  • snare??

  • @willingtotry a Pearl brass piccolo...13 inches (other details in profile). Thanks for watching!

  • @wildbill1240 sounds awesome brother. i'm using a 14x5.5 ludwig supraphonic (1973) with diecast hoops. i really want the tama hammered bronze snare.

  • @willingtotry Nice. That Ludwig is a classic alright. Must be a beauty to play. and yes, the Tama bronze would be awesome, too. So many good choice out there!

  • @wildbill1240 That $2700.00 Sonor Artist bronze snare is incredible.

  • @willingtotry Ha, yes...it would be a nice addition to the collection but there are other things on the shopping list right now...haha.

  • @wildbill1240 haha, definitely. I just recently bought 2 new crashes. 18" sabian hhx legacy and a 20" hhx legacy ride(as crash). sounding sweet.

  • @willingtotry Nice! Those must sound really sweet! You'll have to post a video if you can....

  • @wildbill1240 Will soon man.

  • @willingtotry cool, I'll subscribe and wait for it!

  • "this songs lyrics are fringing on blasphemous. do not play with fire by internalizing them" shut the fuck up this song is genius you jesus loving bastard

  • @Sbag129 I didn't say the music wasn't genius because it is. I said the lyrics are blasphemous because they are. But thank you for watching and considering it all!

  • Maybe I'm just being a little too reactive to the disclaimer. This guy claims "ideas can have consequences", and uses it as a warning. I couldn't disagree more. People should internalize multiple ideas and ultimately weigh out on their own what is best -- not hide from or ignore other points of view because they may be "dangerous" to consider.

  • @spasticpuma Hmmm, you might have missed the point. I certainly encourage critical thinking. Such is the nature of the video info if you care to read my comments and responses. No hiding or ignoring...just confronting. The warning is not to be ignorant of messages that are being fed to listeners. Sorry if I wasn't clear!

  • SWEET STROBELIGHT MAN. GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THEM

  • @urbanfolklore haha, yes you do. It makes playing drums feel like you're on a stage!

  • one of youtubes most usefull uploads....cheers!!!

  • @wolfizwatchin That's quite a compliment! Thank you very much!

  • I love that HH part! Just on my drum lesson i figured out this part and can nail it on 80 BPM! Awesome stuff!

  • @wendepic Good for you. Keep it up. It's fun stuff!

  • "*WARNING* - this song's lyrics are fringing on blasphemous. Please be aware and do not play with fire by internalizing them."

I don't understand the problem here.

  • @spasticpuma The video description contains some more detail, but in reality if Jesus is who he claimed to be, then we have a problem with these lyrics :)

  • THANK YOU ;) GREETINGS!! THIS PART IS VERY DIFFICULT

  • @koke666im You are welcome! Good luck getting it. I'm sure you will!

  • Chris Adler and many other metal drummers should take note. The high hats can actually open up and you dont always have to overplay your double bass pedals to sound good.

  • @BASSxACE haha, very good point! I laughed at this comment.

  • interesting vid i like how you improv other parts or the song but nail the difficult part.

as far as lyrics i respect and leave you to your views ,as for me i dont find them offensive at all if its one thing i know bout tool and maynard in particular is ththe hope that the audience puts their own thoughts and ideas into the meaning of the song (what deos it mean to you) to me personnally i dont see jesus anywhere in this song iknow the cross ref. but that just seeem to dirrect for tool

  • @johnditmo Thanks a lot. I'm glad you liked my playing and respect my views on the lyrics. I appreciate your considerate remarks. Take care.

  • Thank you for taking the time to be a thoughtful Christian who is in the world but not of it. If more people woke up and used their heads like you this world would be a much more peaceful place. Too often do people get into the habit of thinking in one dimension; especially when it comes to music. Regardless of the artists intents while writing a song, Maynard himself says that they want their fans to interpret their music with their own minds. That's why they never have lyrics with the CDs.

  • @Seraephus You are very welcome. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate the feedback. God Bless you.

  • How many Tool cover bands have you ever seen? ................... Me neither lol.

What i love about Danny's work is how technical it is. Drumming is not all about speed but more about what you can create with your drums and your mind.

Great work on the Vid by the way. THUMBS UP.

  • @cenzodee thank you very much. I appreciate that. I'm glad you liked it. Great point about the cover bands by the way...

  • @wildbill1240 Jesus Christ on a Cross this is a good video. It's always nice to watch someone play drums who doesnt suck. I suggest you watch matter311's cover of Schism. It's very good.

    You're a good drummer dude!

    ProjectCarTV

  • @ProjectCarTV Thanks so much. I was encouraged by this comment. I'm glad you liked my playing.

  • This video has helped me tremendously! 2 days and a lot of frustration and now i can nail it at 45 bpms! ha! thank you much, keep em comin. p.s. you got mad skills!! p.p.s. that's gotta feel slightly sacrilegious listening to this song (and many other tool songs) being a stouthearted soldier of christ eh?

  • @motown358 Excellent. I'm glad it helped. You are quite welcome. I appreciate the comment. And as for my personal disposition on the lyrical content of this song, I think you will find the video info quite full of my opinion...

  • this is fucking impressive, i don't care who you are. the fact that you were able to learn the poly rhythm is a true testament to your skill. as an aspiring drummer myself, i'm more than impressed you were able to grasp a danny carey song.

  • @329jgolf Well thank you very much. I'm glad you recognize the difficulty of this song but inventing it is certainly the harder part to playing it. Good luck as you learn!

  • Love it bro, thanks for that, took a good practice session to even begin to understand it, but well worth it

    Peace and love

  • @standingoneawall You are quite welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Take care!

  • This is a sick video, good job. However i have a question regarding the intro drum parts. Danny Carey plays this roto tom beat as well as the "maraca" hi hat count over top of it and he plays it live and no other drum cover video on here does that, can you play it? If so please make a tutorial for the beginning! Thanks man!

  • @AesirThor84 Thanks a lot. I'm glad you liked it. Yes, he does have a rototom part in the beginning that he plays on his electronic pads. I'll certainly add it to my list of videos to make but currently life has me doing things that take me away from the drums and the studio. Thanks for watching this though. Take care.

  • Great job, man.

  • @jmfpercussion Thank you much!

  • What the hell is a troll? If it is a person who hates on you chops...Let's give them a month just to get four measures of this song down, then see who's hating.

  • @rickitickidicki haha, good point!

  • BEST LICK EVER!!! Haha, I was talking to my instructor once, and he was like, "Yeah, you know, that lick from Eulogy" and proceeded to throw down on this. I HAD to learn it! Really fun piece to play. Try leaving out the 16th note that is doubled by the "chick" of the closing high-hat. Makes it a lil more interesting to think about ;) Anyway, great job tackling a part by one of drummings greats!

  • @Percussionoholic Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed my attempt at it. There's still nothing like the feel that Danny adds to it...

  • BLARG!! Every time I listen to this song and it gets to that passage with that rhythm, I just shake my head in amazement. Even more impressive: you pulled it off! Great going, man! :D

  • @NickolaiVolkov Thank you very much! It took a lot of practice, and I can't even touch the rest of the song!

  • @wildbill1240 You did plenty good enough from what you showed in this video, IMO :) The important thing is that you're quite good at what you were playing.

  • @DavidPartay Well, thanks. I'm glad you think so. I appreciate you stopping by and taking the time to say so! Take care.

  • @wildbill1240 It's weird, I can play the whole song EXCEPT that part!

  • @alpur214 me too kinda makes me feel lame when i have to leave the hats closed during that part

  • Damn love the snare sound

  • arghh fuck yeah man youre a legend i've always wanted to know how to play that beat. ill give it a try

  • @Leesbo1 Thanks, good luck with it!

  • some of your vids make me thing you are christian. are You? don't you feel bad when you play eulogy?

  • @karburo Yes, I am a Christian. I appreciate you noticing the seeming disparity between this videos and my others. I actually posted an explanation about this in my video description. Perhaps you will check it out? Thanks! Bill

  • I still have that issue

  • I'm propably wrong here, but it sounds a bit like he's beating 4/4 on drums and 3/4 on cymbals... pause by the end evens the difference. Sounds absolutely brilliant.

  • fuk'n awesome bro fuk the haterz u did great!

  • @clackfirst Thank you. I'm glad you think so! Take care, friend.

  • you play the beginning wrong, it's a poly rhythm not a shit beat.

  • orgasm snare :D

  • Very nice Wildbill

As a fellow (or has been) drummer. This ricked to see you do a great job on my favorite band

  • @Gestankfaust Thank you very much. I really appreciate your kind words (and thanks for dealing with the troll, I appreciate that, too!).

  • @wildbill1240 ive noticed danny plays this type of thing a ton, a triplet feel with a 4/4 beat underneath. i'm having a terrible time getting it, any tips ? thanks so much bro, but the feet just wont do what the brain wants em to!!!

  • @sparkles67 Practise practise practise...! Get used to playing different 3 against 4 patterns with any combination of hands or feet. A good one to get used to the sound of it is to play straight quarter notes on the bassdrum, and play 16th notes against it with both hands accenting every 3rd hit. Once you have a feeling for the 'sound' of the pattern, it'll make it easier to translate to other patterns.

  • @sparkles67 practice and play each part by itself just so you get the feel then play together slow while counting the 4 on the snare/bass and feel the 16th on the hat then just pay attention to where 3 is on the hats but dont worry bout openin then until you get a solid feel for it and open them there i know that sound like alot but its not really its just a simple 4/4 beat dont let the "odd time sig." throw you odd time DOES NOT mean you change how you play just how you count goodluck

  • @sparkles67 I know...it's tricky. Just keep trying and don't give up! Remember, slow it down. Add one arm or leg at a time. It'll get in your head and eventually your brain will be obeyed by your limbs :)

  • Very nice. Few people can actually play Danny Carey's style. Kudos.

  • @kismo24 Thanks a lot. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!

  • @A7TX1764 I was just trolling, chill the fuck out.

  • @everyonedoesit2 this is an excuse?

Get a life. Troll people in real life, get punched in the nose...nuff said

  • @Gestankfaust I troll people in real life too!!

  • Comment removed

  • @everyonedoesit2 your actually going to let his faith get in front his talent and the way you see his playing? Such a fucking bigot. Your doing exactly what other religious nuts do and see others faith as a "book cover." good job, your practicing what you criticize...

  • @A7X1764 Thanks so much for chiming in. I appreciate it. Take care!

  • @everyonedoesit2 Thanks for watching man. I'm glad you liked the video. Regarding the other stuff...I'm just interested in truth, but hopefully that doesn't come off extreme! Take care, friend,

    Bill

  • @wildbill1240 As I said in my follow up comment I was just trolling, I wouldn't really sincerely hate you or judge you for your silly views. Mind you, if it's truth you're after you're looking in the wrong place. You're getting nothing but lies and manipulation :-)

  • @everyonedoesit2

Get over yourself....you have NO idea if Jesus existed. The facts are there that he did. Whether that means messiah or not is up to the individual.

You just come off as ignorant...like most

  • @Gestankfaust The facts are there that he did? Please point me in the direction of those facts. There are NUMEROUS well documented historians who were around at the time, and none of them mentioned him. You would have thought the son of god was pretty big news - as a matter of fact the only "reliable" historical proof jesus existed was discovered to be a christian forgery a few hundred years ago.

  • you suck

  • The start is wrong dude. It goes, high-hat and bass drum, snare, high-hat, snare,high-hat and bass drum and so on. But the rest was alright.

  • youre awesome..!

  • It's good to see someone who can actually play posting videos. Also, I love how your snare is tuned.

  • @teemschmikk haha, there are a lot of junk videos on youtube. I'm surprised they have the server space for it. Thanks for the compliment. It's fun to play a piccolo...and easy to tune, just crank it tight!

  • If Danny Carey had a drum battle against God. He would win by a slight margin. He would play just good enough to beat GOD. And god would destroy everyother drummer on earth. Thats how good danny carey is.

  • @mattbassace Nope. You're wrong. Chuck Norris would win. How silly....

  • @wildbill1240 Chuck NOrris sucks ass Bruce Lee kicked his ass and I'm pretty sure Danny Could Kick his ass

  • WAY LAMI

  • dude a lot of session drummers (who are really good because they can play a lot of different styles of drumming) can do rhythms like that

  • your snare its too loud

  • nice one, what a great rhythm!

  • @jp3design thanks, glad you liked it!

  • Me again, hey, please record some Tool covers. I love seeing people playing drums (as I would love to do that myself but can't afford a kit and don't have space to place one here).

  • @Dexterprog Yeah, that's sort of my problem. I'm living in an apartment now and my drums couldn't come with me...so we're in the same boat. Maybe one day... sorry!

  • Close but no cigar. Good effort though wildbill1240

  • Fucking Christ! how the hell did all the religious bickering get on here? shut the fuck up and just watch this dude tear it up on the drums.

  • @nuggz503 ummm...started by a religious hater....so yea

  • Great video, how do u record your drums?

  • @ricardoieci Thank you. I'm glad you liked it. I record with mics and pro tools. All in the box....

  • @wildbill1240 With mics!

  • @bagoada I know...master of the obvious, right?! I have the specifics about which mics in my profile if you care to see...

  • "@Boxcutter7 If you're teaching kids that there is no god or transcendent truth, you are imposing your own ethical/value system on them, therefore indoctrinating them with your worldview, which has arguably contributed to more hopelessness, despair and violence than any other in human history. I'm just saying you don't have any basis on which to claim what is right and wrong apart from God"

Oh my. And before this I thought you were a Christian with reason. How wrong I was.

  • @ultramegax

Nice drumming though. Enjoyed the video.

  • @ultramegax Hello friend, thank you for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Would you be able to tell me why you thought my answer to Boxcutter7 lacked reason? Thanks!

  • Hey Bill! Just been watching some of your vids again. I forgot what an incredible drummer you are!

  • @janken919 Hey Ken, hard to believe I posted this almost 3 years ago, huh? Man time flies. Your comments are making me wish I had a drum set and a video camera in front of me right now. Thank you very much for that reminder!

  • @wildbill1240 Sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

  • take snares of nao!

  • your kit sounds like god's instrument, except for your snare.

  • @MicahandFriends God's instrument? haha, that's the first I've heard of that...but that's pretty funny. Thanks. The snare should be improved in more recent videos. This one was one of the first few I ever posted. Take care.

  • I think you wrote one to many open hi-hat notes in your drum tabs. it doesn't make sense to play 2 open hi-hats at the end of the lick and then into the beginning again. but i got the point. thats awesome

  • @jonphillips10 The pattern I wrote in there is the first measure...I assumed people would know to write it out further but since they didn't know I posted a link in the description that is fully written out. I hope that helps!

  • i love the sounds of your drums, and im glad to also own Yamaha drums, but could you please do a video showing the difference between with and without mics?

  • @ToOlOGT22 Thank you. Yamaha does make a good product. Yes, I have a video already recorded showing you the difference of my drums with mics, EQ, compression and without. If you're subscribed you'll eventually see it (maybe in a few months!)

  • @wildbill1240 ahh sweet, can't wait for it. i will subscribe, i dont know why i havent already, but just make sure you post that video because it will be very helpful to some people

  • @ToOlOGT22 cool, don't worry, it's on my list of top 3 videos to finish because believe me, you are not the first person to request such a video!

  • @wildbill1240 Hey man, wonder if you have some advice for me. I cannot get the coordination down on the eulogy beat. Going slower doesn't help. I have tried only hitting single kick beats, tried it with only the hi hat and the snare, only the hi hat and the kick, and cannot do it. The drum part that is similar to this, right before it I can do. The hi hat is whats messing me up.....help?

BTW - I have no formal drum lessons, just self taught. I know I can do this, just need more kick-hi hat coord

  • @Glidewell1000 Hello! Well, it sounds like you have tried just about everything, but I'll give you one more thing. I want you to download or buy a click track (metronome). I'm sure there's something on google. Play JUST the hihat part with it. The click should have an accent on beat one. Play the hihat opening it every third note and count with the click track. Notice where the hihat opens in relation to beat "1" every time around. You will start to hear how the pattern repeats.

  • @Glidewell1000 Once you do this long enough, it will just be burned into your brain and the kick/snare part will come along easily. But it's going to take time, especially if you're self taught. People who take lessons often start off with simple beats and count out loud so they have a rigid metronome already going in their heads. You can develop that too, it just may take some time. I hope that helps!

  • I love to play the polyrhythmic beat of this song!! It's gotta be one of my favourite polyrhythms thus far. I find beats where there is a constant opening of the hi-hat i.e. every third stroke, to be quite easy as i've spent a long time practicing and playing parts with constant open hi-hat.

  • Fucking awesome!!!!

  • @KTkillaB thanks, I'm glad you think so.

  • excellent stuff man! your drumming is off the chain

  • @R4ptor2 thanks a lot! I appreciate it.

  • great stuff man thanks for the info

  • @soundmoneyfan You are welcome. I'm glad you liked it.

  • It is obviously about Jesus, for various reasons. it says you had a lot of nothing to say ( referring to his preachings). also when he says showed us how you werent afraid to die ( he wasnt.) or the part bill plays when it says "you claimed all this time that you would die for me" ( he diedon the cross to save us) Maynard has something against him when he said" atleast you tried". (or something like that). so it is obviosly against jesus.

  • I wanted to learn this, thanx.

  • @UnknownArtistBand you're welcome.

  • @tonyherbs There is a Remo Ambassador on it...no muffling. It has a moon gel on it in my later videos. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

  • where's the congas.. ?

  • @IWillSexU maybe in the next tutorial...

  • i can play that, its really weird, i think i play it a little bit slower than the recording coz the coordination involved is so great, i dont have that coordination, i have to sit there and think it out before i play it but i still get it in the end

  • Hey, great tutorial man, but I dont understand how you've written it out in notation, your first and last 16th note is open on hi hat, which would imply when looped it has a double open at some point, OR that the snare bass pattern continues and the hihat tripplet plays over the top?

  • @Nashokadow Thank you. I'm glad you liked it. If you look in the video description I posted a link to the whole pattern. Yes, it repeats so that it naturally wraps the triplet around and loops every 4 measures. I hope that helps, sorry for taking so long to get back to you.

  • i <3 eulogy :)

  • rest of what videos, numbnut?

you have one upload. it's of an ugly guy in a cheap room playing a bass.

again... when you post a better drumming video than wildbill, let us know.

  • vvhat the holy fuck are you talking about? i like hovv you criticized my room and not my bass playing, not superficial at all :)

  • i'm totally superficial... as is the rest of america.

    what's your point?

you're still saying you uploaded drum videos.

    Ok - where are they?

    (dodge the topic much?)

  • Yeaaaahhh, ok... (I know I'm replying to a year old comment, I felt compelled to skim through comments that had to do with the lyrics) How can you say that it is DEFINITELY not about the Jesus character & say that people that think it is are idiots?? It is open to interpretation, but calling someone an idiot for stating the obvious (that it obviously has some reference to the Jesus the Anointed One character) is unnecessary & pathetic.

  • WOW, ok, I know I'm replying to a year old comment (I just had to skim through comments on here related to the lyrics), but can you please tell me what evidence there is that a man named Jesus, who was also named "the anointed one" (title Christ), died on a cross? Can you also tell me what evidence there is that he resurrected??

  • Well, since you seem to be in the minority opinion on that issue, maybe you should write a paper and clue the whole world in concerning your newfound knowledge.

  • The pagan origins of christianity & judaism are not newfound knowledge. It just seems newfound because the internet is fairly new and allows more information spreading, and even someone living in their christian parents' homes can find the truth. The Talmud & old testament of the bible came after the Levites & Hebrews left Egypt & stole the land of Canaan from the Canaanites (ancestors of Palestinians).

  • @Boxcutter7 Yeah, the internet is fairly new and it allows for a lot more spreading of misinformation, conspiracies and lies. Yes, the Old Testament comes after the Hebrews left Egypt but it covers that entire period of time. And nowhere in the monotheistic interaction of God with His people is there any evidence of pagan influence. Have you read the Old Testament?

  • @wildbill1240 There were no interactions between people and a god - the pagan influence in the bible is of the scripture in the bible. Yes, I've read quite a bit of the old testament & new testament and I used to be a strong believer in christianity. I wouldn't teach my kids from the start that there is no god; I just wouldn't teach them about gods. If they asked questions about gods I would tell them the truth about religions. If they asked me why I don't believe I would tell them.

  • Great drumming. It's too bad you have to spend all kinds of time telling kids to stop being born-again atheists on your comment page!

  • Thanks for the compliment...I know, it's hard to battle the indoctrination of the 21st century.

  • Indoctrination (1 real example) is when you teach kids that if they don't believe in the 1 true god & obey his laws, they will burn forever in hell.

  • And somehow it is not indoctrination to teach your kids that their actions don't have consequences?

  • I'm sure teaching kids that their actions don't have consequences would be indoctrination; I don't know what you're referring to. NOT teaching kids about god & afterlife is the absence of teaching kids something, so it's not indoctrination - plus, it's not teaching that their actions don't have consequences. We don't need the evil threat of hell to be moral. It sounds like you're admitting that people should believe in god & eternal punishment in order to be moral.

  • @Boxcutter7 If you're teaching kids that there is no god or transcendent truth, you are imposing your own ethical/value system on them, therefore indoctrinating them with your worldview, which has arguably contributed to more hopelessness, despair and violence than any other in human history. I'm just saying you don't have any basis on which to claim what is right and wrong apart from God.

  • Good indepedence! How long have you been playing?

  • Thank you! I've been playing for 13 years...took lessons for about 5 years in there...take care!

  • @wildbill1240 how well do you think lessons help. ive only been drumming for a little more than 3 months now and havnt taken lessons. i have trouble hitting any fast notes that go "around the drumset" on the toms

  • Hello, I strongly believe that having lessons or at least practicing the fundamentals of stick control will pay off immensely when you sit down at the whole drum kit. You need to have a good grip, good finger bounce, controlled and dynamic strokes before you can accurately go around the toms. Start off on the snare drum for a few months and practice rudiments. You'll be very surprised how easy the drum set is after you develop those basics. It's boring but it's the best way!

  • @wildbill1240 i could probly learn the snare drum stuff just online. but with the overall set i think im definately going to take lessons then. tyvm for your opinion. also howcome my toms when i hit them they seem to sort of hold the note. like i hit it and the sound keeps going for longer then id like. i want mine to sound like yours. do i need to tighten toms?

  • You're quite welcome. Yeah, youtube is good for learning different tricks but there's no substitute for a teacher who can identify your mistakes before you start forming bad habits. That's sort of funny that you ask about my toms. I'm actually putting together a video about how I tune them right now (hint..subscribe!). But in short: clear Evans heads, tune them tight till they ring and then put a moongel on them to dampen the ring...if you want. Put more on if you need...stand by for video!

  • lol you trying to say this song is not about Jesus, I can not think of a more overtly anti-Christ song and you will bill are promoting it, I'm not saying take it down, do what you want, but call a spade a spade, no man can serve two masters and one that thinks he can will serve only Satan

  • Hmm, did you watch to the end or read the description to the right? I'm not sure how you got that idea.

  • @jonutarr Indeed, it's much easier to just serve satan and cut out the middle man.

  • Why would god create a being that is also omniscient/omnipresent, that is tempting everyone everywhere at once? Every culture, every generation, just about every religion has an enemy figure. In Egyptian mythology, the god that most influenced the character Jesus, Horus (sun god), had the enemy Set - would conquer Set each morning, defeated at night, going UNDER[the]WORLD before resurrecting; was said to be with his father in the temple at noon (like Jesus at 12) when he was "most high".

  • Jesus was not influenced by Horus. EVERYTHING we know about Jesus indicates that he claimed to be the fulfillment of the Hebrew scriptures...from the Abrahamic faith - which predates all of those copycat/mythological figures you refer to. The Israelite people were unique and predominant in the ancient near east. If ANYTHING, the other mythological figures were copied off of their faith.

  • I love the sound of your toms and snare, and all the rest of your stuff, except not yuor bass drum. I don't know why. Maybe it sounds a little too....fluffy?

    great playing great explanation 5/5

  • Thank you for the feedback. I agree, the bass drum sounds clicky in this video. It was one of my first videos but I like the way it sounds in my Lateralus tutorial. Perhaps you will agree.

  • I can imgaine this looks alot easier than it is.

  • Ha, yes. It can be a little bit of a brain twister at first but it makes sense once you practice it into your second nature.
