just saying look at the crash site - littered with full equipment, and everything practically in shape not disintergrated - that is why Flight 93 was a fake
i was there in view of the park the morning that plane crashed. i was on the east side of the park and saw the whole thing. I havent flown in or out of the co spgs airport since. that is the most vivid memory i have to this day. 20 years later
a windshear of 50kts is ridiculous, even for the most massive planes. it's enough so that one second you are straight and level and the next you are dropping out of the sky. As a student pilot i can't imagine why they would not deviate to another airport. Experience is good but it breeds over-confidence.
wish I go back there to the plane crash on that day and put flowers and candles for those peoples life and for there family...... Can say that I have nightmares since 7 1/2 years old of that day....... If people really want to know were I live at was on Metropolitan St. and Eliot Ave.
The controller shouldn't have let them land. I don't know of they embellished this or not, but 50 knots is WAY too much wind shear. That's enough to instantly stall it or push it into overspeed. If it is true, then the pilots should have opted to hold or return to Denver.
@kingsharkoon why use a large jet aircraft for a small flight? its like using buses in the place of taxis... on paying passenger... 50 empty seats... makes no sense
@fitzroyvictoria Sometimes there's no other plane available so... what should you do? Anyway I don't think the CRJ for example would be that much more profitable than a 737NG (I know in video a 732)... Also maybe they tried to offer maximum capacities on everytime they fly to have as much as possible transferpassengers. They'd their reasons for sure. Airline business isn't that easy than you think! :P

I wouldn't fly on any of the 737 200 series because the engine is too small, the wings are small and the yawn sucks, so if you ever go with the 737, make shure its the 300 series or newer.
about 6 weeks ago i was on a southwest 737-300 and all of the souden it went BOOM and the plane jerked to the right and stalled it felt like. and people were screaming so was i. it was scary
would you black out from the dive G force before you actually hit the ground? or would you be conscious all the way up till impact? ive always wondered what it would feel like to be in a situation like this, and obviously we will never know FOR SURE seeing as know one could survive a nose dive like this... but you think a person would still feel pain for a couple seconds before death? or would it be over all to quick?
It will be 18 years on March 3rd. I was on duty at Security Fire Dept Station 3 when this crash happened. My unit arrived on scene within minutes of the crash. My image appears in this video as a lone firefighter standing near the edge on the burn area. I still have nightmares about it.
I fly into Denver and the Springs all the time. I never have a smooth landing due to the mountain wind!! Always very bumby!! God bless these people ant the families!
First of all, why do you need to FLY from Denver to Colorado Springs? Are people in Colorado too lazy to DRIVE? And for that matter, why would you need a 737 for TWENTY PASSENGERS?!!!!
Al Gore would be crapping hot coals if he learned about this...
Ok, but still why would you need a 737 for 20 passengers? Wouldn't a smaller jet be more economical? It's not like they were transporting a sumo wrestling team. Now THAT might require a 737!
That airline must've had a terrible market research team back then.
I feel sorry for anyone who died in UA Flight 585. I will say this...as an United customer, if I wind up in an accident, I will really hate United Airlines. That will be my last thoughts before my death, besides fear alone.
What I am wondering is, could the plane have decended into one and could it have caused damage enough to the plane to cause the accident? The video made it seem like there was some sort of wind phenomena going on is why I ask. I'm very curious now and I will get back to you with more info asap. :)
There is one thing that we might consider about the region in which this took place also. In Colorado Springs we get these things called chinooks. You can look up what they are but for more detailed info, but imagine a really nasty, sharp, cutting wind that comes and goes very suddenly. I have heard alot of stories of people being picked up and moved a couple feet from these things, and that is at ground level.
I might be able to provide some insight. I live in Colorado Springs, have my whole life. In fact, I lived in the apartment complex that was very near to the crash site. I moved into it about 2 years or so after the crash, when I was eight. The suburb that it occured is called Widefield and at the time my Uncle was the fire chief there. He was actually one of the firt people on scene after the crash occured....
I think it was because of the rotary tail fin blade or something, it broke off and that caused it to lose control; you cant fly without the tail fin. I think that's why it lost control and nose dived into the Earth.

I think it was because of the rotary tail fin blade or something, it broke off and that caused it to lose control; you cant fly without the tail fin. I think that's why it lost control and nose dived into the Earth.

all because of the 737's faulty design of teh servo valve for the rudder PCU. 2 more 737s crashed in a same way due to that component.
