  • Beautiful! I especially love 3:22 to 4:10 so gentle and full of forgiveness and love towards Albrecht.

  • I love Alessandra, she is extremely expressive

  • i prefer alina cojocaru in this role.

  • Sicuramente la migliore etoile italiana insieme ad Ambra Vallo!

  • When Alessandra dances it reminds me of a feather floating in the air... absolutely exquisite!

  • her arches come from the ankle instead of the middle of the foot like some other famous ballerines whose "good" arches are more of a buckling of the midfoot

  • como tu nadie alessandra...bendita italia que te dio la vida y contigo denuevo a giselle

  • oddio =S

  • Exquisitly performed with grace and great elegance!

    Bravo! Wonderful Video!

    [Thank you]

  • The great passage of entrechats quartres en diagonale is exceptionally poetic and elegant. This clip cuts off the traditional ovation at the end of the variation, but I'm sure it must have been thundrous.

  • absolutly love Alessandra Ferri my second favorite ballerina my first is Wendy Whelan

  • she is by far my favorite giselle, not only is her technique phenomenal but she has the most dramatic face, she literally IS giselle. while zakharova is a close second, she doesn't have the same emotional draw for me as ferri.

  • she looks like a puppet in some parts, its so cool o3o

  • I like Polina Semionova myself. She's amazing :) Ferri's arches are ridiculous though!

  • She's the only ballerina who gave me constant chills throughout the whole pas de deux. T-T So glad there's a video of her dancing this... she makes me want to cry.

  • Ferri is amazing! Beautiful technique

  • TO WINDSOCK3: I am not discussing your taste but I am sorry the way you write is really awful: a "good" dancer? What does "good" mean? This is art not business......to use the term "good" in the arts shows so much mediocrity....

  • As always her feet are amazing, but...for me Zakharova is better as Giselle. Ferri is wonderful, very dramatic, but...

  • carla fracci unica come lo è la luna...

  • è stupenda incanta ki la guarda

  • bellissima

  • Alina Cojocaru is my favorite as Giselle...

  • i love ferri in r&j but this really disappointed me!

  • she really is not that good i mean she is a good dancer but zakharova is much better!!!

  • el es un gran bailarin ^^ me gusta la limpieza de su trabajo

me gusto mucho la parte del minuto 6:00 me parece que lo iso bastante biem para la rapidez ^^

  • at 0:55 I thought it was a rope pulling her tutu not her leg.

Wow. amazing control! She's a wonderful dancer!

  • Zakharova is not an ideal Giselle, Ferri is clearly better. There is too much about extension and technique, she lacks of fluidity, musicality, emotion and acting abilities. She is also a bad mover, when walking or running it looks very unnatural. For me she is also too tall to be a charming and spirited Giselle.

  • What school did she go to?

  • amazing... ;)

  • fedeangel22 ci fai tu schifo ignorante-.-

  • ma farai schifo tu semmai -.-'

  • scusa ma che cosa ti fa schifo? E' bravissima

  • Che bellezza =)

  • god her legs are gorgeous, especially her feet!

  • See this video: Giselle - Alicia Alonso

  • my favourite part of this duet start 3:30. it's is such an amazing illusion of weightlessness.

  • I really like how she did this role. Giselle isn't normally one of my favorites, but I do like to see how each ballerina interprets it. She really captures that sense of being in a world apart from him, as though he's only dancing with a ghost or a shadow. Really good.

  • bè quei piedi li ha anche svetlana zakharova etoile del bolshoi

  • She's lovely and I'm glad she doesn't sacrifice artistry for grotesquely high extensions. However, for artistry and technique, to me, nobody beats Makarova with Baryshnikov. Absolutely the best!

  • grotesquely high extensions? sorry, but zakharova´s extensions are beautiful to say the least and i don´t think anyone who knows what it takes to do it would call them grotesque

  • I agree... I believe excessive extension to be "less than ideal". I do not say "grotesque".

  • There no such thing as "excessive extension."

  • Ferri trained at the Teatro alla Scala and then finished at the Royal Ballet School.

  • Wow... talk about control!!! Alessandra is the master of control... and not to mention BEAUTIFULLY arched feet... Great footwork towards the end too. I would've been dying with those chagements! Beautiful, absolutely beautiful

  • ..ma avete visto ke collo del piede ha??? mamma mia troppo bella!

  • does anyone know what pointe shoes she wore? did she change them for different roles? i've been curious how they can last her for any length of time at all!! (length of time that i'm referring to is maybe a show.)

  • I believe she wore Rocket Dogs for that role.

  • mamma mai adoro giselleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee troppo bello e sopratutto troppo bravi....

  • allesandra is perfect dancer, but i dont like her body, she looks like a man, sorry

  • no no it's just this costume!!!! it's not very flattering.

  • Alessandra is brilliant......

  • I love you Alessandra! I love those arches!

  • Alessandra is pure divinity. Giselle on the other hand was a total ninny and should have let the worthless SOB die.

  • Gaaah, I loved the lingering (balanced) arabesque she gave at the last part as she just FLOATED THERE before running off stage. T_T that's ballet right there. LOL.

  • Thank swanlakegirl for your solidarity

  • Tristan23 I don't hate her but I don't like her.Ciao!

  • I don't like her

  • dont't hate. she's one of the best ballerina's of our time. when she performed her final curtain call with ABT last april, she recieved a 20 minute standing ovation. that's something.

  • Any and all professional ballerinas should be highly respected- it's excruciatingly hard and you can't judge by one performance.

  • Why are you hammering on MaryMore90??? So she doesn't like Alessandra Ferri, so what?? Each ballerina is different, so it's normal you like different ballerinas. I prefer Gillian Murphy over Alessandra, and Larissa Lezhnina over Gillian. Everyone likes different dancers. Don't turn into a school teachers over other peoples opinions.

  • who cares about her entrechats?

i know she is not dancing at her best but it's something none of us can change so deal with it

i still like her dancing in other videos

  • Surely not the best Giselle in history. She stands clearly behind great interpreters like Bessmertnova, Alonso, Fracci, Ulanova and Makarova.

  • I disagree, she is a tremendous dancer, with a lot of emotion, her feet is "incomparable". She is the best Giselle and Juliette ( romeo and juliette )...She will make you cry in Romeo and Juliette, see it with the Scala of Milan

  • oh,i'm sure your perfection goes over this one. Maybe one day you will show us your great technique and your perfect entrechats, dancing on a wire ;)

  • i dont dance any longer, but for your info i went to vaganova school and was a founder of a ballet company... plus, our first production was Giselle. i'd love to see your entrechats ... lol

  • i'm happy for you and your beautiful life but this is not a good reason to say to one of the best dancer of our times that she hasn't any technique!

    p.s.: i still don't see your entrechats;)

  • I think that's rather unfair of you to say that. She has been dancing non-stop for at least half an hour, and her energy levels would have gone down.

  • i really am not interested in having this debate. everyone will stick to their point of view, so there isnt really any point...its kinda boring and not very constructive.

  • They put you to the wall and you got a -6 rate. It's dangerous to have your own opinion and own taste and not to agree to everyone else's opinion :-) I still wonder where are "their entrechats"...they were asking only for yours :-)

  • no one put me to the wall, i am just tired of a pointless argument. its easy to establish what is longer or heavier, according to Plato, but in the matters such as this only anger and unpleasant comments have place. sorry, but i think Plato is right. good bye

  • I suppose you didn't realize I was on your side :-)

  • no, sorry, i didnt. but thank you for your support. :)

  • OMGG. amazing

  • Surely Alessandra is the greatest Giselle in history. This is perfection.

  • Beautifuly done. Absolutly Beautiful

  • é meraviglosamente perfetta!!beata lei!

  • Does anyone know who is the GREAT viola-player here?

  • is it really viola or cello? I'm assuming its viola because it doesn't sound as rich as a cello but then again you never know :\. You can look up the DVD of this ballet and find the various soloists and instrumentalists to find out by the way

  • and what about Massimo Murru...both lovely...

  • No words can describe the sorrow I felt as I saw Ferri dance. That was WONDERFULLY done. Even though her extensions and such were not very done, it was seriously overlooked by the fact that she could express the character so well.

  • No genius, her extensions are within the Romantic Style, and pefectly appropriate. Dancers now do high extensions in this role, and it's WRONG!!! Did you know she learned this role from Carla Fracci? The greatest Gisell of our time? I doubt it.

  • That was so beautiful. I almost cried. The feeling she conveyed and the perfect technique....

  • Oh goodness, it's like her feet were carved by angels.

  • Yes, Alessandra is world famous for those arches. But she's even more famous for her dramatic abilities. She was never one of the strongest of prima ballerinas from a technical standpoint, but her Giselle, her Juliet, etc, could make you weep.

  • This is gorgeous; I have it on DVD and it's so fun to watch.

    Ferri is great.

  • I like Ferri's version better than zahkarova. Don't get me wrong zakharova is an amazing dancer. However, Ferri's dramatic interpretation is phenomenal. Besides she's italian Giselle is in her blood...

  • and i think that alessandra would be better in dancing "Myrtha" than "giselle"

  • i like svetlana zakharova more .. i can feel it more when she dances giselle

  • I don't know why all those people are thumbs downing you. People are entitled the rights to have their own opinions.

I prefer Alessandra's better, but Svetlana Zakharova's is very good too. ^^

  • J'adore ce ballet.

  • ahhh!!! those gorgeous feet!!! im so jealous.

  • Ferri is my absolute favorite, but come on...it's not who is the best but to appreciate each ballerina's interpretation of the role. If every one was a carbon copy what would be the point? Each one brings her own personal stamp to the part and should be appreciated for her own artistry. Can't compare apples and oranges.

  • I love Ferri's interpretation of Giselle. She conveys a ghost-like style with out looking limp. She is delicate without having to force it! AND HER FEET. I love them.

  • Cojocaru's Giselle, when she's partnered by Kobborg, is truly special. Some parts, you realize that you've held your breath because you didn't want to miss an iota of her artistry. I wish I can buy the dvd...I'll even beg Ms. Mason.

Just got the La Scala version with Zakharova and while she has the technique, it left me cold. I'm sure her Giselle makes plenty of hearts go aflutter but it was like turning on the cold tap for me.

  • she is so bueatiful but i think her foot work on the battments could av been a little bit quicker then i think that wouls have made it even better!

  • alessandra ferri is perfect giselle

  • mmm, shes ood but i think i definitely like alina cojocaru better..

  • my favorite is makarova, but ferri comes in a close second.

  • Cojocaru is also fantasatic. her mad scene is wonderful like Ferri's. Its not all about extention. Zakharova has extention but she's lacking something that Ferri has. I also love Ferri in Kenneth Macmillan parts-she's suited to the choreography and her Juliet is still one of the best ever.

  • i think ferri is probably the best giselle ever

  • Well... once I've seen Zakharova's version even Alessandra Ferri isn't good enough...

  • I beg your pardon, not good enough? Are you able to define the criteria for "not good enough"? Is she unable to dance the choreography? Do you have the intellectual capacity to understand the difference between a lyric and a virtouso? Ms. Ferri is understood to be the quintessential interpreter of the Romantic style - next in line after Carla Fracci. For sheer technical prowess, Zahkarova surely surpasses, but doesn't support the statement you've made.

  • Oh, come on. What I love about Zakharova's interpretation is exactly her lyricism, not only her virtuosism. I haven't said that Ferrri is lousy or anything like that. I simply like more Zakarova and "even Ferri" doesn't compare with her. But I see you don't have the intellectual capacity to read what "even Alessandra Ferri" means. Bye.

  • That was beautiful... She's so graceful and fragile...
