displaying names.

It may be a bit influenced though...

  • @TwosComplement Quite influenced, I feel the same way x)

  • @ilcylic: i understand, i was just saying soundwise I didn't think so but since i have two people telling me otherwise, i guess. :)

  • Wow. Dark, dark, dark like a lot of Aphex Twin's amazing music. With some songs there is a "dance" or an "acapello" version, I love how RDJ just blows your mind and creates an almost entirely new sound and song.

  • To me, this song makes me think of some huge twisted machine deep in the bowels of the earth forever working at an infernal forge, hammering away and building something sinister, with lava splashing and flowing all around, steam and smoke...

  • @LivingGiant YA! what you said!!!!!

  • @LivingGiant ... and for Me its just a Heartbeat ;]

  • @LivingGiant reminds me of war of the worlds

  • actually it is a remix of coil's at the heart of it all

  • @moshpete67 i'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the coil song even though they share song titles.

  • @pogofied listen closer....

  • @pogofied Why? Coil worked with NIN on the "Fixed" EP, as well as the "Further Down the Spiral" album, which this piece is from. It's hardly inconceivable that they might be related.

  • Thanks to NiN for creating a medium for AT to bust out a power industrial tech track on a major label. (I should have deleted this comment) At the mofakkin heart of it all really. Is not that where it is. Fuck the distro, fuck the label. Listen, banging on tubes with oxy release is simple. There is meaning, and so deep... yet all I hear is everything. Deep peace. Everything.

  • When i hear this track i always imagine sun becoming a red gaint and scoruches all life on earth and will eventually comsume the plant.Imagine seeing the sun fill the sky and everthing around you melting,That what i see

  • @somespongebobfan yea the satisfaction That youve completed an Ending without a Fatal Heart-attack

  • that´s oldschool industrial!!! that´s the way, ahaha, i like it..... :-D

  • I love how there is a webcomic based off of this song.

  • this was used in the soundtrack for a horror game called Afraid of Monsters, look it up on youtube

  • So... This song owes NOTHING to the song "At The Heart of It All" by COIL?

  • Comment removed

  • @chronosynclastc can't argue against that! I'm sure you have heard the original, and it is a wonderfully disturbing song.

  • Comment removed

  • I think of a world much like half life 2. A sad, broken culture overseen and overridden by a foreign, domineering, and industrialized force that will surely eradicate any past they once had.

  • lol well actually this was used in the OST of a half life 1 mod :P

  • it reminds me of getting the bus

  • this is amazing at the end

  • the droning in this reminds me of Lord of the rings

  • Sounds perfect for a game like Fallout 3 or other apocalyptica games

  • idk what the fuck u all are tralking about. all i know is this is kool as hell

  • The 'Twin' is a God

    Trent is a 'Reason'

This track is a perfect meeting of the two.

  • I like the industrial feel of this song. More songs like this?

  • THIS IS NINE IN NAILS NOT APHEX TWIN AT ALL!!! blahblahblah lol

  • holy shit this is awesome! it sounds like you are standing in a lonely industrial park or something, massive metal cranes sway overhead while towering chimneys spew an inky smog.

    a very powerful song indeed,

  • this kinda reminds me of metal gear solid

  • This was the first song I ever heard by Aphex Twin on the NIN Further Down The Spiral CD in 95. Then I got the Trance Europe X-Press CD compilation CD With Aphex Twin's Analogue Bubblebath 3 song on it. Been a fan ever since.

  • remaftp Richard D James wanted to tour with NIN and this along with another RDJ track are both on a NIN record. they aren't remixes either. so no, that rumor of him never listening to/not liking NIN is complete bollocks.

Also it was Trent's label (Nothing Records) who distributed the entire WARP catalog in America so there ya go, you learn something new every day.

  • please visit my videos!

  • Its all Aphex. Pretty sure Richard D hates NIN and that was partly his source material for his mockery of aggro goth shit in Come To Daddy (the other part is The Prodigy, natch).

  • This is Aphex Twin. Heard is in a interview where they were talking about RDJ and his music. I never heard anything about NIN but this is deffinately Aphex Twin.

  • anyone who thinks this is not aphex twin is a fucking moron or else has a shittily labeled mp3 and never bought the album. anyway its a classic tune!

  • Look at the fine print on the disc.... some of the trax are by coil and some by aphex... I like NIN, but when I noticed that "their" best trax were produced by other artists, I felt much more interested in those other artists. :D

  • oh my god...hahhhhhhhhhhhhh...sublime

so glad to hear this_eyes closed.

  • the only thing that save his NIN it's a song from another guy huahauh

  • IDM anthem

  • This is very good brainmusic.

Orbital has also good stimulating brainmusic.

  • Gonna be honest, i had a long playlist going and once when i woke up in the middle of the night it was still on and this song was going, i thought i was in a horror movie lolz

  • I was about 8 years old when i heard this music first.... It was so scary, that i won't sleep next 2 nights... Now i'm 16 and i enjoy this music...

  • trent reznor is a groundbreaking artist. Aphex is as well and this collaboration is a sweet mix

  • Fan boy :D haha

  • @xxverde : Easy, man : the 1 musta fucked the other in the a, and apparently the baby's beautiful ! lol

  • Money

  • @xxverde Actually I believe that this isn't even a remix. I think it's just some stuff that he submitted as a NIN song to make money. "26 mixes for cash" it was called right?
