Definitely Lou Abelardo singing ......if you listen carefully you can hear his American accent. My re-issue LP covering this period has Lou singing on all tracks recorded between Sept.1929 and Jan.1930 ....... 11 in all but obviously not complete as this track is not on it..
lovely song.the vocalist is not sam browne,it the american vocalist lou aberlado.Recorded in unusual place as the decca record company was born in february 1929 and had no suitable recording studio where the acoustics were good, so roamed around london
Due to the recent interest in posting 78's of British dance bands, I just uploaded a transfer from one of my favorite 78's, by Ambrose and his Orchestra - it's "When A Woman Loves A Man," recorded for HMV in 1930. For some reason, Youtube won't let me post the link, but it's accessible through my profile page. (henry814)
This has the same early "Talkie" studio orchestra quality i so love.I have said it many times but if only all dance 78s had been recorded in public halls etc like this!
How on earth do I up my enthusiasm in this message from the others youve added tonight!!This is right up with "we'll dance till dawn"!!The reverb is SO GOOD and the tune is SO GOOD!!!LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY!I think that conveys my enthusiasm for this 78!
Best version!

In my opinion Jack Hylton's version is far superior. Give it a try everyone.

Ambrose had the better band, but when it came to DeSylva/Brown/Henderson,Hylton was supreme in his versions

Yes, it does not sound like Sam Browne. I believe he was with Jack Hylton in 1929.

I am rather proud of this very early DECCA, it was a great North Cave find, the other one is in the same excellent condition too.

This is a "hopeless" battle, now you come with a brilliant Ambrose, which I love too much for not favouriting.
