Lovely car, inside and out. However, the exhaust hanging out the back looks like a bad plumbing job. It's a distraction. Clean that up by hiding it up and out of the way, and the car is perfect.
My very first car was a Mirage, with red interior, I bought brand new in 1977. I worked as a welder in my senior year of high school and saved for a down payment. Unfortunately I couldn't buy it until about two months after graduating. After 2 months the front wheel bearings and spindles had to be replaced. After 5 months, the fuel gauge, and a couple other gauges/ instruments went out. Even though, mechanical wise, it was a POS, the Mirage looked cool and was very fun to drive. Miss it.
Very rare. My first car was a new 1979 Dark Blue Metallic Chevy Monza Hatchback with the 3.2 liter V6. Traded it in 1989----and regretted getting rid of it almost from day one. In 2009, I found another 1979 Dark Blue Metallic Monza hatchback on E-Bay, this time with the 305 V8---it's in my driveway now. Based on the Vega----but these Monzas were terrific cars, along with the Starfire, Skyhawk and Sunbird, '75-'80.
I bought a Monza Mirage brand new in 1977, from Merrolis Chevrolet in Detroit. Only one they had right out of the showroom floor. What fond memories, I later put a Target Master 350 engine in it, cam, dual exhaust, glass packs, eldenbrock with Holley 650 spreadbore, it came with a 4 speed, posi-rearend. Installed Turbo finned rims, what a screamer. I could smoke the tires in 4th gear with 4 people in the car.
That is GORGEOUS!! I'm not hate'n but have to agree with a few posters about the exhaust tips. Cut'em back some so you don't trip on them, I don't think the factory built them like that.
I had a 1977 Monza Spyder white with black trim, tarantula emblems and decal on the hood, creeped my mother out since she hated spiders. Only have 2 photos of it but at least I have the pix's!
yea i agree i almost bought one of these factory v8 for 200 bucks in 2001. but i didnt because i didnt know too much about them. now id kill to get one. any ideas where to find a factory v8 one in new england please lett me know. yours sounds sweet and looks sweeter. very nice car. i think their misunderstood cars they are actually great drag cars. and yours is proof they can look sweet done up.thanx for sharing
All of the ones made and sold before Jan. 77 were all with red interiors and only came with automatics. after Jan 77 the were made in several colors and interior color, also 4 speeds were available
I had one from 79 until about 85 after an accident. Didn't know haw rare they were at the time or I would have kept it and restored it. I got it from a relief pitcher from the Atlanta Braves, Max Leon, friend of my dad, he was tired of getting speeding tickets. It was a blast to drive. It was unibody, and I remember it split around the front suspension after taking a dip too hard in San Fran, had to get it welded. The stripes were decals, were peeling off towards the end too.
I have one of these cars and am the original owner. It has not been ran for around 15 years. Everything on the car is original. Does anyone know what it would be worth or if there is any interest in it?
OH MY GOSH! I can't believe I found this. This was my first car when I turned 16. If I remember right, it was used as the 1976 Indie Pace Car. I remember my Dad getting mad everytime the spark plugs needed changing. The engine had to be lifted out of the car to change them. Thanks for posting. Your car looks great! Brought back many great memories for me.
Holy cow that thing is mint condition. I owned one in the early 80's. for a car that so few were built. nice to see someone restore one and keep it factory. I had fun changing that driver side spark plug. had to remove motor mount, power steering pump and jack it up to change it. was the first car I owned with factory AC to. makes me feel old, oh wait, I am old
the best sexy and sporty cars of the 70-s era. Ive had spiders, buick skyhawks, 2+2 , i had one with a smallblock chevy 400. Thanx a million and now i have it as a favorite. Please take good car of that car, your one lucky person.
Beautiful job. I owned one, with a red interior, until a drunk ran a stop sign and hit me broadside. Turned it into a "U" shape, and totaled it, while I was sitting still.
