i was fortunate enough yo see these guys in concert this summer. It was 1hr and 45min of pure fun. They are 1 of the few bands who gives 110% at their concerts. I love these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember this cut. Loved it. Even though by this time they weren't rockin' the classic EWF sound. But then again, I could listen to Maurice and Philip sing Happy Birthday and I'd be as happy as a pig in slop...lol
whoa! i still remember this tune being danced at penthouse live on tv by jojo alejar & his group tigers in the 80's. great memories & great dance tune!
powerlight isnt one of EWF's best albums but it does have some good tracks on it. The last couple of albums may be slighty more synthesised but the horns, bass and guitar are all there. This is a good track but doesnt compare with their best...still underpar ewf is still 100 times better than most other artists!
Thanks for answering. I don't think it is Roland Bastita because it just doesn't sound like him but I don't really know. Someone told me it was Carlos Rios?
Well, it might be. I don't really know 100% either, but I am just going by the time period because Roland rejoined them around that time that the song came out. But it might be Carlos Rios. I don't know who that is, though. Anyway, nice song, huh?
Roland Bautista played that solo without doubt! His sound & style. I first heard this solo on Japanese pressed cd which I bought in Tokyo. Not a classic EW&F album by their standards, I was dissappointed when I first heard this on vinyl release. Fall In Love With Me is the obvious standout track alongside Side By Side. How we missed Al McKay & Johnny Graham's contributions to the 'Fire' sound. The band's songwriting has also fallen mostly to Maurice White.
I agree with you-the great albums were in the mid seventies climaxing for me in the great I AM album some of the best soul music in the last fifty years and then Faces which is a good album with some really great tracks.
@bernieplop Yep, "Faces" is a forgotten gem. Had it on 8-track when it came out in 1980. (Double LP.) Columbia dropped it as a disco record, which it isn't, but it still hit the Top 10, the last EWF album to do so. "Faces" is long out of print, so if you can find it used on cassette or LP, do yourself a favor. "Let Me Talk," "Song In My Heart," "Sailaway," "And Love Goes On," "Win or Lose," "In Time"... good Lord, it's wall-to-wall classics.
Doesn't sound Batista style to me either, so I wouldn't be surprised occasional EWF member and accomplished guitarist/composer Bernard "Beloyd" Taylor played the solo in this extended version. I honestly pay more attention to Verdine's nasty bass licks.
And Carlos Rios certainly did not record Powerlight.
They are the bomb!!!!!

I meant to say that I believe that Roland Bautista is playing the guitar solo. He rejoined them in the early 80's. This is to awewrang's question.
