  • im probably gonna buy a 1TB time capsule and use it as a hardrive and router besides i need a new router anyway

  • You can also print through time capsule and use it as a router

  • I have a 1TB Time Capsule.

  • Do you think I can send files from a PC to the Time Cap. HD since PCs don't have Time Machine? I'm gonna have 2 iMacs and one Pc in the summer..

  • Yes you can use the Time Capsule as normal network drive and access it from either Mac and PC. You can set up windows filesharing in the settings of the Time Capsule. It works really great!!

  • How can I do this?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, and I mean that 'cos I don't wanna sound like an ass, and I love macs, but isn't the Time Capsule a glorified External Hard drive that is wireless?

The wireless thing is very innovative but other than that, it doesn't seem that amazing.

  • EDIT:- Having said that I do kinda want one :P

  • not really.

For one it's also a darft-n enabled router and one of the few capable of transmission on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz(unfortunately not simultaneously)

But that's all available on the Airport Express. This is an airport express with an inbuilt harddisk. It's a bit more than that actually which is why there are some problems using time machine on a NAS with the airport express.

So in other words, not an external harddrive it's a NAS with inbuilt storage

  • oops, meant airport extreme, but otherwise everything is the same

  • I tried to build such a service myself with a lacie networkdrive that supports appletalk and a N router. It kinda worked with my macbook pro and the iBook g4 here but is wasn't perfect. Now I have a new macbook to supplement the g4 usage so I have 2 leopard machines. I NEED TIME CAPSULE!!!!. i'll just sell my belkin N router then. If this works as advertized it will be a winner.

  • what is the song in begining.

  • How do I password protect the external hard drive of the time capsule?

  • Airport Utility on a mac.

  • If I got a laptop to go with my iMac id definitely get time capsule as I have tonnes of music on an external hard drive which I could have access to all over the house. Brilliant.

I'm also thinking of getting a Mac Mini as a media center which would work with this too. I don't like that you can't watch your avi's through apple TV so Mac mini is the way to go. More expensive but with wireless mouse and keyboard and the mini hooked to the HDTV. Just a dream at the mo though lol.

  • Depends where you live and how far away you are from the exchange, Be also do 24meg ADSL, but you need to be close to a LLU exchange. I personally think 50mb and 100mb are crazy speeds. I mean yeah its a nice thing to have but theres fuck all servers that will let you download that fast. Even Microsoft with all their billions wont let you download at 100megabits (12.5megabytes/sec). And most websites, you wont notice any difference beween 2meg and 100meg).

  • Still waiting for AT&T to roll out U-Verse in my area... I only get 1.3 Mbps :(. But its not AT&T's fault its the dam city (Dana Point, CA) not permitting them to put in all their stuff. Other cities around here are doing the same (ie Laguna Beach) PIsses me off. So the fastest connection we have is suxy ass cox cable and no Fiber. Newport has U-Verse and theyve been buying it left and right

  • I thought some tying like the time capsule already existed?

  • yup : NAS + Wireless Router 802.11 n + 3 Gigabit Ports for LAN (Lan for incomming WAN)

But none is like the Apple's one

The 500GB is ok in price and the 1TB is really good considering that an Airport Extreme + 1 External USB 1TBHDD will cost more than Time Capsule 1TB

  • err :

    "LAN (Lan for incomming WAN)"

    =>

LAN (*1 Port* for incomming WAN)

  • 7 Mbps broadband, that is terrible. All I have to say is I'm sorry. Here in the U.S. 100 mbps is standard nearly everywhere.

  • actually wireless routers is 56mbps

  • 5454mbps mate

  • yeah but Wireless N is becoming the standard now, most business and hotspots are now starting to order them, the benefit from that is that it's 5x faster than Wireless G, which is 54MBPS and btw, N also has 2x the range

  • Virgin are trialing 50 and 100mbps soon in the UK.

  • oh really ,lol. there higest at the moment is 20MB and i thinkin of gettin that. is virgin any good ??

  • As I write this, I'm sat in the middle of my room floor (desk awaiting delivery), laptop and external hd out backing up manually ... and I have been for *hours* now preparing for a full windows reinstall. I'm aiming for a Macbook after payday, and I cannot *wait* to get Time Capsule sorted for it. The only reason I'm in this mess of making huge backups now is cos I could never be a*sed dragging out the external, the cables, the blaaaaah to back up more regularly.

    Roll on payday!!

  • first comment!!!!!

  • I think itis a great product, butif you already have a base station I dont see the advantage

  • Don't you think it's a little pricey?

  • I really like the Time Capsule, i am going to pre-order it tomorrow and put my base station and current 320gb HD on eBay :) Good video Adrian
