  • Fuck, whats up with his head in the pic? lol.

  • Does anyone know why they say "later man, I SAID LATER" in a lot of their songs and skits on this album? Is it a movie quote or something.

  • Which song you think sampled this music better? This or T.R.O.Y by Pete Rock And CL?

  • I was like 9 or 10 when this came out but I still remember this song being one of the dopest on the album... I wish I still had this classic!! The boy raps smooth...

  • And Added 2 Favorites ! ;)

  • These guys are lyrical genius'. Wish the fellas today would follow a little of what guys like this did. Take the lyrics of the 80's and early 90's and mix it with todays beats....would love to hear that.

  • THIS IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME BEATS !!!

  • Brilliant. Just brilliant. A lesson for those who think crap like Jay-Z is real hiphop.

  • @spark32uk yor fckin gay for that comment. how is jay z crap? get the fuck outa here. u dnt stand for urself u just follow the pack of haters. he sucks now but he is semented in hop hop history. dude is a crazy rapper. hes an asshole but hes a great rapper so dont say he's crap cuz u obviously know nothing

  • i feel like black sheep didn't get enough credit in hip hop...

  • I got the record... this sample (guitar) came from the version of "Today" by Jefferson Airplane...

  • i can't lie i love this version than the video!!!!!!!

  • the original cd jacket doesn't credit any samples on this song, which is clearly wrong. both the guitar and drums are sampled.

  • This is Jefferson Airplane's version of Today not Tom Scott.

  • ordered LIIT= long island ice tea?

  • Age 15, I listened to this album and nothing else for 3 months straight after I bought it, and it's still so. damn. fresh.

  • @Ma2quared Word by word, i would say the exact same thing, only differance, is that i dubed the tape from my freind.. I tried playing the tape in around 2000, soundede so bad..Guess tape died from all those auto-reverse and repeat abuses

  • I remember a time when this brand of Hip Hop wasn't considered "underground". 1988-1995 maybe 1996 was the greatest era for Hip Hop music.

  • Damn, those dogs can flow.

  • so much better than the official video/vevo version

  • Haha the first time I heard the song -- went into a playlist, I love Black Sheep now that I've heard some of thier songs. :)

  • this is one of the best tracks in hip hop history!

  • this version is much better than second edit.

  • This was the album version. I actually like this version more than the second version

  • Will they reminisce over you

  • dope album.

  • At first I was dissapointed that this wasn't the same version as in the video. Then after awhile I started to like the intro sample. Sounds like a Vietnam movie or something...

  • that little small guitar sample makes this song a classic

  • i thik the lyrics might help/

  • Jefferson Airplane - Today

  • @trademark1874 yeah i think this is 'tom scott - today' isnt it i dunno

  • Sure it "Today", but it Is by Jefferson Airplane..

  • @itchyscratcher No, it's Jefferson Airplane's "Today."

  • @slevels1 that's jefferson airplane - today

  • @slevels1 no doubt, it's heavy

  • @slevels1 its your boy Jerry Garcia man

  • @slevels1 its jefferson airplane sample "today"

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 3rd version of this? I know this is the original and I could have sworn there were 2 versions of the video with different beats.

  • best line in the song..."so what's up with your mother does she looks as good as you? i'm playin"-classic

  • Thanks for uploading this. This album version was soooo much better than the video version

  • I agree 100%

  • Rap classic....The whole record....A deffinate must have....

  • I agree...one of my favorite underground type rap albums.

  • def. classic

  • Thank YOU!!!!

I've been looking for this for quite a while <3

My recorded tape is officially 14 years old.

    WOW.

    I love this fucking song!!

  • silky smooth beats. superflous

  • Step back in the joint...

  • weird how tom scott's "today" became two very different rap songs...

  • though this one was sampled from the jefferson airplane version

  • This song samples Jefferson Airplane's version of "Today"

  • yes, so ive been told. still, it's the same song.

  • ish

  • ish?

  • like kind of, the two versions arent really the same song, other than the intro

  • They also sampled Ramsey Lewis "Les Fleur", Mahavishnu Orchestra's You Know, You Know, Allen Toussaint "Louie" and Three Dog Night's " I Can Hear You Calling".

  • @theZodiacDigital yep....it happens more than you think. there are a lot of songs that were sampled by multiple producers. a good example is "nautilus" by bob james. Its been flipped several different ways by several different producers.

  • @theZodiacDigital I'm 99 percent sure that's actually the guitar from the original Jefferson Airplane recording of "Today" from Surrealistic Pillow. Either way, paired with the barking dogs, it's equally haunting. Genius sample.

  • @dkopf yeah it is the the guitar from the original Jefferson Airplane. its haunting indeed

  • @theZodiacDigital Both of which are at the cornerstone of hiphop.

  • @theZodiacDigital Wrong. The sample you hear is from the original "Today" song by Jefferson Airplane, not Tom Scott's cover version.

  • @tolldoll100 that's been mentioned only 50 times since i said this 2 years ago. okay, different versions of the same song. let it go.

  • That is correct. Tom Scott's "Today" is the sample source for Pete Rock and CL Smooth's "T.R.O.Y.". The original Jefferson Airplane version was used for Similak Child. And, just as good as that sample is the piano riff from Ramsey Lewis' "Les Fleur".

  • @theZodiacDigital not just any two rap songs, two iconic hip hop songs

  • @theZodiacDigital good thing u kno that?because the boondocks?

  • @theZodiacDigital this was actually a jefferson airplane sample

  • This track definitely rates on my all-time top five hip-hop songs ever produced. Stellar album.

  • One of my favarite song on this ablum
