back when a little additude and a little gyrating would get a girl noticed. now there are 6th graders running around showing more skin that this whole movie did! smh, oh well.
This version is better than Natalie Wood's. She actually captures the essence of the real Gypsy Rose Lee (which is hard to do, since Lee's actual strip routines would take like, a half hour because of the jokes!)
Gypsy Rose Lee actually preferred the term "stripper". It's only modern "stippers" (who, let's face it...don't real take off all that much) that give the term a tacky twist.
"so if you be g for more *bum bum* i give it too you. AND WE'LL HAVE A REAL GOO- *shoulder look* Beg! "
Just awesome. ^_^ I loved this movie so much! Me and sister did the whole "if mama was married" thing when we were younger. She's a blonde I'm a brunet so that worked out fantastic. AAAAaaaaaa good times....
That is a testament to how tastes can change - back in the day, the period that this film takes place, burlesque was considered "trashy" - all these years later, we can now appreciate the artform... ;)
Is that an ostrich feather boa?

bob mackie is the best gown designer but that dress is so un even
cher12342000 2 years ago
the blue dress is a "starter" lol - check Makie's designs at the end of the clip ;)

@cher12342000 It works for what is going in the story though. Not only was the dress not even finished, it was going to be worn by another performer.
Bob Mackie was smart to think of that, proving your statement that he's the best :P

I always say that if acting doesn't work out for me, I'm going into burlesque.
But unfortunately, burlesque isn't like this anymore. So I may be out of luck.

Actually, from what I've read (somewhere), bur-lee-que is making something of a quiet comeback. Look up "Neo-Burlesque" in Wikipedia.

same here, i have always wanted to be a performer for broadway and a burlesque artist.

I absolutely agree. This version seems a bit watered down in comparison, but Broadway's always better live than it is on screen.

burlesque was so classy, no burlesque artist should even be called a stripper

@McGeeToo then in future we may consider a stripper from male Nclubs a form of art?
