  • Anyone noticed the song has a Scott Joplin flavor to it?

  • Been listening to Tommy for a long time. Just about the time you think you know his stuff, he blows your mind in a new way.

  • Great... you're my favoriet

  • That is what you call AMAZING :)

  • Just when you think your on to playing struttin around 2:00 Tommy pulls off a miracle banjo roll and I'm like uhmm ya ok I'll get to that! Excellent not note for note to the original recording but he's got a sweet groove happening and thats because Tommy is playing it.

  • I love the way Tommy plays so flawlessly. It is coming from his heart. He is the best in my opinion; Him and Doyle Dykes. I found Richard Hudson on here too and he is no slouch either.

  • Tommy is not only technically great , but just look at his face.. it's true and from the heart, not just memorized arrangements.

  • Tommy is a great guitarist! I love to see him play. I also love to see and hear another great guitarist, 2004 international winner of the Chet Atkins award, Wesley Crider.

  • It sounds awesome. Song and his guitar. One day maybe i 'll learn this song. He is my inspiration. Thanks for uploading

  • Everyone has an idol, his one was Chet Atkins! But when Chet Atkins was young, there wasn´t " YOU TUBE". Tommy has luck, he is born in the right time......He is my idol!!! And for many other visitors from youtube too................... Nobody can say today...uh uh who is Tommy Emmanuel......................................He is THE ONE!!!

  • please tommy, life forever for our inspiration ever :D

  • Sweet... well done!

  • I would drink with Tom :) An elegant moodriser :) Wish him to live longer than I will, thank you, wizard.

  • I believe that Tommy will be a benchmark for guitarists for decades to come. There is, however, a new kid on the block whom I expect to be at least as good as Tommy in a couple of years: Smokin' Joe Robinson. There you have a real guitar wunderkind.

  • @JohnnyReb2009 also check out kieran murphy and gareth pearson both absolutely phenomenal and friends with Joe and Tommy, kinda like rivals i guess.

  • I am staring at about $40,000 worth of musical equipment in my room and thinking,,,BONFIRE>

  • 2 concerts in Czech republic this year.. I'm glad I'm living in such a small country.. cause I get to see both :D hahahahha.. I hope you will envy :)

  • If I had to pick a tune to listen to for eternity. This would be it.

  • Yaow!

  • I think it's just that he loves the guitar more than anyone else does...

  • Master of technique, groove, dynamics and any other musical subtlety you care to mention

  • Smooth as silk.Always a pleasure to listen to Tommy.

  • thee best my friend....the best

  • one of the best guitarist of the world.

  • your a bad assan! awsom!

  • All class........there is no one greater than TE

  • How relaxed can you be when you are playing a dificult piece like this? He keeps amazing me and keeps showing me great Chet tunes.

  • love it

  • amazing stuff

makes me wanna learn the guitar

  • a real master...

  • Comment removed

  • Hes got it all. If he wants to turn up the speed he can but he chooses to always remain dynamics and the melody overall :)

  • this is struttin#1, but have u heard struttin#2? ck out wesley crider's video of jerry reed tunes... he's a true-blue reed-picker

  • I got tickets to go see Tommy in September... Gotta work on my Tommy licks (just in case).

  • If you get a chance to attend one of his seminars DO IT.Well worth the money , you will not regret it.BTW dont forget your video cam lol

  • @guitartec - I always bring my thumbpick to his concerts, but he never invites me up. Probably a good thing.

  • That GUY is Tommy Emmanuel...the best!

  • I agree 100% I truly believe he is the BEST

  • I think your right.

  • Best version of this tune I guess, even if Buster B jones version is awsome too!

  • Actually I reckon the best version I've ever seen is by a guy on YouTube called gjourney. You may see the video in the selection on the right, I can now. Check his playing out. This song is one of the most technically demanding pickin' tunes and Tommy takes a few shortcuts. The gjourney version is hardcore Jerry Reed,

  • The one you are refering to IS Jerry Reed playing the song. It is not this guy gjourney.

  • tiapan, are you saying he is miming? I don't get it. Looks like he is playing it to me and the guitar doesn't sound like anything jerry reed would play. Can't see any listing on youtube for jerry reed playing struttin, either. I'm also sure jerry would have played it a lot better. Please explain

  • Tommy Emmanuel would never mime. He would never need to. He probably heard this song on the radio for the first time just 3 minutes before this video was shot.

  • This WorkShop was in E - Town Kuntucky. I was There Go TOmmy!!

  • no one in the world, not a single one, can play with such feel and groove like Tommy does. he is the chosen one! :)

  • Where was this workshop at?? It looks like exactly the same place as the workshop I went to!

    I must know!! lol

  • this is so groovy. even jerry could'nt groove like this. nothing against jerry he is great but tommy is so .................

I would love to hear this song live

  • you're so right mate!

  • even the water bottle can't help but groove to this ; )

  • lol:)

  • @hebijebi03 I was at one of his seminars and started wondering, "Who is that *#%@* pounding on the floor?" just before I realized it was TE!!! He doesn't tap his foot, he stomps it.

  • why must he be so christ like

  • He is syncopating like for saving his live thatswhy it's groovy like there is no tomorrow.

  • jesus christ.

  • fucking awesome aye.

  • This is the most deliciously funky version of Struttin' I've heard. I love it!

  • nice vid. i guess. se this with chet;P there u have it. (his idol)

  • This is such a good song. Love it.

  • i hate to compare players..but tommy might be the - - - - - - ever ..you fill in the blank..

    ????

  • That's a really difficult song to play. He isn't Jerry Reed but who is? I think it's a fine job.

  • haha, brill. Even water can't resist the groove of TE!

  • (I meant 'bottle', obviously... :))

  • Even the water bootle in the background has got a little groove going on...

  • Haha, nothing can escape the groove!

  • Love this rendition. Wish I could get my Maton to pop and sound as woody as that. Yeah yeah, it's all in the fingers! I'll keep practising!

  • I like Tommy Emmanuel so much I have tickets for tomarrow night in Fort Worths Bass Hall. amazing.... Just amazing!

  • Tommy is the most amazing gentleman i've ever met.

Gotta pick a tune with him on stage next time he visits Denmark. Check my profile out !

  • I love it!!! You've added this video exactly on my Birthday! such a wonderful B-day gift!! Thanx to U (better late than never :)

  • Jerry only died there a few weeks ago. I couldn't believe it well that's unexpecting news for yeah but he's east bound and down on the way to heaven where he'll be in a happy place. RIP Jerry.

  • I just love it

  • Thanks Katy good to see ya again

  • Brilliant. One of the best from the master Jerry songwriter Reed. And Tommy's sense of rhythm takes it to a new level

  • Thanks for coming by watching and commenting Voltara

  • Tommy is awesome of one man show finger style in everyone who love this style.

    apworld

  • He is the ONE! Thanks for coming by

  • Outstanding! Always love to hear one by TE!! :-) Thank you for posting this! -Derek

  • Your welcome thanks for coming by

  • great posting,as usual jerrys tunes are full of great ideas such as blues and funk, only the great tommy emmanuel can put great feeling into this one,i love that joke chet made that when when jerry writes these great tunes he cant play them a week later, good stuff,i wonder if tommy has played jerrys tune''blue finger''

  • Nobody put the groove in there like TE

  • 1:45 to 1:50 = His timing in that section is DIRTY FUNK.

  • O yeah

  • Great! Love Tommy, the best guitarist ever. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for watching he is the best!!!

  • I love that little fancy Chet style run he threw in there from 2:00 to 2:03!

  • I agree with daffydoug he sure fits alot of playing into those 3 seconds!!

  • That little Chet run sounded awful familiar! I placed it as the opening run from Chet's tune, "David's Dance" from Chet's "Me and My Guitar" album. Pure genious of Tommy tossing it in there as an extra bonus!

  • Sorry i thought i was clicking reply ....but it was remove, i dont know who the comment was left by.... sorry

  • Thanks for coming by Stawney

  • This looks like the February Etown 2008 Tommyfest workshop. I really enjoyed Tommy's story about how he learned this song. Really gave an insight into his character and work ethic. Thanks for posting it.

  • LOL obviously your where there also, yes that is exactly where this came from, yes it was a great story, thats called putting 110% in i believe. Thanks for coming by

  • The Joker Club Bangkok, 1975? At the pool in the morning to avoid high humidity? Or was that another one?

  • LOL I think that was it

  • Yep, that was it. Just so you know, I'm the idiot that got up at the end to play a song with Tommy. I literally couldn't get the pick to strike the strings, I was so nervous. When I got back home and listened to my recording, it was pretty bad, but I noticed that Tommy never gave up on me and towards the end, it actually turned into a pretty nice little jam. That's why he's who he is. He never gives up and does whatever it takes to get it done. One-of-a-kind and the best there is in my book.

  • Cool yeah I thought you did a good job, glad to know you , See you again at the next workshop here in Ky

  • Could you describe that story for us? :D

  • I assume you mean the Struttin' story. In 1975 TE went to Thailand with the Hanna-Barbera Co. as they were promoting their fantasy TV characters called the Wombles in the Asian market. He dressed up in a costume as one of the Wombles to perform at shopping malls and markets. Just prior to leaving, he got a Chet Aktin tape that had the song "Struttin'" on it. He became obsessed with the song and was determined to learn it. He had a nylon guitar that he had taken with him for practice jamming.

  • The problem was that Thailand was so hot and humid during the day that he had to set his alarm clock for 4 o'clock in the morning to be able to go outside and work the song out at his hotel so that the heat didn't affect his guitar. He would work on it till it got too hot then go back to sleep until he had to get up for his Womble gig at 1:30 p.m.. Also, he had put together a band and was playing a club called the Joker club at night. Everyone had to go home at 11:30 curfew each night because

  • of the post war dangers in the country. He would go from his Wombles gig to the Joker club gig then back to his hotel. He did this for the entire 25 days he was there and he said that Struttin' was so complex that it took him the entire 25 days to learn it to his standards, which are pretty damn high. lol.

  • Ahah! Really nice, thank you.

Oh my god that's crazy, probably I wouldn't be alive after 25 days like that ^^

  • Thank you so much for the anecdotes. I just love hearing stories about Tommy. Like you I got very nervous jamming with Tommy one time....it's like golfing with Tiger Woods....scary but exhilarating at the same time! He was very gracious, always positive and a very nice guy too. Anyone who jams with Tommy should feel proud!

  • I love this song. Thx for sharing! :)

  • Thank you for coming by and commenting

  • Great rendition. Sounds even better when he plays it on his "Big Bertha" (Maton TE1) with the mighty bass response. Thanks for uploading!

  • Yeah sounds great thanks for coming by
