  • Mets now have a solid bullpen with Igarashi and Takahashi Hisanori. Look for Igarashi to close if it hits the fan with Frankie Rodriguez.

  • I was at the Mets practice yesterday Ryota said that the sems on th MLB ball are diffrent than in Japan

  • This guy has Anthony Young written all over himself. He'll turn Citi into a launching pad...

  • you got that from this video of him striking out 3 did you?

  • Striking out what - 3 chumps? Pitchers & catchers today in P.S.L.; he'll have an ERA of 7.00 before the Mets get north of Georgia. Typical delusional "Mess" fan...

  • He has a little thing going..nice sinker/split..hopefully he can give us a start like jaba had with the yanks.

  • I hate the fact that the mets talk but never does anything. i want that player we need that player we're planning to get that player. what happens? NOTHING. it annoys me that they have not done anything but talk. We need a new GM minaya is no good for the mets anymore. Enough of the "Prospects" that we NEVER see and start getting players TODAY.

  • great commentary. tahaahaaaa lets go mets! hopefully this kid can do this for our team in 2010.

  • It's not a dream for the Mets to get Bay. They have made the most serious offer. They are still negotiating as I type this, so it's more than a dream.

  • This guy is gonna get his tits lit up in NY

  • Good pick up for the Mets. The Mets have always had good interests in Asian baseball. From Takeshi Kashiwada to Masato Yoshii to Jae Weong Seo and also bad ones from Tyoshi Shinjo to Kaz Matsuii. Best of luck 2010 season NY Mets! NYC is a NL TOWN!!!!!!!

  • Nice Split!!

  • hope he does good for the mets

  • That was Larry Bigbie he struck out for out number 2. Didn't know where he went after MLB. Got my answer here.

  • This kid has a split that the bottom falls out of. Nasty stuff.

  • no offense behind him? He's a reliever, idiot. He just needs to put up a zero for one inning. He's not a starter. Get a clue

  • The Mets are not competing for 4th place. They are still a playoff competitor when healthy. Add this guy, Bay, and a couple of other pieces and you've got a really competitive ballclub. Bounce back year for the Mets.

  • The mets will never get bay so keep dreaming

  • Just like the Mets would never get Beltran or Santana?

  • are you dumb do you know how many teams would do to get bay mets are only offering bay 6.5m to go on there other teams offer like 10m to 15m stop talking you dont know what your talking about

  • Mets have offered the largest contract confirmed to have been offered. 4 years and $65 million. That's an average of $16.25 million per season.

  • you are just dumb. 4 years between 60-65 mill is not 6.5 a season. Not only are you misinformed, but your math sucks! T00m24, you must be a Phillies fan (that would at least explain the lack of intellect)

  • Bay's contract is back-loaded, he gets 6.5 this season or something like that and then he'll get 16-17 mill the next 3 seasons.

  • who's gonna sign Bay? Who? Sox, Yanks, Dodgers, M's, not interested. Who has more money to spend on Bay than the Mets?

  • The mets got bay jackass

  • Yeah, I know - JACKASS. And that has what to do with this clown? What''s your fucking point, retard...? Is Bay going to pitch in the late innings, too?

  • he sign with the Mets.

  • He's on the best team ever the METS!

  • He's on a team thats competing against the Nationals for 4th place Hahaha .And the Mets aren't the best team .

  • The Mets are only competing with the nationals if their whole team is out injured, which I wouldn't count on happening again. Remember the Mets were picked by many to win the world series last season and they were in first place even with Reyes, Delgado and many others out injured. They didn't lose first place until Beltran got hurt as well.

  • hes going to get lit up in the majors especially with no offense behind him

  • And if Larry Bigbie ever returns from Japan this guy owns him, like his breaking stuff, i think Albert Pujols is gonna drill that flat fastball off Masto Yoshi's nose while he is pitching to the wiffle ball kids in Centerfield. Bring back Takashi Shinjo and lets acquire one of those Pirates guys from India too!!!

  • What's not to like about him? Throws hard... Deceptive motion... Unknown to MLB hitters. He's a reliever too which will keep him underexposed. Unless the Mets sign him and overuse him like they do all their relievers...

  • HE TIPS HIS PITCHES!!!! He blows or sticks his tongue out when he throws the splitter or the change BUT he does nothing with his mouth when it is the fastball..Good job checking this guy out Omar!

  • You should star in The Scout 2

  • Love what i see from this guy pitches look nasty and he throws hard..looks very good as the set up guy for k rod with the mets

  • Welcome to New York, Rashy!

  • Comment removed

  • After watching this video to see what stuff this guy has, I'm glad the Mets signed him!

  • Nice, he can be like the 8th innning dude for the red sox

  • I pray to God that this guy will be a good setup man for the Mets for years to come. Wish him the best here in New York.

  • looks like he has a plus fastball and really good life on his off speed pitches...i feel he will be like a huston street type guy...i feel good about this signing for the mets

  • he looks good, i like the changeup/splitter whatever it was, he used it effectively to counteract his fastball

  • The New York Mets signed Ryota Igarashi to a 2year contract worth around $2 million and will be a set up for man K-Rod replacing 32 year old J.J putz who signed with the White Sox. Ryota, (30 years old) has a career record of 44 wins -27losses

a 3.26 ERA and 51 saves. BY THE WAY...HOW FAST DOES THIS GUY THROW? I HERD HE TOPS 98MPH.

  • @chichiqueelote this is incorrect. Nobody has signed him as of right now.

  • Wow now I'm not the only one who looks at You Tube to find out about these Japanese pitchers .

  • Usually, pitchers with control problems in the minors are sent to the bullpen, (among other reasons: such as lack of solid secondary offerings/change-up), so control isn't exactly the most important attribute, more or less if you have good stuff, you'll be at least decent to below average. Useless is such a strong word.

  • Maybe "useless" is a bit strong, but expecting him to be much more that a low-leverage middle man is unrealistic. In today's game, no one wants to turn to a reliever with a walk rate that high.

  • Let me name drop for a second: Carlos Marmol. Heard of him? Last year he had 65 walks in 70-something innings. Do you think of him as a low-leverage middle man? Or was he the Cubs closer, and considered on of the better relievers of the 2008-2009 seasons? If he can get strikeouts, keep guys off balance. Yes, walks do kill you, but not as much for a reliever than a starter.

  • As a stater, walks contribute to your pitch count, and since you're needed for more than one inning, it hurts the team and the starter. But then again, Yovani Gallardo and Clayton Kershaw were at the top of the walks category as well. As was AJ Burnett. Those 3 guys can get the strikeouts needed to balance off the walks, unlike Doug Davis, the MLB league leader in walks with 103. Walk rates are much different in perspective for a starter than a reliever. \

  • If a reliever has the stuff, and the mindset, he'll get the job done.

  • Carlos Marmol? The same Marmol that the Cubs woul not commit to Marmol as their closer (hence Kevin Gregg) for some reason. His K rate has dropped in 3 straight seasons and eventually the BB will catch up to him. His HR/FB was extremely abnormal, and he has turned into a flyball/strikeout pitcher. Just wait until a few more of those flies end up in the seats (2009 xFIP 4.67). Yeah that's just great.

  • Fuckin' character count.

  • I can't really see the Rays bringing him in, to be honest. He is going to probably fall a bit out of their price range. He can make good money in NPB, and will probably have to take a pay cut to play here. Still, I think Boston, who had bullpen issues last year, will pursue him actively and ultimately win out due to the strong Japanese prescence on the tean.

  • Hopefuly the Rays will bring him in and let him and Howell duke it out in spring training.

  • With the season Igarashi is having, he's bound to get some big money on the free agent market. I can't see him staying with Yakult beyond this year. It's sad too, the Swallows finally have a contending team again, their best since the 2001 Japan Series-winning team. Despite their good core, its either win this year, or risk losing more of their core like they did after 2006 when they lost both Alex Ramirez and Seth Greisinger. If they had both of them, Yakult would be dominating the CL.
