and yeah if you read the bill carefully, they charge you ALOT without health insurance coverage or worse, some hospitals are private and need you to get health insurance or they will send you to a general hospital where its always crowded and take too long. I did my internship at a mental hospital in NM. They started a state socialized system at the main hospital which included us. In 2 years we went from immediate treatment of seriously mentally ill to making paranoid schizophrenics wait 10+ months for an inital appt then 6+ months for followups. I was planning on working there but I couldn't work in that disaster. People were not being treated like humans. Docs run full speed from those situations because you can't treat your patients.

My point is that insurance is A BIT helpful but not alot. I am a socialist and i have to agree with you that this idea isnt perfect but it does help average joes like myself. That is overly idealistic. It take 10 yrs of school. Many people in med school share apartments with several people, eat whatever they can get their hads on ect ect. Point is, it is a huge effort. It deserves significant compensation. Money is a factor period. Between tax increases and proposed cuts in current compensation, earning potential will be cut by 30 to 40% more in people that see lots of medicare/cade patients. It's a factor. People will retire early, quit, do cash only practice.

I am not against making changes, it is just that what is currently proposed is not a good solution. It is clearly designed to take over everything. While I wouldn't really be for it, I wouldn't be vehiamently against a program for the poor or the young not yet making good money that you MUST qualify for. Businessmen are much less likely to take bold steps to bring about more job creation and growth with regime uncertainty. Even Henry Morgenthau pretty much admitted in his journal/diary in the late 30s the New Deal didn't really work. And besides, I highly doubt most of the gov't jobs gave people much more money than they could've found in the market otherwise, and they probably didn't spend much in a downturn anyhow, so growth would be slow.

The stimulus, even if it could work, will be extremely slow in stimulating any real growth. There are far more and better ways to stimulate job creation than having the gov't give money to companies and gov't initiatives to hire people. We already tried this stimulus bullcrap in the New Deal!! And it DIDN'T WORK! Sure, millions of people were employed in things like the WPA, but REAL unemployment was still 15% by the start of ww2.

Gov't bureaucracies are slow. Everyone knows that. I highly doubt they'll create 3-4 million jobs by the end of next year. The only way they'll do that is a LOT of people apply in a short timeframe. But that seems unlikely, considering that I doubt many people are clamoring to work on alternative energy technology who are unemployed. Like I'd give up a job or future job working at IT making 80 grand to work on ethanol. come on

Let's remember this: We got out of the early 80s and 90s recessions WITHOUT any so-called stimulus. In just a few years!  We got out of Bush's recession in just a year! Sure, his was a "jobless" boom, but there was still growth.

Sorry, your facts are wrong. Unemployment was 25% (on average) when FDR assumed office in 1933, and as high as 80% in many urban areas. In 1941, before the start of the war, unemployment was down to 9%.

The 1981 recession started when the Fed jacked interest rates up to 18% and ended when they lowered them again. Since interest rates are currently less than 1% you can hardly use the same trick.

1. My source was the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. (1940-14%, pre-war 1941-9.66%) If you look up "the Great Depression "on Wikipedia the Bureau's statistics can be seen in a figure in graphical form.

2. 1920 was not a deep recession. (Again, an Austrian School falsehood.) Unemployment was never above 8% (you can refer to the same figure, since it shows the data from 1910.)

3. The recovery pause of 1937 happened when FDR CUT BACK on New Deal spending under pressure from conservatives.
