i would say in a characteristic Kata is for more to self precision and internal healing power for centering you're self to you're own characteristic Kata and balancing you're self toward life and goals great exercise
Matsui unnecessarily changed the kata, who created the Mas Oyama. According to me a form which retains Arneil is most appropriate and reflects the original. Even Oyama signed under the book, which he created Arneil. Matsui and the rest some of the masters want to show what kind they are not good and they changed kata. I don't like "new"=worse katas.
@wei461101 How long were you uchi deshi for? That is cool. Do you Shihan Quinn in Australia. He was uchi deshi for a few months then too. Also Wasn't Kancho Matsui there then too?
@ahmednabil actually he is holding his breath but only for the execution of the techniques..many great masters believe that you can generate more power by retaining the breath in the tandem when executing a technique. the exhale comes after. its like holding your breath to lift something heavy..more power!! breathing through the teeth or exhaling during a technique is not the only way..
@Torontokoshiki i have actually seen most japanese masters do that , and heard one also talking about compressing the breath into the tanden on the execution , im sure they dont put any pressure outside the tanden , whi is very hard to do , when i try to do it i feel the blood pressure in my head and the IOP increase , not a good thing .
Very intresting. I'm just about to learn sushiho and we (IFK) do several passages quite different. I'm wondering if there was something lost or forgotten by Hanshi Steve Arneil or if it's simply another interpretation.
ofcourse he wouldnt forget that , because he must see it all the time , be reasonasble.
but the european masters always change the japanse katas and exaggerate the movement and tense the body , which is in noway as good as the original. osu
@joopsnoop To say that any branch of Kyokushin is no longer connected to Sosai is insulting to those who train in them. And it is only natural that after a time there would be new katas. To deny anything other than what Sosai presented is to trap yourself from evolving or thinking outside the box. I don't think Sosai wanted his karate split, but he would have wanted his karateka to explore beyond what he offered, seeing as he's not around to invent anything else. Respect. Osu.
@H0useMouse No insult intended but if you take as an insult, why? Members of Matsushima have lots of ways to find out there organization is not part of Sosai or the Honbu. They just self-made and have no justification for exist. I read on forum where Matsushima lied verry big time to Honbu and make promises then backed down. It is not to do with the members of the branchs becoz sometime they know nothing, But instructors have duty to know truth about where they send there money too.
@joopsnoop I can't speak for other karateka, but personally, I am part of the younger generation that accepts all branches of Kyokushin without the division of power the old Shihans still possess, and we hope one day younger leaders will unite Kyokushin again and incorporate everything into one unification. Those who practice Kyokushin with heart and honor, and who respect Sosai is Kyokushin, regardless of branch leader. Osu.
@H0useMouse Okay. Verry nice comment. I like what you said alot. Please work hard to make that reality. Remember to practice the Kyokushin with heart and honor means honesty too and when so many groups steal everything from the Sosai's familia it is not honorable.
@joopsnoop Well Sosai based Kyokushin on other MA's he learned and made it his own. I don't know of any kyokushin branch claiming they have invented a new MA, so all they're doing is deviating from the "central line." We forget that a new karateka has no idea of Kyokushin's political mess unless they've done research before joining a dojo. Dedicated Kohai and Sempais go to the dojo to train, not debate politics, so we have a limited say in what transpires in Kyokushin worldwide. We're stuck :/
@H0useMouse Exactly. The 'deviations' not original, not necessary, or they are not helpful. No need to change these things. Deviations just for sake of it, just so they say they are different and avoid being responsible. Like you say, new members don't know difference. There stuck. Best to do is train and try to connect with Sosai's Honbu dojo in time. The sempais are the ones who don't pass truth on. I like your words. Ossu!
Sold his loyalty to Sosai and Kyokushin for money. For him the karate organization is just a way to make money. I predict he will leave karate alltogether within 10 years and pass the organization to someone else. NOW he just takes money and takes money.
lol, i also practive hapkido. its nowhere as powerful and usefull as kyokushin. but my master drives a bmw and deosnt even teach. just keeps talkin to poeple and he charges ALOT. He has alot of skills but all his students left him suz of his arrogance. im thinking of leaving him to. SAME PROBLEM. so ashihara or seidokan better?
I love his speed when performing this form. for some reason people think you need to try and go unreasonably fast, but this looks strong and functional
Excellent instructional kata video by the master himself (Not a competitive version). How some people have the audacity to criticize such a man is beyond me. Maybe they should look at his list of achievements.
Gunpreist, what style of karate do you practice? The styles where a kata is judged by how pretty it is and how fast/snappy the blocks are do it only for show. When you fight, even if you use the techniques from a kata, they will never be as pretty as in the form. So instead the form is being practiced with more practical realistic movements rather than "practice it pretty and hope for the best" K-Matsui may not have the pretty katas you enjoy, but he has practical application and movment instead
Kancho (sorry sensei) used to be my karate instructor in middle school, my dean got him to come teach karate at school but there were only like 5 kids in the class lol so i got to know him personally
u dont get it do u ? even the greatest man can be creticised by some people ,for anyone to think that he can do any better than k. matsui , he must be out of his mind . he knows better than the judges , this man is called the expert of the experts , anyway take alook at the other comments , u might get a feeling that u are wrong , and u know nothing.
i really dont believe how can he criticise this man , gunpriest , its not u who makes the rules not u ,not me. its the man in this video , he is the one who puts rules.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
he might be a good fighter but his kata is just shit, there is almost no body tension in his blocks, his tsukis are extremely slow, at 1:54 geez even a beginner can do that faster stronger and overall better, this kata performance sucks, as I said good fighter but this kata is gross, watch the france kata team for example the snapping of their techniques are extremely fast and they have way more body tension, looks like a different world
the techniques look neither fast nor tensed up, so what is there left to say, if he isn't tensed but fast well ok at least something but this way there is like uhm nothing?
I agree with GunPriest. This kata is good at the form, but it lacks speed, tension, snapping, etc... etc... Anyway, he is not criticising Matsui, he is criticising the performance of the kata he did.

Fun video. I like how you can hear everything -- his footwork, the snap of his gi. Seems like he holds his breath a lot; is that so?
People don't realize it's harder to do something with precision and technique than it is to do something fast. This was really good.

I see we share two interests .
well i dont think he holds his breath , its just an expression i guess .

Sosai didn't do it that way. Little differences.
I remember that Kancho Matsushima is still doing it the "original" way...
