  • Omg! I miss Canada soo much. There's nothing better than falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the loons.

  • i was watching family guy, and they said "we heard a loon". i was like wtf?? so i googled it, and THANK GOD i found this cause i wouldve been wtf all night

  • Family guy brought me here! :)

  • Lois Griffin and Peter Griffin We heard a loon..

  • Beautiful.

A bit cliche (think campy B-movie that takes place at a cabin in the woods), but still beautiful.

  • what a beautiful and peaceful sound

  • You are hearing the loon's tremolo; a call of distress. Probably indicating that this boat with its video is too close. Too many incidents like this cause the loons to leave lakes and can also result in stress to the young.

  • Actually all those incidents are because I love to fry up loons and eat them!!

    MMMMMMMMMMM TASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its so beautiful

  • Will there ever be anything more beautiful then the different languages of animals to us? Humans. We consider ourselves complex beings...yet other creatures surpass us in so many ways, in knowledge, beauty, and how they live even. We are imperfect. They are not.

  • waah waaah waaahhhh

  • Get to BED!!! This isn't loon time!!!

  • I love loons :)

  • Loons have such a beautiful call

  • Stephen king keeps mentioning loons

  • MINNESOTA PRIDE 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The way it echoes in the forest is haunting. -3

  • 0:11

  • I think that was the loneliest sound I ever heard.

  • OMG, the loon talks at 0:24

  • I was actually woken up by this bird call when I was camping just off of Canmore Alberta, it was beautiful, a wonderful bird that deserves to be on our one dollar coin.

  • lol When ever I hear this bird call i get terrible memories from the game Amnesia.

  • ...norbert? :O

  • probably my favourite sound in the universe.

  • I was sleeping in a tent up in the adk. mountains and I thought it was a girl laughing/crying I was really afraid, but they are so rare from where I am it was my first sighting/hearing of the loon!!!

  • what really sucks is that us humans ruin nature. in lots of places what used to be nature is now cities ande buildings

ps 2 ppls are oil diggers

  • saw one of these in my pond in my backyard...thee coolest thing ever

  • when my family went to algonquin we went canoeing and came within paddle length distance of a pair of these beautiful birds. i felt so lucky

  • wow awesome

  • He's like okay that's enough *plunge*

  • I love the sound of loons. I'm pretty sure the Harry Potter movies use the call of the loon also.

  • I HEAR THIS FUCKING EVERYWHERE

  • Translation:

"Where y'all at you punk ass bitches n' shit?."

  • Great Vid, thanks !!!

  • i love the call they make yet its kinda creepy lol. this farm i pass while riding bike is the only place i hear them :)

  • I have a part in a play called "On Golden Pond" and i'm playing Billy Ray. I am required to look up this call and learn it lol.

  • this reminds of when i go camping so beautiful

  • We listened to this after reading One Morning in Maine. Thanks!

  • Ki Ki Ki Ki Ma Ma Ma Ma

  • play this on a p.a. speaker. This should be on all emergency vehicles. Just the good sounding calls.

  • reminds me of camp crystle lake

  • Comment removed

  • Makes a good alarm clock sound

  • Reminds me of waking up next to the lake at my grandparents' cabin every summer. Nearly forgot how beautiful and soothing their call is.

  • I used to live in Canada, this sound reminds me so much of home...

  • i want 2 hear the loone loon

  • Blood-Curdling. Beautiful

  • They arent endangered here in canada. Im not sure about the states

  • @TattooCulture weeeeeeeeo canada ♥

  • @sammelina12 yea. best country in the world

  • @TattooCulture lmao. only the best livin in the best.

  • @sammelina12 you know it!!

  • dude just imagine having that as an alarm clock....O_O

  • ahhh I love the sound of loons, my summer is surrounded by these sounds...

  • I drove my cat crazy with this!

  • What a beautiful Bird!

  • When I was growing up we would go to Loon Lake by Vergas, MN every summer. I would hear this at every sunset.

The call just makes you feel so incredibly alone, like there's nobody else around for 100 miles. One of a few mesmerizing sounds that can relax you and freak you out at the same time. Very trance inducing.

  • @kasteman1 i know the feeling. i especially love it when they are far enough that you can use the hand thing and they still hear you and call back. its like you are having a real convo with a loon

  • such an eerie sound.. are they endangered?

i was in montana most of last summer and their calls rang through the valley.

fishing one time in spoon lake the current was taking me towards two of them, which as i got closer they started yelling, more and more panicked. when i finally snapped out of my baked state, and realized they were probably going to attack me if i got any closer i started paddling away as fast as i could haha.

  • sounds like a friggin wolf

  • yellow billed loon im guessing

  • This is absolutely beautiful...It sends chills down my spine.

  • No it's not. it's annoying. try living a summer with them.

  • @DGreenJellyBean

then go somewhere else, the loons were there long before you !!!!!!!!!

  • A true ambassador of the northern wilderness.

  • one of my favorite songs in the world

  • I love their call! Thanks!

  • Yes, this is THE voice of the northern wilderness that I fell asleep to, woke to and worked to from mid April until late October -early November. It is unreplaceable. I see some other videos here teaching how to do loon calls. Please don't EVER use them during nesting & chick rearing seasons, and don't approach loons on the water. Far too many chicks & adults have died this way.

  • This is what Thoreau heard on Walden. The loon would dive under his boat and come up a ways off and laugh at him!

It was actually fleeing from him! Thanks for the wonderful video!

  • this loon does not sound like debbie gibson.

  • @gaydanzig Is Debbie Gibson the lady who starred in Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus?

  • I was watersking up in harrison michigan and while i was waiting for the boat to come around a loon came out of water about 6 feet from me. At first i was kinda scared because it just came out of nowhere. It was so cooL!

  • Are there any other birds or woodland creatures that have calls similar to the loon's?

I live in North Western New Jersey and I'm hearing a call that sounds similar to that one, and I can't figure out what it is. :O

  • live in minnesota, the loon has the sweetest sound ive ever heard

  • That is such a beautiful sound

  • @IndigoCat17 try sleeping to it its like a lullaby and waking up to it just makes your day

  • Cool sound ^^

  • Don't let the oil companies touch these waters.

  • @Bojaxs

    They have no reason to.

  • @Bojaxs Fortunately this is an inland lake :)

  • @kingslice75 the oil companies want the great lakes. those are inland.

  • @Bojaxs dont worry Canada is such a vast expanse of wilderness i'm sure these birds will outlive our race

  • @Bojaxs

and here we have the uneducated masses fearmongering about the oil-boogeyman. Why would oil companies be interested in a tiny lake in minnesota you fucking halfwit?

  • @4863440 Oil companies, chemical companies, unscrupulous mines. Anyone who'd want to dump waste here.

We also all saw what happened in yellowstone.

  • @ferretyluv

go watch fern gully some more

  • @4863440 First of all, why would I want to watch that shitty movie? Second, Fern Gully was about logging, not irresponsible dumping.

I don't even know why I'm bothering to reply to you when you're clearly just a sockpuppet.

  • Camping on Burntside and other Echo trail lakes,I fall asleep to the sounds of loons and bullfrogs,God made this perfect world and all of us, what a beautiful download

  • What a haunting noise

  • I heard the guy who filmed this drowned after he fell in the water.

  • Stellar video, thank you posting.

  • The loons......the loons........

  • ohhhh, lookkk... the loons

  • the sound to me is calming :)

  • i love the sound of a loon good vid suprized it came that close

  • That loon has been hanging out with coyotes for too long"

  • Maybe Piquette was the only one who heard the crying of the loons...

  • It's a beautiful bird. I heard one once on Puget Sound.

  • I find their callings to be peaceful and calming, especially when I'm at the cottage.

  • that was cool. Bird makes a lot of noise

  • I feel like i am there, wonderful!!

  • wow thats freaky, all my life , allways wondered what it would be like to be that close and see it ?whoever took this footage ???? YOU ROCK!

  • i love loons, beautiful birds.

  • NIIIIIICE

  • Those calls indicate that the loon is annoyed by the presence of the human(s) taking the video.

  • Comment removed

  • Get me a loonie, fool! Lol.

  • So shrill, so wild... Thanks for the video!

  • in some of those calls it is like a trembelo and a wail in one call

  • simply amazing!! one of my favorite bird calls! This is why i love Minnesota so much. i would so love to go camping more often and go on a nature walk and just get away from the city for once ^_^.

  • loons are in other places then Minnesota. There also in NY. Like in the Aderondack Mountains. The aderondack mountains are beautiful with the loons calling throughout them.

  • it didnt die, loons swim underwater often, thts all. and its making the calls because it is trying to communicate with another loon.

  • wat did they do 2 that loon they like... killed it!

  • Easily one of my top 5 favorite sounds of all time . . couldn't tell you what the other 4 are though :-)

  • i love thre calls :D

  • dude i love these birds...when i was in canada all i did was listen to them

  • That is really beautiful! I've never seen a loon before and I live in MN! I'm glad our state bird is the loon.

  • i could fall asleep to loon calls i can do a long call with my hands! lol and the loon flute i got at Algonquin Park lol

  • oggleman,

I have paddled by loons many times. If they were fearful they would have flown off. I think they were just being territorial.

  • Wow, just beautiful.

  • Oh, I miss listening to loon calls while I sleep. These birds are just so amazing. I really have missed them since I moved down south.

  • this is my ringtone noww :)

  • I think it is either annoyed by or afraid of the people right next to them, or both. They are territorial birds.

  • ahh so pretty ^_^

  • b-E-A UTIFUL

  • that thing is fucking loud!

  • Thank you, Stunning touch of nature and we are lucky enough to wake up to it.

Your time and work is beautiful! *S*

  • Damn thats spine tinglingly beautiful.

  • I got a chill almost immediately...

  • I can do that call

  • upper east of mn?

  • Makes me miss MN

  • Eire yet beautiful. =]

  • when it echoes its beautiful

  • sure is..the echoes are what give it the eerie yet surrealistic feel,

  • they make that noise when they think they are in danger.

  • That is my favorite sound when I'm camping on a lake in the woods!

  • So THAT'S what that noise is? Christ. Whenever I heard it in movies, I thought it was a canine of some sort.

  • Hehe every time I hear that I think of Pet Sematary. I love that book.

  • I want this as my new ringtone!!!!

  • I've been there! I love the loon call!

  • Is it odd that I don't like the sound of the call? It scares me. Really scares me. We hear them up at our camp in the mountains and... They scare me... Not the bird itself, just the call.

  • Outstanding capture of the male loon. Only the male does the tremolo, the sound heard coming from this loon. Well done and thanks for sharing.

  • The last sound the Loon made was funny and then it looked like it got pulled into the water. lol

  • damnit i mean endangered??? lol

  • The Common loon is not endangered, and if visiting a remote region of Canada or the Adirondacks (or a remote spot in the lower 48 in winter) they are (how ironically) a common bird

  • aren't these birds extinct?

  • i mean extinct???

  • Nope

  • retard

  • Thats so loud it echos threw the forest

  • I love loons.

The sounds they make are awesome.

Thanks for bringing this to us =)

  • That tremolo sound the Loon was making actual meant it felt threatened. Probably because humans were nearby. Nice Video

  • Yeah, Right!

  • @lacosanostra222 so what does it mean when the loon makes the real loud and long sound that you can hear from far distances?

  • Lucky you!

  • This is beautiful. Thank you for posting this!

  • Loons are great creatures. I'd also like to see video of them disappearing and resurfacing.

  • Great Clip. Brought me chills. I love those birds

  • that was very cool

  • Very nice clip
