To be honest, I couldn't say what card was in my first MDD, and I'd have to go home and look to see what's in the new one. I've only acquired these machines as a whole, not in parts, so whatever they came with, I was ok with.

You can look at mactracker.ca to see what cards came with what Macs, and you can try eBay (try to stick to reputable sellers) for a replacement. For new, Other World Computing (macsales.com) might be helpful.

i have a quicksilver g4, but the video card is almost dead (it only shows trippy lsd art after a few minutes). i tried to stick in an agp card from an older pc, but it refuses to even bong with that one.

do i need a special mac version (which is, i guess, hard to find and expensive)?

@bamdadkhan You don't say which card it is, but a quick look at eBay finds Mac NVIDIA GeForce4 MX cards (the stock card in the last version of the QS G4), for $20-25 plus shipping. I don't think that's very expensive to get that Mac back up and running...

@bamdadkhan Ah! You do need a Mac card, but you may also need to tape over a pin of the AGP that the G4 uses for ACD displays if you use a newer card.

@bamdadkhan It doesn't matter. The G4 motherboard supplies power on a pin that was unused on AGP 2x specification. AGP 4x ended up using that pin as a ground so it screws up unless you block that pin IF your new video card doesn't have an ADC (Apple Display Connector) port.

That machine certainly does look well built! The way the guts are all on the slide panels and the side panel is on the hinge is interesting, it would be the second least painful way to open a computer for maintenance i've ever seen.
