The best thing to do would have been to tie a chain around its tail, drag it out to deep water and let it go. Sharks would get a free meal, then it would sink to the bottom and provide food to deep-sea animals.

The whale is indeed a speam whale... It dived very deep and came to the surface too quick... Over a period of time doing this, the whale sufferes from decompression sickness. If they examine the bones from this creature, it'll show signs of such thing..
