Great song, with echoes of the song "Marquee Moon" by Television, penned by Tom Verlaine. I noticed it the 1st time I heard it.
In an old Thurston interview, the interviewer suggested what I'd thought too, that there was some Television influence on "Murray Street". Thurston agreed Television was one of SY's predecessors that 's "elemental" to SY's sound. And it was hearing Tom play the Fender Jazzmaster that
prompted Thurston to play one too. He's called it it his "favourite guitar".
totally random, but Sonic Youth is way more important influential and talented than Faust.just had to get that out.if i do it on a Faust vid it'd be trolling n.n Can is pretty bad ass , but not even they match SY
Sonic Youth albums each bring a certain time in my life. This album came out as I was graduating high school. I had just moved into my first place with my then boyfriend, Joe. He has sense passed and listening to this album makes me think of he and I, starting out on our own..it makes me miss him..this is one of my fav SY songs ever. Disconnection Notice is great, too. Those two cuts are amazing..
Agreed. Great song. Epic. One band that sounds like Sonic Youth (SY), sometimes at least, is Pavement and now the Jicks/Malkmus solo. I knew SY and loved their album "Sister' to death before Pavement came along. Then Pavement became about my favorite band ever (not counting the Beatles) and Malkmus' continues that.
Pavement went off in a somewhat different direction than that SY sound. But this song has that Malkmus-esque sound, which was perhaps influenced by SY in the 1st place.
You are a wise man.. Sonic Youth and Pavement are both my favorite bands..
They are friends too btw. And you might notice Mark Ibold from Pavement playing bass with them some times and with Kims Spin offs..
I think pavement was very low fi at first but was more inlfuenced by 70s rock. The opening of this song sounds a bit like.. hmm i think "cooling by sound".. moise noisy though.
Their best post Daydream-song, without question.

Just listened to this through headphones with a whiskey in a dark room. No TV, just this. Remonded me of why I love Sonic Youth. Cheers!

Amazing song. Sonic Youth kicks ass. I dare anyone to find a band that sounds like them. Can't believe I'm the first to comment on this.
