Final Cut Studio is not used by the pros making big blockbuster movies. Final Cut Pro, however, is a little. But Avid is used a lot more. And after effects and photoshop are a must for making movies.

Final Cut Studio is a pack with software for video/audio editing for the mac. The main video editing software included (and the near-equivalent of Express) is Final Cut Pro . I have the version 10 of Roxio Creator Suite. Video Wave is very good. I wish it didn't have so many problems, and didn't keep freezing on me. Aist MediaLab is also a verygood software. Version 3 only cost $10!!! It can do compositing, special effects, everything that movie maker does except better. Multiple video and audio tracks. Animation too! It rocks

I've had no experience with either of the adobe or vegas. Avid is a pretty steep learning curve, but as with any program of this nature - you'll have the basics down within a couple of hours just using the program.

As for why it's the best, all I can say is this. It works, and it works incredibly well. Very rarely crashes, and it does what you expect it to, when you tell it to.

it comes with a lot of effects etc.

Also, it's used in 90% of film and TV post for a reason...

I picked up MAGIX Movie Edit Pro free after rebates. It is a nice piece a software. I was using Pinnacle studio before but after useing MaGIX Movie Edit Pro I dont want to go back to Pinnacle. The software has almost everything you could ask for it can do chroma key(green screen) and lots of other stuff. Max of 16 video tracks.

I love adobe products. Photoshop is the best and will always be the best. Premiere PRO is awesome. And After Effects is a very neat (hard to learn) product. I can't believe everyone here is shooting down adobe they must just be amateurs. I tried vegas but was severely unimpressed. And Final Cut Pro is exactly the same as Premiere. Sorry but I have to stick up for adobe (somewhat) Oh and CyberLink sucks I have to use that to get video from my Hard drive camcorder.

The only good things that Adobe puts out are Photoshop and After Effects. And even those aren't worth the price. Final Cut Express is the same as After Effects basically, but it's also a full fledged video editor, and GIMP is 99.5% Photoshop and it's free. As for Premiere... iMovie + Jahshaka > Premiere. I tried Premiere and it sucked.

AE 7 is so worth the money.... It depends what kind of work is needed for your project. If TV networks and large post production house's used both AE and photoshop Im sure its worth the measly dollars. If anyone wants to work in graphics for tv or film you have to learn after effects/ shake or what ever.
