I've never seen the legendary Ashford and Simpson in concert, thank God I was able to see the late great Phyllis Hyman in concert. I've got to get to New York to see the legendary Valerie, the great love of Nick's life. Pray for Valerie because today 8/26/11 is her birthday and I'm sure it's not easy after celebrating almost 50 years with her husband. It's good to know that God will be her comfort and strength, not just today but for the rest of her life.
Just last night, not knowing that Nick had went home to be with his father, I was listening to this song "REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEBODYS HAND", this message, and conceding that this is may be the most powerful song that I have ever heard. Pass it on. RIP NIck.
The way Cissy started was just so classy. She commanded attention from that first soprano entry.Haha I love the way Cissy slapped Patti. Patti's chest is off the chain.
I love how Cissy has to give it up and just slap Patti as she finishes that vocal climb. It never fails, regardless of who else is in the room or on the stage, Patricia Holt ALWAYS stops the show. I wonder what it feels like to have that type of anointing. God bless them all!
I remember this too when it was on TV. I can watch this all day. I also love watching the reactions of these GIANTS when Patti goes on that riff. Priceless!!!!
@ladymuziklover Yeah thats the Patti way. When you listen to Patti you really want her to do it that way. She oversings we know - but thats we want her to do... Thats why we love her :)
they were all great really this is singing at it best , but this the area of do not give a mike to patti labelle because if you do its over she gonna take you out and i mean this in the best of ways, also watch labellle and ashford at the tail end fighting for the mike it simply wonderful to watch ,what you don;t see is when they leaveing the stage and labelle is still got the mike and still carry on, this was on the disney channel years ago .
I love this performance. Its so sad to think that not one of todsy top selling artist shouds be able to even stand in the same room as anyone or this stage , let alone sing witht them. In todays music industry its more about looks then atcual talent . There are a select few in the industry today that would be able to pull this off and have it sound half as good as this.
Phyllis Hyman was the greatest of all time in my opinion I know that sounds heavy but I just loved her and loved her talent she is very missed not only be my family and I but buy the industry that treated her so poorly!
@ifusuckilltellu I agree the industry did her badly and she's just one of the stories that we hear about. Just think of all the nameless people who have been abused by the industry. It's really sad when you think about it. On a lighter note. Did the damn thing on here. She was a great great singer.
phyllis has a great tone and patti's power is unmatched, Cissy's voice is so operatic, i see so much of her in Whitney
