  • They're not going to build it in Fremont, CA? If yes, that'd be Northern CA.

  • I heard this car does 100-300miles with an optional battery, I also read this is all electric? The real question is when u have to recharge the battery how long does it take and where do u actually leech off energy when ur away from home?

Gas pumps take like 5 minutes but I assume that this battery is far bigger than the batteries we have in our electronics like big RC and charger that it would take a couple hours to recharge? fast recharge 5 minutes = kill battery?

  • @AntDX316 Dont worry my friend, you buy car. i set up business to sell you charge battery, 3 minute top. since you dont want to way to charge the battery a handsome feed will apply to avoid any inconvenience in your top busy schedule.

  • @hispanicuscorpus it takes 3 minutes to recharge the whole thing?

  • its about time someone made an electric vehicle that doesn't look like a roller skate or a box and wont be north of 100K

  • what is the front grill on an electric car doing? Is it for battery cooling or something like that?

  • I say all EVs should have solar panels cuz on any day with a minimum of solar radiation, they could just sit and charge...free...

  • I want it =( But maybe its 2013 when they deliver to Germany...

  • I luv ya guyz you safe my car instrests in future!

  • forget the volt and leaf

  • looks like a very futuristic jag

  • that car is damn sexaay! if only i can afford it =(

  • live longer Tesla motors..

  • when he pulled the cover off i was like, so THATS where i parked my Maserati...

  • The time is now.

  • i fucking love this car and the roaster too they r fucking awesome on the outside and the inside , good looking and briliant just like the way i like my womens to be

  • Driving a Gasoline Car is embarrassing.

  • If it wasn't really good, why would Chevrolet and Nissan copy it? Does anyone know what is the authonomy of one battery charge?

  • ugly!!!!

  • that is fucking sexy!!!

  • Its a lot easier to build your own electric power station than it is to drill for( War may be needed) oil, suck it up,send it to a refinery, turn it into gas, ship it to a gas station and maintain as gas car.

  • Don't forget the batteries are all under the floor and the motor/electronics are all down between the rear wheels. That means the front is all one big trunk! Combined with the cargo room in the back this car actually has more room than some SUVs!

  • it looks like a cross between a maseratti gran turismo s and an aston martin. i love it! :D

  • i wonder how long the car can last.. 10 20 years?

  • @declanmoir Electricity is already being used to get cars started, and use things like the horn, lights, and other features dependent on electricity. The logic is "why not have electricity power the whole car?" So just think of the logic for this:

Hydrogen Powered Cars = long, convoluted process to extract hydrogen from water to make fuel.

Electric Car = Plug in, charge, unplug, and drive off.

In case you didn't realise, we already started the electric car the minute we used batteries in them.

  • I want one.They do look good.

  • its actaully good looking imo

  • Doing battery swaps will cost a fortune at fuel stations unless battery condition is established. The weght alone will mandate health and safety controls including specialist equipent and insurance.

Disposal/recycling will be a bitch too.

Further, the exotic metals are likely to be from China. COST! Plus, their environmental damage to the planet.

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

  • Bad copy of Aston Martin DB9 with electric motor!!! Are you calling this Innovation?

After China US started to copy... hahahah!

  • @Saltanatim well, china is fucking useless. fuck you

  • Its cool til you've run out of power in the middle of nowhere.........

  • costs:

    160 miles range 57k

    300 miles range 65k

  • tesla makes my car look so dirty and oily

  • @cardboardboxxes its electric

  • @donzaliko lol yeah i know, thats y i feel my car is dirty and oily

  • @cardboardboxxes ahh sorry thats for my inattentively

  • bankruptcy fraud

  • this technology is almost ready to be picked up by the public imo. if all car manufacturers could come up with some sort of standardised battery cartridge that are swapped around at petrol stations then it would get going big time.

  • @Plazma360 that's a good idea

  • @Plazma360 I just had a long conversation with one of my professors about that exact topic today. lol

  • :O when I saw the car I couldn't really breath for some time

  • It's about time the great inventor who bought us so much is finally getting credit today, and his name on something. Like the wise man once said "I'm not angry that they stole my idea's, I'm just disappointed that they didn't have any of their own to share". Nikola Tesla

  • @DsFToXiiC great man.

but only few people can pronounce that phrase..

    Mr tesla rules...

    free energy, please...

    many thanks 4 the video...

  • @DsFToXiiC agreed, but tesla was bankrupted by J P Morgan and then all his work impounded by the US with the result it has been impossible to carry on research into Teslas world changing ideas for 60 years. I don't know how much of Teslas actual work is in this car but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't just a brand name. If you know Eric Dollards and Konstantin Meyel's work then you know what I mean......(both on youtube btw)

  • @avoncliffrichard1 I do know that tesla did something with nuclear batteries, maybe that's what was somehow incorporated into the car, maybe not the nuclear battery itself, but something along the lines of that

  • imagine the bill after crashing tht

  • It looks a Jaguar XF and Maserati GranTurismo.... BEAUTIFUL

  • This car is beautiful~~^^

  • @idontcare80 the reason I said the Nissan is crappy is because the powertrain is slightly similar of that the ev1 and ev2 had better mile than the Nissan leaf. The testy roaster 1 gen push 248 hp and 248 torque but get 160 mile. So yea the 100 mile it clam is actually 80. I have read journalistreviews from japan

  • Please Tesla, build it. It is the most beautiful all electric car out there.

  • I have to admit as a gearhead i rue the day when cars like this are all over on the road. But admittedly im the market that makes the most sense to buy one. Since I like the newest and brightest things(im 19) im willing to buy one. But also since I am stubborn, I will never give up my 1938 Plymouth 4dr. So I could drive the tesla to work but have the 38 to play with on the weekends, or when the tesla runs out of juice . Too bad its way to expensive to consider it a viable option.

  • No regenerative braking? thats crazy. Looks like it has regular but large brakes. imagine if they gave it regen braking.

  • this car is only 50k and it's beautiful

  • lover the price and i will buy it

  • Why would anyone build shit in California, you have to jump through bureaucratic hoops all day long, not to mention the tax.

  • Once this technology drops into the mid 20k range, petroleum technology will be FUCKED. Automakers better start picking up the pace. GM is about to release the Volt which honestly pales in comparison to this already. Obsolete before even released. What a joke.

  • I hope GM does not try those monkey business to close Tesla's doors like they did with Tucker.

  • meh my M5 is just fine with me thank you

  • @Konformation07

    xD

In yo' dreams home boy... :D

  • @rock3tcat ....ok then believe what you will but I can walk in the garage right now and look dead at it so instead of questioning one's life you need to improve yours

  • I can't believe anyone would diss this solution on environmental concerns. It takes MUCH less pollution to create it, power it, and even dispose of the batteries than a gas car.

I think the real problem is that *some* people just want to fight zestiness. Just as they force Ritalin on boys who act like boys, they try to force Priuses on men who act like men.

Sorry. We want efficiency AND style AND performance...and we will have it all.

I'm saving up for this car!

  • Thank You Tesla.

  • It looks like a jaguar XF and a Maserati grand sport combined This is a good thing :D

  • @artx4321

    word

  • It looks like a Lotus because its a Lotus.

  • I would so buy this! the car just looks perfect and everything seems to fit

  • I'm a mustang owner, and i'll buy this car, looks great! Daily drive, ehehe.. :D

  • There are also dozens of advantages to switching the pollution to power plants and away from automobiles:

    1) Power plant emissions are much easier to control vs millions of cars

    2) Power plants aren't located in major population areas, which means people are less exposed to harmful gases, particularly in cities

    3) The infrastructure for an EV nation would cost much less. How much does it cost to ship gasoline across the country to gas stations vs sending power across a power line to stations?

  • Comment removed

  • @Brendonbosy I have just a couple of questions.

    1. if our power grid (for right now) is only producing energy for cities then what do you think governments would do about the increased stress by millions of cars charging off of this power if everyone was to buy an electric car?

    2. how would the consumers of these cars deal with the cost of replacing lithium ion batteries when they went through so many recharges?

I would love to buy an electric car but how can this can be dealt with.

  • @Vorcor0

Most of the time, electric cars would be charging at night when the electric grid is under minimal stress. Essentially, this means that electric cars would very insignificantly affect the current infrastructure even if millions (hopefully) are produced.

    2. I'm not sure what Tesla guarantees, but the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf both have 8 year/100,000 mile warranties on their batteries so replacement costs shouldn't be a hindrance in that respect.

  • @cross3chris to 2. Tesla says that after 7 years your battery lost 30% of its power, so you might just reach 70% of your starting distance. a new battery set costs for the Roadster 13k CHF (thats what i was told)

it's only a question of how money dou you spend in developement of new batteries and recycling i suppose

  • @Vorcor0

My friend, you make a VERY good point. I would also love to know how the government will be dealing with the tremendous amount of electricity that will be used by all these electric vehicles.

  • @Brendonbosy Not to mention the infrastructure is already there as the power grid. Your electric car would get cleaner and cheaper to drive as the grid gets cleaner sources and the smart grid starts to be implemented. You can really get the most out of an electric car by installing solar panels on your home, pay them off in about 3-5 years with the money you WON'T be spending on gasoline plus whatever the power company gives you for any excess power you make. Then drive for FREE!

  • @Brendonbosy ironically Nikola Tesla is the one who provided both the power plants and means to send power across lines to power stations. Tesla thought of everything.

  • @Brendonbosy As soon as power is generated and sent, there is a power loss factor. Not to mention when you have the entire nation on electric vechiles, this puts a huge load on the electrical grid. Our grid is so old and outdated, that it can barely sustain present levels. Our infrastructure is old, we have no budget for a new infrastructure and electric cars are still expensive. While there is more unemployment than ever etc, etc...... Great suggestion tho...

  • @Mr145616

Average power loss in transmission is 6.5%. Remember power is sent preferentially from power plants nearest you. Also, the grid can in fact handle around 70% of American car owners switching to electric *today* according to a study carried out by the Department of Energy that's easily googled. As the transition will be much more gradual than that, and we'll be upgrading the grid at the same time, there's no real issue. Remember, most charging occurs at night when there's a surplus.

  • @Brendonbosy you sir are a smart man.

  • I don't understand where people are getting the notion that electric cars are no better than gas cars. The best possible efficiency a gasoline engine car return is about 20%, and thats coming from your hated hybrids like Prius. Even if an electric car's source is from fossil fuel power plants, its still MUCH more efficient to produce power from 1 power plant vs 1 million gas engines.

  • There is a line of haters behind every successful company.

  • I hate to burst anyones bubble here...im all for green and think this car is gorgeous...but reality is not very pretty, especially for tesla. Tesla has never turned a profit on any of their roadsters, what makes people think that they increased range by 100% while moving from a light weight lotus chassy to a full size 4 door sedan all the while reducing the sticker price by 50% from the initial roadster?

people are living in a fantasy land if you believe these numbers...any investors here?

  • I like it. just saw Running On Lithium and that I like much more.

  • @algea07 No need to wait 5-10 years, thousands of swaps have already been made on taxi trials in Japan and other countries are in trial stage as well I believe.

There are so many pluses for ev's, no oil and air filters to buy, low noise and gas pollution, but my favorite is that they drive development dollars into renewable energy production.

Electric motors run for decades maintenance free while combustion engines are just a big spare parts con job gone wild!

  • Energy sources without the need for fuel or energy input exist ,But the Establishment doesn't want ppl to know this,Get a REAL working magnet motor at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Be a part of the energy revolution!

  • Now for 2012 we need to make a new redesigned model that has the battery swapped for refueling. Swapping an empty battery for a fully charged one would be almost like swapping wheels in a car race at a pit stop. No one would win an auto race if the drivers would have to make tires at the pit stop. Just swap them. Drivers doesn't have to recharge the batteries. Fuel stations can do the job. All the drivers have to do is swap them!!! Same time as filling up at the pump!

  • @V8Fiero2M8 i think the Tesla s has a battery pack designed for quick change, but no charging stations yet. i'd say it'd be 5 - 10 years before you see them.

  • @algea07 No it doesn't. 3.5 hours. Not what I was talking about. I was talking about modifying the Tesla design to have a swappable battery that would be recharged at stations rather than by individuals. The individual would only visit refuel stations for a several minute battery swap. The time it would take to fill up with gas rather than wait 3.5 hours to recharge it himself. That's my idea. 3.5 hr recharging impractical. 5 min swapping practical. Batteries would be cartridges.

  • @V8Fiero2M8 i said quick change, a swappable battery pack. not quick charge.

  • Looks Good.

  • i want one, and a solar/wind power recharge station

  • that car looks really good !

  • inserting an electrode into water, right frequency and amplitude can seperate hydrogen from oxygen, creating a combustable gas composed of the 2, engineering a combustion chamber, able to start with gasoline or whatever, and changeover to oxy/hydro would make for an interesting, cheap, clean energy source. " water "

The problem with the patents office being filled with electrode and other design related systems, is just another block in the road, our legal community unethically enforces

  • will the new teslas be J1772 compatible?

  • It looks like the offspring of an Aston Martin Vantage that knocked up a Mazda while on holidays in Japan.

  • @punchthedog That's not far-fetched. The chief designer for Tesla, Franz von Holzhausen, was the chief designer at Mazda until 2008.

  • water H2O

  • electricity is just another form of energy,

Inserting an electrode into water with the proper frequency and amplitude, generates a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen gases, which have been demonstrated as being capable of being fed directly into the combustion chambers of an internat combustion engine, and operating as a reliable source of fuel. Explore the patent applications of differing configurations of electrodes, google the entire subject.

    Water is a better answer

  • @lassiecox You would still need to put in 3x the energy you get out, lithium polymer batteries are much more efficient

  • @lassiecox I do think Honda is right in saying that Hydrogen is the future. Their FCX Clarity vehicle proves that it is possible. It's still years away, as fueling stations are few and far between. In the meantime, at least electric and gas-electric hybrids are steps in the right direction.

  • think some people are missing the big picture here. Electric cars combined with wind power is a deadly combo. People charge when it's peak win hours or even with solar. The fuel cells open alot of flexiblity on the power grid. It evens out demand. Something that cannot be under estimated.

  • Looks awesome :D seems we are well on our way to weening ourselves off oil :)

  • @big5824 and the factory, is where ? exactly ? and the assembly line ?

The shell oil company put on a highschool contest of which high-school could degign a car to get eh maximium miles per gallon.

2 schools designed and bulit one cylinder vehicles which got more than 2000 miles per gallon. VW just intruduced a car that gets more than 100 MPG

Where does the electricity come from ? more than 505 FROM BURNING COAL

  • @lassiecox The electricity doesnt have to come from burning oil does it, it could just as easily come from nuclear or renewable sources, so what im saying is we now have one end of the 0 net emmisions complete, we just need to wait for solar power etc to catch up in 10 or 15 years.

Also whats the school thing got to do with anything? Likewise its possible to get 1000s of miles per effective gallon with an electric car, it doesnt mean its practical though.

  • @big5824 doesnt really matter where the electricity is generated, the important thing is it is used to charge overnight in most cases, so doesnt go to waste, power stations run 24 hours . also, 80% of all journeys in the world are less than 30 miles per day so an electric car suits most people.

  • @big5824 More than 50% of electricity in the USA comes from the coalfired power plants, The USA is sitting on more than 25% of the worlds known reserves. New CFPP's are emissionless. don't be nieve.

  • @lassiecox Im not being niave, im thinking about the future.....after all there is only a finite supply of coal, at some point, whether its tomorrow or in a hundred years, we will run out of coal and oil, and at that point will be forced to depend on other energy supplies. Im just saying whats the point in waiting until we are forced to change?

  • making a sample, ment to get deposits does not a manufacturing company make.

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha sup when obamas gone ? The jig

  • Wheres the factory ? ha ha ha ha ha

  • Where is the factory ? It would be interesting to see elon musks idea of an automobile plant---ha ha ha ha ha

  • B---S--T

  • I love the Aston Martin look. It's fucking sexy!

  • @thepibbxman ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • @lassiecox im sure tesla is british, isnt it?

  • it looks alot like the jaguar specialy the back its a copy...it blows

  • @michaelba86 wheres the factory ?

  • @lassiecox fremont ca

  • Very nice I also would like to have one

  • Bravo :)

    I want one right now

    my doughters are exciting to

  • So who do i have to kill to get on for free? lol

  • im guessing within 50 years or so we will completely wipe the need for fossil fuels and such out. :)

  • @revfan54 Wheres the factory, the photos, tooling lines etc etc etc ??????? ha ha ha ha

  • @lassiecox ehhh who needs all that lol, i was being a little dramatic with my statement if you couldnt tell

  • @revfan54 It was an interesting study to see how elon came to be, hostile takeovers, something barry could get up in under ha ha ha ha ha

  • They should make an all carbon fiber option. Carbon Fiber would make the care 20 - 30 % more fuel efficient which would equate to about 360 - 380 miles on a full charge if you get the 300 miles battery pack. It would significantly drive up costs though and carbon fiber doesn't recycle easily. High end consumers would eat up the costs thought bringing it down for everyone else. Also I would appreciate a touch button option instead of the giant touch screen. If your driving you would look away.

  • It would be cool cruising around without having to worry about a massive fuel bill.

  • good bye petrol cars and maybe, hello EV

  • Is Toyota working with Tesla?

I read somewhere "Toyota teamed up with Tesla" for something.

  • @rokusho7 yeah Toyota are teaming up to make their own pure EV's

  • wow

  • The beauty of petrol is that we can fill up our cars at any time for a few minutes and just go. With "tesla' we have to wait up to maybe 20 hours for it to charge before we can use it. This car isn't the future, its going back in time. They should follow Honda's FCX example with hydrogen instead.

  • @sarzamineiran dude theres no beauty of petrol.

  • @sarzamineiran I think they have the charging down to five hours already.

  • your 20 hour figure it not correct. its more along the lines of 8-12 hours most likely on 120v charging station. with 240v which many homes have it can be like 3 hours. sure your not gonna go traveling across the country willy nilly in this thing but it serves its purpose as a human transport.

  • @lumanaty

Some people did it, one guy traveled across the US in a EV1. Or some other production EV. :D

  • @lumanaty Thats nice and all but are you forgetting how the electricity is produced? Most likely by burning fossil fuels. You aren;t solving the problem, just putting a pretty face on it.

  • @sarzamineiran are you forgetting basic physics?? an electric car is about 90% efficient and it gets its power from a power station most likely coal and that is about 30-35% efficient. petrol powered cars get there gas from a fueling station, and they get it from a truck, and they get it from a refinery *uses massive amount of energy to make gasoline*, and they get it from tankers, and the tankers get it from wells.... see the carbon train is much longer with gas then electric.

  • @lumanaty stop pulling statistics out of your ass

  • @lumanaty add to that all the inefficiencies with running your motor at traffic lights. how many cars are sitting their wasting away gas in traffic any minute of any day.

  • @lumanaty Where is a picture of the factory ? I can google the showrooms all over the wrld, But its the factory that counts. All I see and hear are are PR Stunts

  • @lumanaty Lets be realistic here... ok i give u that it is more greener and all but who gives a rats ass if it isn't economical? Who the hell are you marketing to? when the majority of vehicle owners esp. the ones that can't meet emission standards because they can't afford a new vehicle or costs to repair, are in the middle to lower class. Tesla Model S price - $49,900 do you think that is economical?

  • @lumanaty I love to (test-)drive the Tesla Radster, but not because it's environment-friendly...

in my eye's it's not so clear if the Tesla is better than a typ. gas car.

Because for ex. I see the huge battery (480kg) full of Lithium (not so environment-friendly). In a case of a crash this Lithium could go for ex. in the water supply...

I'm also sceptical about safety, because the battery (very heavy) is behind the driver/co-driver.

But all in all, I just love the acceleration at any time!

  • @lumanaty I hear people say that a lot but I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about mechanical efficiency? Thermal efficiency? I really hope you're not calculating volumetric efficiency in your gas car numbers, that wouldn't make for a fair comparison at all.

  • @lumanaty and where does the coal come from?

its trucked or trained in, dug up with diesel powered excavators and so on..

it just moves emissions to a less visible location, allowing the operators to feel 'green'

now if you use hydro, wind or solar to recharge, then yep, its a great idea..

  • @lumanaty ,finally someone see's between the lines, well pointed out

now if only they could get 400miles out of 1 charge

  • @lumanaty At least in this case, some maybe a lot of people could end up making there own power, its kind of hard to do that with oil.

  • @sarzamineiran this is true, but they are starting to make charging stations for electric cars run by solor power.

  • @revfan54 They, ? ha ha ha ha ha ,

  • @sarzamineiran Don't be so short sighted. First off, even if that were true the model S is still much more energy efficient than any gasoline powered car or hybrid. Then on top of that you should recognize the fact that there's more than one way to generate electricity. The electric companies know that (which is why they're investing in these methods. Not to mention the generation of electricity via solar panels can easily be employed as a residential solution.

  • @sarzamineiran Covering you roof in solar panels pays for it self in 4 years, and if its generating enough electricity you could be getting a check in the mail instead of a bill by selling extra electricity back to the grid. Not to mention theres also damns that generate electricity, and solar plants, wind turbines etc. Fossil fuel is not the only source of energy in 2010.

  • @sarzamineiran it's 3.5 hours from home charger and less from service station high power chargers. With that you get from 250-300 miles range.

    From a normal outlet (240v,13amp here) I think it's 8 hours overnight.

That seems completely usable to me. How often do you drive for more than 300 miles without stopping for a few hours?

Also look up 'better place' which are pushing automated battery swap stations with the big car manufacturers. That solves the problem also.

  • neeeeeeeeeeeed

  • Finally a eletric car that's bigger than the crappy Nissan leaf and more driving range then the leaf in a long shot. 0-60 in 5.6 and 300 mpg. That's a shock. I am a petrol head and laugh a rc eletric car. But this i will buy it if is around 40,000 I don't care if i have to finance one if possible.

  • @SageRai its around 57,000

  • @SageRai He will accept your deposit, If you sign his agreement he may not deliver, and you could lose your deposit money

  • @SageRai its 300 mooc (miles on one charge)

  • @SageRai Crappy Nissan Leaf? What's crappy about it?

  • @SageRai i agree the leaf is gonna flop

  • @SageRai According to the official website, it is $49,000 with the $7,500 US Federal tax credit base price along with a $5,000 reservation if you're that wanting to get it when it first comes out.

  • 0-60 in 5.6 seconds

    300 miles per charge

    me wants one!

  • i love the idea of electric and saving the enviroment but when these cars take over i will miss the sound of a gas powered lambo revving

  • @DaChamp188 NOT just saving the environment, but ending this stupid war!

  • Its amusing to watch all the little nerds writhing and contorting themselves thinking that the end of the use of fossil fuels is neigh. LOL!! And that all of a sudden world peace will happen.

    Stupid little nerds. LOL

  • When are they coming out with a V8 model?

  • Who'd want a coal powered car?

  • We are gonna sell our Honda Odyssey to buy this car
