God created science, so how can the creation be greater than the Creator? God created all of us, again I ask the same question: how can the creation be greater than the Creator?
Why so many argue that faith is not compatible with science: science is a system of discovering reality without relying on guesses with no proper reasoning. One can actually do both, but one can't be willing and able to apply their skeptical-until-a-reason-is-given scientific reasoning to religion and actually still be a theist. You have to be the kind of person who understands why science works the way it works and how it limits faulty conclusions, but still decide to make one.
Science and religion just don't fare well together. They dispute one another left, right and center, but some have found their own balance between the two. Personally, I think its just silly to incorporate religion and science. Science is based on fact, religion on belief. They simply contest each other too often to be sensibly combined. I personally categorize religion very loosely under history. It tends to produce less contradictions.
I suggest Dr. Eugenie to read the latest book by Stephen Hawking, THE GRAND DESIGN, in which he explains why the theory of God, any God, is wrong because quantum physics proves that for the creation of this and millions of other universes no God is needed. The believe in God is for ignorant people, is like when some humans, long time ago, believed in the rain god because they did not understand the water cycle, now that god is gone.
You should read The Quran...the Quran details the big bang, the expansion of the universe, and well over 1,000 scientific topics, a good 1,000-1,400 years before science/man discovered these things, & even before there were those fields of study.
@ndrthrdr1 Correction: The Bible is wrong...about the age of the universe. Keep in mind the Bible was written nearly 2000 years ago. I don't think it should be regarded as scientific text, since it predates most significant scientific discoveries. However, it is an excellent work of art and literature that can offer insight into philosophy, morality, and the nature of humanity.
If something cannot be falsified then it cannot be scientifically tested, but it is illogical to accept it as true on the basis that it cannot be proven true or false. Where something's truth is indistinguishable from its falsehood, the correct response is to reject it until it we can shed some light. There are an infinitely large number of unfalsifiable/untestable claims we can make, many of them are going to contradict one another.

Don't watch this video. I will answer the question right now, "is science compatible with religion".
In science, when people tend to disagree with something, they come out with their own theories disproving it, and if they have enough evidence, their theory is deemed to be correct and people take interest in it.
In religion, you cannot disagree with anything that God says, because He said so. You cannot disprove some part of the Bible, simply because the Bible says that it is 100% true.
Science and Religion are compatible. For example, Isaac Newton's discovery was inspired by Christianity and God. Most things in the past were inspired by Religion.
@HybridD91 I can only speak about Catholicism, but Catholicism does support sources of knowledge other than the Bible. It's fundamentalist Protestantism that refers only to the Bible. And unfortunately, fundamentalist Protestantism too often stands for "religion" in the public mind.
Is the Name of the Intelligent Designer: God? Allah? Great Spirit? ... What is the name of the sun in the sky: Sun? Sol? ... The sun shines whether we give it a name or not. The universe exists whether we say its Source is Divine, or Physics' Big Bang. So will the Christians allow the Intelligent Designer to be called Allah? or Wakan Tanka? Hmmm That would be interesting!
TRUE Science and TRUE religion are not in conflict. Truth is not in conflict with itself. Science and its theories have evolved over time, casting off past notions. Intelligent religious views at least have the capacity to make sense, but are at a historical disadvantage. The Baha'i Faith strongly emphasizes science as an integral part of understanding the world. Education is an essential right, especially for girls, as women are the first educators of children. All must think
She is a bit off in this video. If someone is a theist, then that means they are making a claim that they believe something exists. We can examine what evidence that a theist could (if had any) for validity. She's wrong, if a theist says that their god mad it that way, then they should provide proof or stfu. If they have no evidence to support it, then they have no base of knowledge to claim it. Anyone who accepts such bullshit is disregarding logic and study of reality.
@ArroganceClause "We can get at truth from a lot of different perspectives, and if anything the different philosophies should COMPLIMENT each other."
While that's true, there are infinitely more ways to get falsehoods and that's the huge problem with faith based superstitions. They are not testable, and consequently, they have a chance roughly equal to 1/infinity of being right. They are just wild guesses. Even if one of them were right, they can't demonstrate effects so it's useless.
"if you measure a cow by its meat produced, or by its leather produced is either one of the measurements wrong? No."
Can you "measure" it by putting on a silly hat, bending over and yelling "Allahu Akbar" at the top of your lungs? You'd probably say no. Anyway, there's no conflict between measuring things in different ways. The problem appears when you "measure" things by guesses unrelated to reality. In short, when you're not doing science.
It is important to understand that their is a BIG, BIG difference between science and religious belief systems. Science is a tool used to solve problems. Religious belief systems are things you believe in. You don't believe in science. Instead, you use it to solve problems just like your hammer. You don't believe in your hammer, you use it to solve problems. Science and religious belief systems are completely unrelated and unfit for comparison.
Why & How ? That is not the explanation I would give ... it's all about reasoning or argument. How persuasive is your argument? Fact really don't matter .... evolution proves this. 150 year old theory a persuasion of "Faith" the scientists "Religion".
Yes. How can a belief, that makes unsubstantiated claims for itself, and tells its followers to purely accept things on faith, be compatible with a robust method designed to test what's true and what isn't?
I don't believe science and religion are truly incompatible, many genius in history were religious, like Darwin, Newton, Euler and so on. I don't think that the bible for example, is to be taken on a literal context, not at least by modern standards.
There is nothing in the Bible that says that the Grand Canyon was created by the flood. Nobody even knew about the Grand Canyon when the Bible was written, aside from Native Americans. SO WHY THE HELL ARE YOU DEBATING THAT??? The Grand Canyon was created through erosion, not the flood. This isn't even a valid argument. You don't need to be a freaking atheist to believe that.
Quite frankly people cling to religion because life is scary. It is hard for most to imagine life without a god or something to fall back on after we die.
LOL what is really funny is that she sits their in her suit looking intelligent, but is the most foolish of all unbelievers. The more an unbeliever gets higher in the so called "knowledge of evolution" the most ignorant they get. Like God says: "the most small of all believers is wiser than the most intelligent of all unbelievers". LOL!
wake up people, this is not the real issue to be dealt with! atheism doesn't have anything to do with solving any problems! does CNN report and credit any about this atheism thing? i don't think so!
god is a sociological psychological phenomena that can be studied in a scientific way. I like to compare religious hierarchy to that of alpha wolf packs, elk herds and nowadays with over population, a political taboo not to be spoken of, fruit flies in a jar and even mold in a Petri dish are valid comparisons to our culture. Nice channel my dear PL&H K
quantum physics is on the brink, give it a few decades (maybe less) and science and spirituality/religion/divinity will merge creating the greatest moment in human history
@MrBitchesnHose What you say is true, the greatest moment of spirituality/ religion/ divinity, (actually I thought divinity and religion were the same, but no matter, there is anti matter) where by Hydrogen Bombs the entire human race is annihilated will happen.
If a scientist proved they could heal all the world of cancer, but then refused to give the cure, the world would call that person EVIL. Yet the world will not investigate the scriptures in a scientific manner to end war, and suffering, so that proves that nearly the entire world is EVIL. As in the days of Noah so will be the coming of the son of man. That son of man is not Jesus, but instead the reborn apostle Peter. That is also this guy called 0099wrestler.
Science applied to the Gospels prove Jesus was not crucified, and that Jesus is not God. Science proves the gospels create on the surface reading what is called a myth story, but on deep investigation confirms the Qur'an is true. Science has proved to always save humanity from suffering, so stop being idiots, like before science came, when it comes to the Holy Scriptures.
@robocong7420 Well, thank you for reading my post. Actually, science that has no bias, proves the Qur'an is true. But, as you pointed out so well, that if you apply bias, prejudice, and so on so the data is corrupted then science proves what you say. Please continue to support my outlook.
@robocong7420 Since Muslims are behind in science, then they deny the signs of God, and they are the Kufars. Muslims today are hypocrites, and are taken by the devils, fallen angels. The Christian nations are masters of science. The Koran says they will reign over the Muslims: Quran 3:55. Jesus was a great scientist.
@MsZetta47 God made man from dirt, how come dirt doesn't turn to man today? Evolution implies ape and man have a common ancestor, not that apes evolve into men. I don't know where you got the crazy idea that anyone believes the world came from a grain of sand. That is not a view held by western science
@gorilla199uncensored I was answering MsZetta47. She asked: Science say's the earth was made by a grain of sand.If so why hasn't a grain of sand done this again??? You reffer to the bible as MY storybook, but I don't believe in the bible nor do I believe in a young creation. Dumbass, I was arguing against man comming from dirt in FAVOR of evolution. Please think before posting.
You believe in a magic man created the earth and the universe, you know a god pretender (I have seen your comments admitting this even tho you lie here and deny it)
@MsZetta47 you are painfully ignorant!! We did not come from apes, but creatures that are something like the apes of today, and then you say how come this hasnt happend again?! WTF!!!!!!! Are you actually for real, do you have the slighest clue how bloody dumb that question is!
@robocong7420 The genesis creation story is an allegorical account of cosmology. The Zohar, Jewish mystical teaching, says that we are not to take everything in the Bible literally. One example of that, the twelve tribes of Israel represent the 12 signs of the zodiac.
Yes, religion is OBVIOUSLY man made mythology. You don't have to convince me of this obvious fact. And to think the islamics are still murdering their women for "witchcraft", pathetic!
@robocong7420 Well, ahhh, the angels of God gave the religions to man, then man, some of them anyway, did the best they could to understand what they received. The best of men had angels assist them to understand the deeper aspect of religion, and the hypocrites said they had the same help.
@0099wrestler Cont: Then it is up to other humans to figure out who was rightly guided. At this time in evolution, it seems most humans have made the wrong choice. But if one uses science, without corrupted data, then the truth is so easy to see. The Truth is that Angels of God gave religion to mankind.
@0099wrestler Cont: you obviously believe in animals, plants and mineral, so why not think other beings exist higher beyond human. Scientist think that way, that if life has progressed from mineral to human, then clearly it goes higher.
in saudi arabia they sentenced a woman to death by beheading for casting a spell making some fat horny arab's penis limp. can you believe that in the year 2010 there are still savages murdering women because they are impotent?
I like the view that science is this free open and loving master whereas religion is a fascist dictator being portrayed here. It is completely silly but still quite funny. Science has shown itself to be as ruthless as any religion, how many Jews died at the hands of German experimentation during the holocaust? How many soviets died at the hands of Stalin's industrial revolution?
Religion has its demons as does science and villifying one or the other is pointless.
Science - knowledge, method of seeking knowledge. German experimentation and stalins industrial revolution were driven by sick obsession to create something. It had nothing to do with search of knowledge. You dont make sence.
If something / someone is using already discovered knowledge / technology doesnt suddenly make it science. You people should understand what youre comparing first.
@CodaCola You are confusing hypocrites, those who hate God, with what we commonly find in religion. Those hypocrites are typically Christians, and Muslims. Many that call themselves atheists, because they love to learn about nature through the use of science are closest to what the hypocrites call God.
@0099wrestler What I said may make me appear insane, but the more you understand the world God created, even if you deny God created it, then like Einstein, someday as you learn enough you will accept there is a creator. Most Bible thumpers deny science so they deny learning about God, in the end they are the true atheists.
The word "supernatural" means not in this universe. Anything which can be proven is science. Anything which can not be proven is bullshit. "Belief " is a religious word, not science. I don't hate anyone. But I know bullshit when I hear it. What happened to reality?
"athiests are hateful and emotionally-unstable people"
In my experience, People are People regardless of faith or lack thereof.
If a person takes the time, effort, and money to make and display a banner saying gays should die because their "god says" they should die, is that man any LESS hateful or LESS emotionally unstable than an Atheists?
What about 9/11? No atheists involved there...
Putting all people into one basket is a primitive "Us vs. Them" mentality. Grow up.
@AKHE1SMAN "just right"? Only ignorant people would say it's "just right" for gay people to die - especially ignorant if they think only men should be ousted for being gay. You essentially prove my point to @mutemonot that atheists are not the ones being unstable.
Thanks for replying to an 8-month old post with such drivel.
@Cradle2Venus I could say the same thing about those that keep a faith...They tend to judge you and say you are sexually immorall... That is bullshit...God should do the judging, not you...If you can't accept that, then I'm turning atheist.....
@terceldude that's exactly what i'm saying. The religious are often judgmental of others without really reflecting on themselves or practicing the teachings they purport to subscribe to. Not all mind you, I know a few that understand "what Jesus would do", and Jesus didn't kill gay people.
Questions for theist. Religion has claimed science tries to pull ppl from god, only to accept its results later. Religion has also used science to back its claims. So isn't science useful. Why not let scientists work and accept the results? Are theist afraid they will be let down by religion? Differentiate religion from god, and, science cant prove/disprove any gods existence. Religion--- wont disprove and cant prove any gods existence. So why cant the two get along? Please respond.
I believe they are afraid. Because religions work by converting people and enforcing the beliefs, its logical that those who dont agree with them use the available knowledge to refute their claims. So its pretty much in the interests of religions to stop the scientific progress so that their most recent claims wouldnt be refuted again.
That is sooo true and so many religious people don't actually study up but just believe w/out looking into it. Though the same happens for non-religous :P
I have wishie washie thoughts, I so far claim, to believe in science. Can provide facts. So far within my beliefs, Science can not prove a real event of the bible, koran, torah, And the book of morman. Especially that book. It is to me a book written by a person handed down shrooms. Not gold tablets. The gold rush began
"Are science and religion incompatible?" when religion is taken literally, HELLS YEAH! Organized religion is a harsh master and doesn't tolerate freedom in anyway shape or form. Take a look at all the proscriptions and regulations in the monotheistic texts and try to tell me that it has your best interests and freedom of heart and mind at it's core.
@gorilla199uncensored I am a believer in science, but I have to admit It all works on the preconcieved notion that all things are material and are subject to natural law. If we don't embrace this doctrine observing anything is pointless. As much proof as there is against God, there are more cases of the known laws of physics being violated. "Dark matter" and "Dark energy", the largely imaginary causes of many of these violations would compose up to 96% if they existed.
@gorilla199uncensored I'm an athiest. I'm just being fair though. Many theist are so because of personal expirience. We could still be way off, so it's silly to say things can only be the way we believe.
@gorilla199uncensored As I said, I personaly don't believe in a god, but as I said before, science all operates under the assumption that all things are subject to natural law and material. This is so observation has a purpose and end. That being said, most mass defies what we understand as the laws of physics. This can simply be an issue of unseen natural forces, but this is no different from a christian fundamentalist trying to prove man and dinosaurs coexisted. We know very little.
@gorilla199uncensored I say we don't know everything and that makes me religious? What proof have you of naturalism, which science depends on? Unless you know everything, you cannot say that it is true or false. You likewise do not know every cosmology and god concept to reject them all, much less can prove all false. Any logic you would use would be a naturalist arguement , which you cannot prove.
LOL so you want to assume little or maybe big well we have to assume every sized and type of magic men create clouds and move them and do absolutely everything, thats what you are argueing. We can see whats here in reality and prove alot of things, Its stupid to go and pretend little magic men are secretly working behind the scnece like you want to claim. You want to assume the basless absurd is true! Thats just stupid
Humans and dinosaurs, AH well ignoring the fact theres no fossil evidence to indicate this, let alone when humans evolved compared to when the dinosaurs died out.
The example was ridiculous, that was the point. Saying there is such a thing as if Dark matter or Dark energy don't exist then everything we know about gravity is a lie. But believing in Dark Matter or Dark Energy is just as ridiculous as Dinosaur people. There is no evidence. We are just speculating so that known science and theoretical science are in harmony, that is exactly what the YEC do
No evidence? Let me guess you dont have a PhD in a relivant field and are not doing research into this?
BTW GRAVITY IS THE EVIDENCE you idiot. But let me guess you want to pretend gravity is little magic men moving things? as it could be that and we cant prove the little invisable magic men arent doing it....
@gorilla199uncensored Right, I'll admit I have been a floater on the God issue, so sue me. I wasn't always an atheist and I admit there is evidence of a god that still has me scratching my head. The unexplained isn't evidence, the fact that something appears to be bound by gravity isn't proof of matter being present. That's like as stupid as the designer arguement.
LOL cheap throw away line (fr5om the bible) how can I beat that?
Oh thats right we have the masses of evidence which prove evolution is true, there was no, there was no tower of bable and the creation myth is is just a myth!
I think it needs to be more clear that they CAN be compatable, not that they ARE compatable. As long as your claims relate to a non-visible and non-testable world, science can say nothign about it. How many angels can fit on the head of a pin? Who cares.
But when you make claims about the nature of reality, that can be tested and for which there is evidence, THEN we have a problem.
It also needs to be made clear that science a is a method, where as religion is a conclusion.
These christian religions don't accept a literal Bible; they see most of it as metaphorical. Many religions have other sources for their truth: tradition, writings of other "church fathers", tea leaves, you name it.
I disagree with Zed and Grey, and Eugenie said why herself: deism - the belief that god established the universe and thereafter natural forces proceed. I don't believe in it either, but it is a valid philosophical point, because it cannot be scientifically proved or disproved. Most non-evangelistic religions start there and perhaps add a little more, about man's special place; catholicism, for example, accepts evolution, even of homo itself. Gould calls out these non-overlapping magisteria.
"the belief that god established? the universe ... is a valid philosophical point"
Without evidence, it may be a valid subject of philosophical discussion (not necessarily a "valid point" exactly), but it's not a valid factual discussion. If you want to dream a god or magic pixies created the universe, then so be it, but that doesn't begin to address whether it's true. "We don't know yet" is perfectly valid and factual.
I love & respect Eugenie to death but I disagree with the tack of both the NCSE & Dr. Scott in trying to suggest there is no conflict between religion & science. There clearly is. Biblical Genesis proposes one way for life happening while science says something completely different. If a believer cannot trust the inerrancy of biblical Genesis then what else is wrong in the bible? I think everything is wrong with it but that's just my view!
I've never understood how a scientist can have ''faith'' in a religion or a theist accept science i.e. the theories of evolution, the big bang etc.
You either grasp the reality of the world and universe around you with scientific empirical evidence OR you believe scripture is true and say ''God did it''.
She neglects to answer philosophically the issue that Christianity IS a religion of fact claims. What we know of modern anatomy and physiology says a man can't rise from the dead three days after He's dead, yet it does. This is lazy philosophy and theology and one of the reasons modern Catholic theologians tick me off, they don't carry their statements on this far enough to see where they slit their own throats.
And many founders of the Fundamentalist movement accepted theistic evolution (although many others were old-earth creationists), as did many Evangelical leaders like Billy Graham.
Modern young-earth creationism and all of its more recent descendants like creation science and intelligent design are based on Seventh-Day Adventist theology.
@Feredir28 John Paul also was against gay rights and told developing countries not to use condoms to prvent aids and hiv because of his religous beliefs
@moroney1 Very true. I just want to be clear: I am not making the claim that John Paul was a perfectly moral man. I am only making the point that evolution and religion are not incompatible.
@Feredir28 well she was talking science in general, and now that evolution has been proven the origin of the universe is up for debate with intelligent design actually being taught in some schools!!
@moroney1 more accurately, the debate for whether intelligent design is science or not is over: its not. So it if you want to debate the origin of the universe, intelligent design should not and cannot be included.
As for teaching it in schools, bad idea. ignoring that its not science, simply by its own design means teaching it violates the Establishment Clause, and thus it is unconstitutional.
@Feredir28 well i dont knowabout American law, but intelligent design is being regarded as ok throughout schools n the U.K. adn some of Ireland...wtf!
To quote Carl Zimmer: ""The scientific method does not claim that events can have only natural causes, but that the only causes that we can understand scientifically are natural ones."
The compatibility of science and religion depends on a healthy respect for the boundaries and limitations of each.

if you measure a cow by its meat produced, or by its leather produced is either one of the measurements wrong?
No.
Neither system can ever explain the cow as a whole.
I'm not saying we need both or anything but we must come to terms with the fact that accepting just one system as true never works out.
We can get at truth from a lot of different perspectives, and if anything the different philosophies should COMPLIMENT each other.

You don't believe in your hammer, you use it to solve problems. Science and religious belief systems are completely unrelated and unfit for comparison.

@robocong7420 Well, ahhh, the angels of God gave the religions to man, then man, some of them anyway, did the best they could to understand what they received. The best of men had angels assist them to understand the deeper aspect of religion, and the hypocrites said they had the same help.

Religion has its demons as does science and villifying one or the other is pointless.
thejewk1 1 year ago
Science - knowledge, method of seeking knowledge. German experimentation and stalins industrial revolution were driven by sick obsession to create something. It had nothing to do with search of knowledge. You dont make sence.

VarykGerai 1 year ago
I don't see how religion can be compatible with science. They're diametrically opposite concepts.
Science is about finding answers to questions and accepting that certain conclusions may be wrong.
Religion is about ALREADY HAVING answers to questions and NEVER admitting they're wrong, even in the face of contradicting evidence.
CodaCola 1 year ago
@CodaCola You are confusing hypocrites, those who hate God, with what we commonly find in religion. Those hypocrites are typically Christians, and Muslims. Many that call themselves atheists, because they love to learn about nature through the use of science are closest to what the hypocrites call God.
0099wrestler 1 year ago
@0099wrestler What I said may make me appear insane, but the more you understand the world God created, even if you deny God created it, then like Einstein, someday as you learn enough you will accept there is a creator.
UrDevilsAdvocate 2 years ago
the thing is that the claims of religious are beeing refuted again and again by new scientific discoveries.
VarykGerai 1 year ago
Are you saying the faithful are afraid of their religion being evaluated? Or, that science should stop looking into claims of religion?
UrDevilsAdvocate 1 year ago
I believe they are afraid. Because religions work by converting people and enforcing the beliefs, its logical that those who dont agree with them use the available knowledge to refute their claims. So its pretty much in the interests of religions to stop the scientific progress so that their most recent claims wouldnt be refuted again.

@gorilla199uncensored I am a believer in science, but I have to admit It all works on the preconcieved notion that all things are material and are subject to natural law. If we don't embrace this doctrine observing anything is pointless. As much proof as there is against God, there are more cases of the known laws of physics being violated. "Dark matter" and "Dark energy", the largely imaginary causes of many of these violations would compose up to 96% if they existed.

gorilla199uncensored 1 year ago
@gorilla199uncensored As I said, I personaly don't believe in a god, but as I said before, science all operates under the assumption that all things are subject to natural law and material. This is so observation has a purpose and end. That being said, most mass defies what we understand as the laws of physics. This can simply be an issue of unseen natural forces, but this is no different from a christian fundamentalist trying to prove man and dinosaurs coexisted. We know very little.

@gorilla199uncensored I say we don't know everything and that makes me religious? What proof have you of naturalism, which science depends on? gorilla199uncensored 1 year ago

Many religions have other sources for their truth: tradition, writings of other "church fathers", tea leaves, you name it.
puncheex 2 years ago
I disagree with Zed and Grey, and Eugenie said why herself: deism - the belief that god established the universe and thereafter natural forces proceed. I don't believe in it either, but it is a valid philosophical point, because it cannot be scientifically proved or disproved. Most non-evangelistic religions start there and perhaps add a little more, about man's special place; catholicism, for example, accepts evolution, even of homo itself. Gould calls out these non-overlapping magisteria.
puncheex 2 years ago
"the belief that god established? the universe ... is a valid philosophical point"
Without evidence, it may be a valid subject of philosophical discussion (not necessarily a "valid point" exactly), but it's not a valid factual discussion. If you want to dream a god or magic pixies created the universe, then so be it, but that doesn't begin to address whether it's true. "We don't know yet" is perfectly valid and factual.
HarshColby 2 years ago 2
I love & respect Eugenie to death but I disagree with the tack of both the NCSE & Dr. Scott in trying to suggest there is no conflict between religion & science. There clearly is. Biblical Genesis proposes one way for life happening while science says something completely different. If a believer cannot trust the inerrancy of biblical Genesis then what else is wrong in the bible? I think everything is wrong with it but that's just my view!
greyhall1 2 years ago 2
I've never understood how a scientist can have ''faith'' in a religion or a theist accept science i.e. the theories of evolution, the big bang etc.
You either grasp the reality of the world and universe around you with scientific empirical evidence OR you believe scripture is true and say ''God did it''.

The question should be "Is religion compatible with science?"
Bueller007 2 years ago 2
She neglects to answer philosophically the issue that Christianity IS a religion of fact claims. What we know of modern anatomy and physiology says a man can't rise from the dead three days after He's dead, yet it does. This is lazy philosophy and theology and one of the reasons modern Catholic theologians tick me off, they don't carry their statements on this far enough to see where they slit their own throats.

Pope John Paul II believed in evolution.
President Jimmy Carter believed in evolution.

@Feredir28 well she was talking science in general, and now that evolution has been proven the origin of the universe is up for debate with intelligent design actually being taught in some schools!!
moroney1 8 months ago
@moroney1 more accurately, the debate for whether intelligent design is science or not is over: its not. So it if you want to debate the origin of the universe, intelligent design should not and cannot be included.
As for teaching it in schools, bad idea. ignoring that its not science, simply by its own design means teaching it violates the Establishment Clause, and thus it is unconstitutional.
Feredir28 8 months ago
@Feredir28 well i dont knowabout American law, but intelligent design is being regarded as ok throughout schools n the U.K. adn some of Ireland...wtf!

Well said, Dr. Scott.
To quote Carl Zimmer: ""The scientific method does not claim that events can have only natural causes, but that the only causes that we can understand scientifically are natural ones."
The compatibility of science and religion depends on a healthy respect for the boundaries and limitations of each.
