this is so embarrasing for gillan, his voice has defenitley gone. i was listening to his magic album his voice was exceptional.he is a real legend but way past his best
i cant understand why people are racking down on Ian Gillan's performance here. I think he sounds just terrific. If any rock singer can sing nessun dorma with pavarotti its definietly him.
well i have reevaluated his singing a little bit and well he could have done better. But still, if anyone could pull it off, it would be Ian Gillan, he just didn't bring it completely home this time
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i found luciano very rude here going back stage so early when she actually tried to talk to him, well if would have not been the first time he were full of himself but i thanks him also for all his contribution to helt others.
You may call it rude, but picture being 66 years of age and being as large as he was, it must have been exceedingly difficult to stand through a whole concert and sing as beautifully as he did. And for that, and so much else, i salute him. The fact that he went backstage for a rest after 3 minutes of heavenly singing.
I cant believe the way to have to exuse him of been rude.
Manners are manners my friend, and we all have to show respect to others to make a better world, no matter if you are huge o slim as an spagetti.
And also, yes he stood up to sing but that was his profession, he wasnt actually sweeping and moping as many people do to survive and try to live with the little money they earn, my point is that he sung very well but there is lot of darkness as well and loads of luck of humility.
Aid concert to help people ,doesnt matter how they perform, the help is important and should be grateful to watch it for free!!!!!PS.Ian Gillan was "superb" in november Budapest with Deep Purple.
Gillan is a Baritone and isn't young anymore, that's why he was humble with the high notes and strains with the high G at the end. But can someone tell me why he struggles to get a high G in chest voice but still easily goes well above soprano G in head voice live?
As a Baritone/ Low tenor it is difficult for me to achieve a middle G in pure chest voice but in head voice I can hit a high soprano C. Two different registers with different ranges.
Come no?
Call me old fashioned, but this shouldn't be sung in English. Ever. Especially with Ian Gillan singing.
On the other hand, it's nice to see to singers of different genres combine their voices. And it does in a sense, make opera easier for people who complain they can't understand it/won't read subtitles. Even so, "no, no!"
Remember the scene from Milos Forman's "Amadeus"? The Italians didn't want Mozart to write an opera in German, too. I do agree rather with your "other hand" ;)))
Yes, but Mozart was Austrian. Thus, German was his native tongue. Puccini was Italian = Nessun Dorma = written in Italian. Of course, that doesn't mean composers didn't write in different languages. That's fine.
What I was saying was that it sucks to translate a song like this classic into English when it wasn't written that way. And it also sucks that Gillan was singing. His voice is not an opera voice and it sounded bad.
I'd rather say that his (Gillan's) voice sounded... different. At first hearing it sounded to me bad, too. But more I listen, more I like it.
I can understand Your point of view, Your arguments, but You must know, that I learned music on The Beatles and Deep Purple firstly... Classic music and opera came to me later ;)
I can understand that. It just doesn't sound pleasant to my ears.
Haha, I'm the opposite. I was raised on Bach, Chopin, Vivaldi, etc. Everything else came later to me (I'm a huge fan of The Beatles though). So I get a little critical and defensive when classical music isn't not done in its orginal context or is done poorly.
