  • Wonder why ALL the Nordic countries don't have Gripens in their air forces and rather go for American F-16s. Battle proven is no dang excuse since every fighter needs to be given a chance to fight to see its capabilities. 30 yrs ago, F-16 was not a battle proven jet.

I believe that Denmark, Norway, Finland also must buy Gripens for their air forces.

  • @Saffronwing1 Romanian gouverment dances as US plays. It's just stupid.

  • @Saffronwing1 its because JAS is the least reliable option (crashed many times), the finns almost bought it but chose the F-18 instead because of reliability.

  • @MrSpritzmeister Romanians use to say "Rains agan..with MIGs" :)) So I think JAS is way much better.F 16 is totally controlled by computer anyway; or else is impossible to fly it.

  • @jasgrip hate to breake it for you there but jas is wery computer controlled, way more than the f-16 but thats not a bad thing at all. thats why it is the worlds most technology advanced fighter

  • @TheSwekebab Everey new generation jet fighter has fly-by-wire more or less anyway :)

  • @jasgrip yea :)

  • @MrSpritzmeister 3 in-service crashes is a lot for you? Please! US hides most of its crashes doesn't mean that their jets don't crash. Crashes are normal in the beginning test phases. Bird strikes and other stuff that happened are simply incidents possible with any jets. BTW more F-16s have crashed IN-SERVICE than Gripens total: 16 F-16s to 3 Gripens.

The only reason F-16s win contracts is because of US arm-twisting of allies.

  • @Saffronwing1 four things: 1) I am talking about Finland and the F/A-18 2) I am not stating an opinion im stating an historical fact, if you look at the JAS 39 Site on Wikipedia you will see that 3) I dont know about the romanian choice and the reasons for it, but I could imagine there is alot of corruption involved, and probably the unit costs are from a different planet 4) All new air craft is controlled by computers due to the instable plane frames, which makes them more agile

  • @MrSpritzmeister F 16's aerodinamics is awful compared to delta wing of JAS.I saw JAS in trouble. But even F22 or Eurofighter could have problems any moment and have crashed before.Romanian choice is F16 but as everyone else, we are in an economical crisis. The budget was allocated only on paper :))

  • @MrSpritzmeister that wery wrong friend :) jas is probably the most reliable plane in the world rigt now a total of 5 planes have crashed and thats wery little. it just got a bad rumor because 2 prototypes crashed, but thats not bad either. usually when u develop aircrafts there use to be a lot of crashes
