Saw him perform live three times last year while he was touring with Izintaba. Got to meet and hang out with them after one of the shows...talked about all sorts. Awesome guy, chilled and peaceful. Easy going with everyone. :)

@alan3888 its probably a blues distortion effect. its the sound i get when using my various ones.

@alan3888 maybe he is using a lopper o smthing like that, he plays the clean part first, record it with the loop pedal and then plays the distortion one

@alan3888 I used to wonder about this - I distorted my own acoustic at a few open mics and found (and was kinda pleased, too) it sounded like two guitars, although i couldn't figure out why. When I finally did, boy, i felt stupid, cause its actually kinda obvious... all it is is the sound of the acoustic (even if you distort it, its still an acoustic, and its still making noise acoustically) getting picked up by the various mics! If you listen, it also gives his clean tone a chorus-y sound.

to me it dosent sound like an EBEGBE tuning... listen to when its played open at the beggining, if it were in that tuning it would sound like an E Minor.. :S hmmm confusing ?

When I play this song, I just have it tuned normally in drop d with a tapo on the first fret. I use my first finger on the second biggest string 6th fret, pinkie on the third string 8th fret, and the biggest string open. Then I slide down to first finger, 4th fret, pinkie 6th fret and so on.
