Actually, Voltron was adapted from Japan's Golion, which was an attempt at capturing some of the audience from Super Sentai, which Power Rangers is derived from.

The Super Sentai franchise has existed since 1975. It has always featured giant robots and a team of colored suit-wearing pilots. 100 Beast King Go Lion (which would come to be known as Voltron US), was not released until 1981. Voltron also follows suit with other Super Robot anime such as Getter Robo (1974) and Combattler V (1977). If anything, Voltron is "ripping off" everyone else. In reality, nothing is ripped off. Japanese anime tradition is merely being carried on.

Those cartoons were few of the best . In these cartoons now most of them just fail because they have little storyline and contenunity . Mostly anime still has those good shows that take it more seriously . But Voltron was like an original theme with the Lions but most people don't know the Vechile Voltron was first in 1982 but it's referred as Voltron 2 but both of the series is cool people .
