@saemj ~ Every time I go out and throw a round, I see guys bombing these HUGE drives, only to completely screw up approach and putt shots because they have zero control. This game is NOT about simply chewing up distance with a big arm and shoulder, it is about placement and control which more and more young, athletically minded players don't have. They see Avery Jenkins throwing 600 feet at a distance competition and think that's the game. But on most courses around the country, it isn't.
PS : Distance can still help your game. Distance and control are not mutualy exclusive, something that many people seem to forget when they bring out the "new guy who only cares about distance" stereotype. And if Avery is only throwing 600 feet in a distance competition, he must have a bad day.
@saemj ~ I didn't say a word about "new guy". I meet guys playing 5, 7, 10, 10+ years who -still- can't approach and putt, just bomb. Distance and control don't -have- to be mutually exclusive, but for far too many players, they are.
The POINT is that I would be willing to bet a great deal of money that -most- guys who are throwing Nukes would not "stomp" these exceptionally talented players from 1979, even with 1979 era discs because -most- guys with a Nuke can't actually play the game.
@jhimm Hmm, I meant "stomped" in the sence of that they would be surprised and shocked on how different the drivers are nowadays, not that we would beat them. Like going back to 1979 and showing them a IPhone. Sorry if stomped is the wrong word for that, English is not my mother tongue.
bobbylikepudding and starstatesounds you guys don't realize that wham-o ran this game back in the day.. they were about to invent triangled edge shaped "disc"... not a frisbee... someone (won't name names) found out about it at wham-0... quite and patented the idea... magically innova was created... (hmm that was wierd) wham-o used to have like $100,000 purses for the game... they got pissed and left the sport after they did that and ever sense innova has continued to only grease its own pockets
@lellosnow Wow thats too bad but thank you for the disc golf history, I had never heard about that. Wouldn't it be great if they had huge purses like that now?
Thanks for sharing this video!

@saemj ~ Ah. Could be. Could be. Then again, given the link being highlighted in the film is only 275 feet or so, I'm not sure they'd -care-. =)

40, 50, 80 and 100 molds. All made by Wham-o and well before the introduction of beveled-edged discs.
