i had this done 3 weeks ago ...had a 2b1 fixed with a plate and 7 screws .....6 screws in plate 1 screw to hold loose bone ......how long before i heal and can put stress back on it ....

i'm 49, been playing hockey, skiing and mountain biking for years, was long overdue for some kind of crash & some kind of injury.....

i'm lucky, didnt hit head, didnt blow out a knee, clavicle is broken clean apart.........

was biking fast down a hill, got to bottom, sharp right turn, and bike just slid out, next moment you're bouncing on the ground, and thinking "ok......here we go........"

thank you, surgery went well, scottsdale medical center, anesthesiologists are good..... they get the party started, wheel you to the OR, I made joke about filling a cavity while i'm under, and................. i woke up in recovery...........

recovery going well, gets better every day, they say full range of motion in a few weeks.......... ski season,

if you are getting this surgery, don't freak out, it's very common, and these people know what they are doing....

How long does a FRACTURED, not BROKEN Clavical take to heal? My doctor said it was a good fracture, in a good spot. How long untill I'll move it without some sort of pain? Or put pressure on it : Pushups, lifting weights, etc. I fractured it abourt 3.5 weeks ago. Someone help :(

I broke my left clavicle on a mt bike. it shattered where it broke and got displaced. Doctors gave me a sling w/ a 8 strap and said no surgery needed but my bone looks messed up. It looks like it will pop right trough my skin. You can see the rigid bone outline and it's botheringgg me. did anyone have this? Surgery or not?

@rvrmouse I have this same problem. I broke my clavical mt biking about 7 weeks ago. I only have a few aches when I put pressure on my shoulder but I have full movement and some strength. my main concern is the size on the bone. its 2x as big now and is sticking out bigtime. I'm now afraid that it may be more acceptable to breaking. is this a possibility ? I really want to get back on my bike asap.

@Equinoxx1337 what a bummer. sucks for us. Your doing good man, 7 weeks and you have full movement. I hope ill be able to move mine in a few weeks. Its been 3 1/2 weeks and i can very slowly pick up my arm with some pain. But ill wait for it to heal right. Dude i asked the doc about the pointy done thats pushing up on my skin and he said you can easily get the sharp bits removed with just a tiny incision. im thinking its way easier to break it now since it did not heal like it was before.

@rvrmouse i fractured my scapula and i think my clavicle is slightly displaced...my doc said it will be fine and the surgery isen't too good...i still have pain after 8 weeks and am going to get a second opinion on the 28th..hopefully i wontvneed surgery but it sticks out weird and feels loose

i got my clavicle facture just 2 days ago. i suffered a little bit of pain on the 1st day,on 2nd day i.e today I don't feel such pain. i am wearing a sling and 8 figure shaped brace. i have consulted an orthopaedician and i was said i don't require a surgery(my age is 17). sometimes i can feel the movement of fractured bones(i don't feel the pain at all). now what am i supposed to do

Broke mine almost a month ago in a car accident. Along with 10 ribs. I went two weeks later to get an x-ray because i had a collapsed lung and when i saw the x-ray it was still clearly broken(collar bone). I been wearing the sling everyday since it happend but i have a feeling its just not healing right.

I broke it towards the shoulder and it feels like it doesnt connect to anything. Im almost certain it doesnt. I cant seek medical help because im without insurance.

sling or a strap may be helpful

as the pain subsides advance movement and therapy

there no single good posture for it

each patient is different

@nabilebraheim thankyou i was scared cause it just doesnt feel like its going to heal or reconnect. my clavical is just in half at roughly the middle of the bone and it is displaced from just feeling it seems about 2cm reduced in length.

I fell and broke my collar bone 11 weeks ago at the shoulder end and has been in a sling since. Last x ray showed no difference and the end of the bone is pushing into my skin and I can feel it moving while in the car. I go in 2 weeks for another x ray and I think i'm going to ask for an pin and plate. I cannot raise my arm over my head or pick anything up. Any advice guys??

What's the incidence of nonunion if a clavicle fx treated by surgery vs. Those treated conservatively?

@elmoblatch16 inadequate fixation is the cause of non union in the surgical group

about 90 to 95 percent in the surgical group versus 85 percent in the conservative group

the surgical group are displaced and has a severe injury
